[grammar pedant]Which particular teacher has powers?[/grammar pedant]
News this week.
I would be interested to hear from the teachers here as to whether they think this is going to make an important difference.

I just read "Eats Shoots and Leaves" which has possibly improved my fairly poor punctuation. I feel grammar and punctuation are more important than ever in this digital age where the written word is king.
My favourite quote from that book :
"Nigger's out" seen scrawled into a wall in New York was rendered impotent by the addition of "but he'll be back shortly"
"Post association" - rules of play
Each post must relate to the previous one, either directly or indirectly, in an obvious manner. Posters of non-linked messages will be "out".
There is no need to maintain the topic of the first post.
Repetition is forbidden and its poster is "out".
The thread should resemble a collective stream of consciousness triggered by the reading of the previous post.
Winner of the game: the last remaining forumite who has not yet been excluded by contravening any of the rules above.
Sorry - my own brand of rubbish sarcasm. Funny though how the two posts subsequent to the first manage to derail instantly!
As for me, the Government might now have caved a bit under some pressure, but I don't think these new "powers" are going to improve things. Teachers will still be afraid to use them, unless they are about to witness someone being seriously hurt, when I'd like to think most people would step in with "appropriate force". Inevitably there'll be high-profile cases coming up where parents of restrained bullies (or otherwise) challenge the teacher's decision to use restraint at all and judges end up overturning the law anyway.
Hmmm... Do I detect the faint smell of bitter cynic?
