    itunes/ipod issues with new pc

    The saga continues

got my new tower now and an Ipod with 800 tracks on.

just downloaded Itunes and of course the library is empty on the pc and it tells me that I cannot put the tracks from my Ipod onto the pc

Is their a solution to this dilemma....

How do I get my music into my Itunes library???

iTunes won't let you do it AFAIK but you could try iPodRip for Windows (there is a MAC version as well)

Is this a Vista thing? I think Vista doesn't work with the current iTunes - you need a special download.

I seem to recall you did a back up from your old pc?

Can you not copy the music across from your back up?

Yep you need to do that - iPods prevent transfer back to PCs to stop people illegally copying music.

You could also use the ripper, but I have no experience of that

I used the mac version for someone to get their music collection back after their PC drive failed. Seemed to work fine.

That would be the best way. Actually you can copy the library information across too and it will restore all the information other than the "created" date IIRC.

To get music off your iPod, I recommend XPlay. It has a free trial.

But as countless other people have said – isn't that what your backup is for?

There's a nice review of how itunes drm works -- that might explain things a bit.
