Ok people i am wanting to get some money changed back from euros to pounds! Where is the best place to go that i wont get charged a fortune and has a good rate?
thanks
your bank probably
if you find yourself needing euros a lot - open a nationwide account and withdraw money from a bank machine in the EURO country - it doesnt cost anything and you can then only withdraw what you need with no extra sums left over that you need to convert back to pounds
I'm not sure that the exchange rates vary that much from place to place, and if you're talking about the amount of money the average person takes with them for spending on holiday, then the cash difference between banks, travel agents and the post office is likely to be measured in pence anyway. There might be a case for just going to whichever is nearest and has the shortest queue.
Doesn't the post office exchange for free?
I get my currency exchanged at Thomas cook before I go - and then if I need to get any changed back they do it for free.
Free currency exchange is widely available - it's the exchange rates you have to watch.
I've just got back from overseas and the bank was pretty good in both exchange rate and commission (as in, none). They change it back and put it straight into your account too.
Most shops in hastings take the Euro. Lots of things are marked up in £'s and euros (except my keyboard!! ) Prob something to do with the amount of students we have in the town.
If it's not a lot of money (say less than £50) and you're likely to go away again in the next 12 months, just hang onto it for next time. The exchange rate is likely to be a bit cr@p and you'll lose a bit on it.
If you buy it from the right place in the first place, they will charge you commission on the exchange, but exchange it back free of charge if you go in with the receipt. Thomas Cook do this, and I think the Post Office and some of the banks.
Are you planning on going to Blaze / SP, how much do you have and can you wait until then?
I'll buy them from you at the official rate on that day (i.e. better than bank rates both for you and me) if you want, I always need euros.
Go and spend them in M&S as they accept euros
i was working out in spain this weekend teaching and got paid in euros so i havent withdrawn or exchanged previous to now. I have a nationwide account which helps with the withdrawl but not the deposit.
does the post office have a lower buy back rate? than others as has been suggested by a friend?
you could always open a euro account in N.I. and use the money when you are in a euro country - which isnt too bad for you as you can easily walk to one. Long walk mind
If you're ever in central London these guys are the best. Much better than High St. banks, Post Office, American Express. Offices in Victoria and the Strand.
