I thought they still did – but I really know *nothing* about motor oil and petrol and what they put in them.

Me neither (but then, Yanks say "me either" - why is that ?). I've spent many (happy, you've got to be joking) hours in the past crawling over and under crappy rust bucket cars, and their smokety tip takekty engines, to try to keep them going another mile or so, than I care to recollect. These days they're far more reliable and rust free, but if problems do arise; forget DIY and go straight to the garage and their spooky digital analyser thingummy whatsits.

I think silicone contains silicon, so they could both be right...

If anyone car is affected by this, you should be able to claim from your car Insurance, under the accidental damage section of comprehensive cover. The Insurers should (!) then attempt a recovery of their losses from the petrol suppliers and you can include your uninsured losses.

    Hope that helps!

I use the D DOORON RON version whenever I can get it.

Even if they do add something to lubricating oil, having it in petrol is a turtley different thing, dudes.

True enough. However, petrol suppliers do introduce other elements into the mixture. What gets me is why it all costs the same...actually, Shell can be cheaper than Tesco (for argument's sake) and yet Shell petrol is better for your engine.

Most modern cars have ECUs that allow them to adjust to the fuel you choose to run it on.

For example, in Japan they have better quality fuel than us in the UK. They are all mapped to use jap fuel by default. If you import them to UK, they adjust themselves to use our 95 RON standard fuel. This loses some power. BUT, if you run them on our super or V-power then they'll be closer to their designed spec so will be quicker.

The same is true for most modern cars - they'll run better with higher RON fuel and just retard the ignition to run on normal unleaded.

Yup it did - even with standard pipes on it it was quite a bit louder than any car I've had before, even with sports exhausts. The new owner has put TVR Super Sports silencers on it (a misnomer if ever I've heard one) so it must sound awesome now, though I've not heard it yet with them on.

    *Car geek mode alert*

This is what it sounded like while I had it.
