Great music in films - your favourite?

Rather than musical scores (of which there are many greats) I am more thinking of songs that are so well chosen that they fit a scene perfectly in a film

A couple that stick out in my mind....

Wake Up (Rage Against the Machine) is just spot on at the end of the Matrix <!--emo&Imnotworthy--><!--endemo-->

Into the Deep in Crash is another

Born Slippy at the end of Trainspotting...

    What say everyone else?

    Blackout - Muse in Millions
Spybreak - Propellerheads also in The Matrix
Please Please Please Let Me Get What I Want - The Dream Academy in Ferris Buellers Day Off (Oh Yeah - Yello was pretty good too, and Sigue Sigue Sputnick and infact it was just a brilliamt soiundtrack)

    not forgetting

Stuck in the middle - Stealers wheel in Reservoir Dogs

Wise up - Aimee Mann - used to great effect in Magnolia.
Willing (not sure who by) - in the special edition of The Abyss - the singalong scene.

Terry Gilliam's good at using music in films. I'd nominate several tracks he used in 12 Monkeys , and of course Brazil in Brazil

I LOVE the jazzy piano music at the beginning of Monsters Inc.

Sorry thats not very sophisticated....but I just feel all happy and bouncy every time I hear it.

Not at all DT - if you feel that the music fitted perfectly and it added to the film, then good on ya

You simple could not imagine 2001: A Space Odyssey without either The Blue Danube, and Also sprach Zarathustra.

Interestingly, this film was a bit of a trend-setter in using existing commercial recordings rather than a specially written score, though that was not the original plan.

My favourite is the soundtrack to Young Einstein. Not that good a film, but I liked the music (and it has some good quotes )

Though it has resulted in a bit of a black mark against Kubrick, in that he never credited the (then-living) composer Gyorgy Ligeti for the pieces used in the film. Ligeti almost resorted to legal action to get his money - these soundtrack notes tell the full tale.

The bit where they whistle "Colonel Bogey" in Bridge Over the River Kwai!! Fabulous.... Or the music for the Longest Day when John Wayne is perched on his jeep going up the hill at the end of the film......

I think it's an absolute gem of a movie (#213 in the IMDB top 250 so others agree)

Blue Danube gets me any time any place - but particularly in the cut scene from the Original Italian Job - just the perfect choice
