I was about to say a special thankyou to DT for reminding me about moves I'd forgotten, showing me new smooth moves and alternative timings for the same moves.
But seeing as you stole my compliment,

BTW, thanks SuzyQ. It was lovely to dance with you too.

Did you meet the likes of Div and Tweek? Sparkles? Was any of the ex Jango crowd there (may it live on in our hearts)?

If you haven't heard much Funky Lush stuff, it can certainly be a different experience, especially if you are used to fast, head bangy doof doof. Give it another go and I bet you will find yourself loving it more and more.

The music Toby plays gives you a chance to take your dancing in a whole different direction and shows a whole different side to Modern Jive.
That is the Funky Lush I know and love - but Saturday's FL was very different.

No Sparkles, Foxylady, Spicy or Foxy - not even Phil Web, Lory, Kev, PaulF, Amir, David & Lily or Kate & Will - and many of the other regulars were missing

    Even the music was different

However, I realise that TWK had to cater for the different crowd, as as you can see by the majority of the posts above - the boy did well

    Re: Funky Lush

I didnt think the music had changed that much. I managed quite a few WCS dances, Cha chas, Tangos and of couse some modern jive. There were some new tracks and some of the old favourites.
Like AAA, spent 70-80% leading - The gender balance wasnt great but as someones pointed out the lower the numbers the more obvious the difference in numbers between the genders. Quite a few of the regulars werent there too
It didnt get going till later which we thought was odd since it did have an early finish.
I think the next one at ashtead is booked for september - im sure we'll have a few to look forward to inbetween though

Maybe it was me ..... I haven't been to FL for quite a while now, and things do change as DT has said. There are certainly lots more WCS dancers and WCS dancing. (Had a lovely WCS dance with Msfab)

It was a very slow start, possibly because of the lack of men, I don't think I had a dance until about 10pm, however I had a fab dance with Marc and a couple fantastic dances with Simon Borland, and lovely dances with Chef, JiveLad & Woodface and the evening ended with a fab dance with Marty

I had a lovely evening, but I didn't dance all that much, a mixture of reasons - not just because of the lack of men.

Sometimes its nice to get to chat and catch-up, esp when you only see some people at dance venues (I didn't help myself sitting at the back chatting ) so am not going to complain about my lack of dances.

Had some lovely dances with SuzyQ testing out some new moves on me

He obviously didn't realise that the notorious DT was in the room.

You missed your opportunity there Simon.

Actually she said 'I love a minger'.

I don't think I've ever danced MJ with you but I find your WCS lead easy to follow and half the time I don't know what I'm doing in WCS anyway... I'll have to make sure we do it again soon - maybe without the extra "help" this time.

Oh, and you can add Dave H and myself to the list of forumites there (just very quiet ones!).

I'm not sure I agree. Funky Lush is what it is because it's difference. Otherwise it would just become another Ashtons or Hammersmith.. god forbid. I hope that Toby does keep his individuality when it comes to his playlists and doesn't bow to the pressure of playing more mainstream music.

It was my first Funky Lush so I have nothing to compare it with. As I said before, I thought the music was brilliant. 100% improvement on your standard Hammersmith or Ashtons.

    That is true ........

Maybe it was me, I haven't been to FL for a very long time - the music was definitely great, but not as challenging as I remembered it to be - but there again most of the usual leads were not there, and that certainly wasn't FL's fault, and as a professional TWK did need to adapt to the floor

(maybe this should be a new thread)
TWK most definitely set the scene, and we love him for it - but as DT has said "things do move on" and there are now are a few new'ish talented DJ's (male AND female) on the scene who have slipped from the standard 'ceroc-mould' and play excellant and sometimes challenging music

Most events have a 'second room' now, so that these talented DJ's can strut their stuff - and of course we have those wonderful weekenders
