    Somebody keyed my beautiful car.

Two years ago i brought myself a beautiful Lexus GS300. I have worked hard all my life and was extremely proud of her. This weekend somebody has keyed all down the drivers side a great big scratch. I am inconsolable and feel abused and that i have been personally attacked.

What can be done about this sort of thing.
Do we just have to grin and bare it.
Does anybody have any ideas how to avoid it happening in the first place. How do i get it out, its down to the metal.
    Does insurance cover it.
Has anybody else experienced mindless vandalism to their cars.

    Im sooooooo upset.

I'm sure it can be fixed - unfortunately you will have to pay for it to be done (although you could probably go the insurance route too). Sorry to hear your news - it is upsetting when something like this happens to you.

I can't work out how something like this can give anyone any pleasure - their life must be really bad to start with I would guess, or they just see it that way. It happened to another teacher at my school and she suspected a pupil, but couldn't prove it.

Sorry to hear that Trouble. Yes, worse things could have happened to you but that doesn't mean you'll be any less p*ssed off by such a mindless act. I think what really annoys is that there's nothing gained by the person doing the scratching (unless they know you and it's an act of revenge, I guess) - at least if the car stereo gets nicked you can kind of understand why they've done it.

You probably can claim on insurance but would it hammer your no claims discount and do you have a big excess? May be cheaper to go to one of those man in a van 'scratch out/dent repair' outfits.

It saddens me to hear about your car.. ...in our familiy's lifetime we have had cars stolen, set fire to and wrecked... bumped into, scratched and dented (often in supermarket carparks... whilst I try so hard to be careful myself..) and never had any way of finding out who or why... I kind of hope it was a random thing and not 'personal', that would have freaked me out a lot more..

... last year a great big Lorry backed into my ''baby'' and it was parked on my driveway..!!!! luckily that was seen and reported and dealt with accordingly..

it is very hard and it used to make me cry with frustration each time it happened, and believe me the cars werent even anything special.. just special to me.. Now I just put it down to society today.. it seems unfortunately unavoidable.

Hope you can get something sorted out with your lovely car..

Re: Somebody keyed my beautiful car.

Sorry to hear about your car. I would be absolutely livid if someone touched mine. Although you do have a very nice car - its not the point of what kind of car it is, the point is that someone would do that to another persons possession for no reason other than mindless jealousy. I'm sure you worked really hard to afford it and deserve to have it.

Was it parked anywhere near CCTV when it happened?

Hope you get it fixed and it isn't too costly. I wouldn't go the insurance route - you'll pay for it next year.

Someone keyed mine after I'd had it for 2 years, to vent I think every explicit word was shouted down the phone to a very understanding friend (My mother was first choice but she doesn't like the f-word)
I rang the police to inform them that someone may be going down the road and doing the same to all the cars as is usually the case, got a crime number and asked if I needed victim support that was that no police actually visited the road to check any other cars.
However I was out on duty not so long after in a different area, and someone had keyed 16 cars overnight on the same road, and I then spent the whole day informing owners and searching CCTV, and doing house to house.
If you want your insurance to cover it you may need a crime number, in which case phone the non-emergency line they should be able to give you one or just pop in your police station.
As for stopping it? I doubt it'll happen for some reason some warped people actually enjoy the pointless acts of vandalism
I know people will say worse can happen, but at the time it's frustrating that you can't buy a nice car without the risk of it been vandalised.

Re: Somebody keyed my beautiful car.

Sorry to hear that. As a member of a car club for my car type, I often see a lot of people posting up about their cars getting vandalised like this.

The sad truth is that a lot of people are jealous of us actually having nice cars and feel the need to damage them. I mean you can leave a bog standard Fiesta or Nova in a carpark and it'll be fine. Leave something nice in a carpark and it attracts too much attention, dents and scratches etc. Most people nowadays unfortunately don't respect other peoples property.

A mate of mine has his car keyed all the way down the drivers side. I had a bottle of special Scratch & Swirl Remover which I gave to him as it was heartbreaking seeing the damage. After *much* effort he managed to get rid of most of it.

If its down to the metal though, it'll probably need going to a specialist bodyshop where they can repair it and then respray the panels and blend them in to the rest of the car. This is NOT cheap, so insurance is your best bet.

    Bugger

I've been pretty lucky and haven't as yet had any of my cars keyed or vandalised. The worst I had was coming back to find someone had thrown an egg at my Lotus Plenty of times I'd leave the roof off one of my other cars whilst parked up and never had a problem with it. TVR was fine as well - ok I'd be careful where I'd park it but it was always in the same condition when I got back to it as when I'd left it In fact the main problem was getting mobbed by people who wanted to talk about it when trying to get back to it - my record was 3 different sets in one go in Sainsburys car park Dunno why it doesn't happen to me any more

    Anyway, to answer your questions:

    1. Nothing other than being careful where you park it. Unfortunately **** happens even when you do park in a decent place.
    2. Yep, pretty much.
    3. See 1
    4. Someone like Chips Away may be able to do it if it's a localised area (on the car that is), but the way you've described it it sounds like it will be a bodyshop re-spray job.
    5. Yes it should cover you - depends on your excess and NCB as to whether it is worth claiming or not

Insurance - if it is fully comprehensive, probably.

Fixed? Is the paint metallic? If so, the entire panels will have to be resprayed. You can't blend metallic paints.

    Toerag? Absolutely.

Years ago I came out of the St Ives Public Library to find a huge nasty dent in the offside rear door of my pride and joy Mk III Cortina GT2000. There was a note under the windscreen wiper.

"The people who saw me hit your car think I am leaving you my name and address.

    But I'm not."

It might not have been a big VW 4x4 that did it

So you immediately took the piece of paper to the Coppers who dusted it for prints and then went around that jokers house and wiped the smile off his face?

In fact it's statistically far more likely to have been a her. Women have far more motoring 'accidents' than guys. Don't shoot the messenger, I'm just pointing out the facts girls

    Wrong...!

Why do you think so many insurance companies only insure women?

By the way...I have never been in an accident...I only see them happening in my rear view mirror.

Because statistically women do far, far fewer miles per year than men and so therefore they represent a much lower risk for insurance companies.
