Are hats good or bad for dancing - do they affect your dancing?

What about the Bandana Option? Cool? Naff beyond words?

    Inquiring minds want to know...

AFAIC, if you're going to wear any kind of clothing that makes you stand out, you better be a great dancer or just not give a toss what people think.
If you're an average or poor dancer in a crowded room, no-one will really notice. Put a big hat on and everyone will notice how bad you are.

says Gav, dressed all in black, hiding in the shadows.

Oh, and I've never seen anyone that looks good in a bandana.

    Re: Let's talk about hats

My sig used to be ' Don't touch the hat!' I brought one of my hats out of retirement at the weekend. I got lots of compliments about it. I used to wear them all the time for dancing but stopped when someone told me I looked like a lesbian! I've come to realise that this was just one persons opinion and it seems that more people were of the opinion it looked good. (Could be cos it covers some of my face though )
So my 'lesbian look' may be making the occasional come back.

IMO...Men wearing hats when dancing look bloody stupid.

On further investigation, I suspect you are right DJ about it being the folically challenged ones that wear them.

    YOU'RE A SLAP HEAD....GET OVER IT.....!

Wrong. Roger (don't know his surname) looks great in a Bandana.

No, I've definitely never seen anyone that looks good in a bandana, no matter what their name is. Maybe I've just never seen Roger

If I changed my name*, would I look good in a bandana?

I know have a terrible image of Mr Long wearing a bandana.

*OK, and my face. And my body. And learnt to dance. Apart from that...

I believe he is called Roger Bandana-Man. The wonders of deed-poll.

I don't mind what people wear on the dancefloo though wouldn't ever wear a hat myself. Headwear does sometimes interfere with a lead though in my experience. I find Jamie easier to lead without his hat than when he thinks he's John Wayne for instance.

Hats are great, and always have been. This opinion has nothing at all to do with my rapidly-receeding hairline. Honest.

They don't have an effect on your dancing, other than to provide a prop to play with if you feel like it. Oh - and to make you hotter. And to make some moves harder to do without risking premature removal of said receeding-hairline-hiding-device [hat] (depending on the type of hat)

Well bearing in mind that a lot of leads seem to take aim at the top of my head anyway, I hate to think what devestation would be caused if I increased my height (which isn’t that great btw) by adding a hat… unless of course I added some nice little spikes to it to train them to lift those arms when returning me!

I think that it goes well with a certain style. Not my style though so you'd never catch me in one

What could this mysterious style be...? I also haven't met Roger but I suspect even he doesn't suit his bandana.

    *Sorry Roger!*

I do, embarrassingly, own a bandana - BUT I feel I can save myself by saying I bought it for some charity thing last year And, I have never worn it. And never will

Since you're abusing your Nightly Moderator Powers™, I'm going to rush to take advantage, and do the Very Not Done Thing of Criticising The Poll

Does 'only bandanas' mean I only like bandanas, I only hate bandanas, or is it something altogether more abstract?

If I wanted to, for example, check every option saying positive things about hats, but specifically say that bandanas were created by the devil, well - I'm not sure it lets me do this.

    Re: Let's talk about hats

There was a chubby bald guy dancing at Stafford last night in a black cowboy hat. He looked a lot like Van Morrison. He was a pretty good dancer, but somehow the hat just made him look a bit desperate for attention. Let your dancing do your talking fella - especially on a regular lesson night. Unlike Dai when she wore a similar hat to Utopia recently Oh man, she looked the business in that! They say 'if you wanna get a head get a hat', but I really do think it depends on the dancer too.

OK I did wear a PVC witty hat at Bromsgrove a while back, but in the knowledge that I looked a complete tw@t, although oddly enough Jamie looked great in it! Is there no end to the lad's talents and abilities

....Jeez...if only it was that simple. I can just picture all the guys that go out on the pull at weekends saying to each other.." nah ! forget that one, she's wearing a hat so she must be a lesbian!!"......So there you go lads, if she's wearing a hat, you've got no chance
