    Funky Lush

So what was to be made of Funky Lush?

I had a good night but for me personally I prob wouldn't go again in a rush as the 2 hour drive each way is a bit much.

Was nice to hear a different style in music and see the non forumites that were in to their WCS.

The gender balance was way off though. I tried to get through as many ladies as I could (but thats another story )

Good to get a couple of dances with Gav (don't think we done anything to convince the DJ you were straight) and to Finally meet the very naughty DT. .

Great to see some others too. Suzie Q (we will have to dance again sometime, was knackered by the time we danced) Minnie M, Jivelad, Dizzy and the brilliant Almost an Angel.

The venue is in a great location, just not big enough and no real bar. Ended too early too.

It was great, I really enjoyed it, can't rate it highly enough.

Roughly how many people were there, then? With smaller numbers, any gender gap can become pronounced. 10 extra women in a group of 50 people is 50% over - in a group of 200, it's only a 55-45 split.

    Re: Funky Lush

    Well my first FunkyLush too.

    Negative
I'm told that most of the regulars weren't there, which was a shame because it certainly wasn't crowded. In fact when DT and I arrived, there was just the two of us and two other ladies for about 1/2 hour.
Apparently it was also their first time at the venue, so maybe we can forgive the lack of bar and dodgy lighting (too bright, I thought).
I was also told that the music wasn't really what DJ Kenobe usually plays

    positive
The people that were there were freindly and enthusiastic. Lovely to meet Jivelad, Almost an Angel and SuzyQ, and great to see all the lovely forumites that I know already.
The floor was good and the hall was nice and big, I'm sure that the lighting and bar can be sorted out for next time?
Music. What can I say? I was very impressed. There was probably only one track that I didn't like and apparently the music is usually better! Congrats DJ Kenobe, I loved it.
Leading woodface was an experience?! It probably didn't help that it was moments after a certain comeone told the DJ that I'm gay

I'll definitely be back whether it's at Ashtead or another venue.

wow - that many forumites! didn't realise! Please say hello next time....

The music was a nice change - the venue brilliant for the number of people IMHO - so much space - a real gold mine compared to Hammersmith on a busy busy night. (Depends what kind of mood you are in mind - sometimes busy is good as well! )

Was the floor a bit sticky on saturday? All the guys and girls with good technique were fine - Me, bad spinner - trying to get better, was atrocious! I'm hoping it was the floor.... I'm really not getting on with these sodding cubans... ankles where killing me by the end of the night! Dunno how you girls swear by heels!

Early fini wasn't too much of a bind - for me, I just needed to juggle the weekend a bit - and was able to wake up early enought to have a full day with the folks for Chinese new year!

Would have said Hello if I had known you were there.

The floor wasn't the greatest. Think I managed to pull off 4-5 spins which is below par.

The me , Gav and DT stealing game was a laugh though. Had a few people wondering what was going on. Esp as I ended up with gav.

    Re: Funky Lush

Yeah, the list of forumites (apologies for missing off this list, or my blog entry - but that was who I was introduced to - or mentioned in the above posts)

Woodface (known hereafter in my gang as 'Woodchip')
    Gav
    Double Trouble
    SeriouslyAddicted
    SpikyBlonde
    MinnieM
    Dizzy (spin-supremo!)
AlmostAnAngel (did I meet/dance with her? - dunno)
    John Sweeney (with Karen)
Chef (I guess with the trousers!)
    MartyBabe (did not meet...?)
SuzyQ (don't think I met her - could be wrong)
    JiveLad

As mentioned here and in my blog, the gender balance was way off. Two ladies left after a bit, and got their money back. My gang (non-forumites)of 3 ladies left after an hour and just went to the pub (a couple of them did have some good dances, including Gav and Woodchip) - but it was just too much of a challenge. I would guesstimate that at about 9:30 the gender balance was about 2:1 women to men.........maybe even more women (with 20-30 men?).

Overall, this was a good night - especially the music - and helped (along with Cheshunt the previous night) to move things along for me.

Now.........does anyone know where I can learn WCS in Hertfordshire?

I always seem to get back from these things and find that there were forumites whom I've never met and didn't know were there!
Maybe there's just too many forumites to know you all?

    Re: Funky Lush

Anyone know what the remix of Boogie Tonight was?

Though the music was great. Nice not to hear the usual kack.

The lighting was off. I was expecting a blues room esu atmosphear but insted was more like an afterclass freestyle.

The gender balance was way off but I guess it was one of them things. Nothing can be done about it.

AFAIK, most WCS classes and dances seem to be clumped around the Southwest London area - dunno why, historical I guess...

Funky Lush is not everyone's cup of tea... that's what makes it different. Some people love it, some people hate it.

Did you meet the likes of Div and Tweek? Sparkles? Was any of the ex Jango crowd there (may it live on in our hearts)?

If you haven't heard much Funky Lush stuff, it can certainly be a different experience, especially if you are used to fast, head bangy doof doof. Give it another go and I bet you will find yourself loving it more and more.

The music Toby plays gives you a chance to take your dancing in a whole different direction and shows a whole different side to Modern Jive.

Nope I don't think we did dance as I can remember all the men I danced with!! The reason for that is I was leading most of the time!! (no change there then!)

As for SuzyQ - you can't miss her - she's on the tall side!!!

OK Forumites you forgot that were there are:

    Mary
    MsFab
    Wicked Blue
    Just wiggle
    Modchick
    Keith J
    Divissima
    Mooncalf
Rachel (how could you miss out Rachel!)

Although the gender balance was a bit off (ok about double women) there were a fair few of us girlies leading to make up for it (SuzyQ, Ms Fab, Me etc). It was a good night - despite the slow start and me leading lots. Added bonus was I had 2 fab dances with Marc thank you for loaning him Rachel

As for WCS in Hertfordshire - nope can't think of any. What about coming down for the next Bisley Sunday?

***, Considering it wasn't exactly packed, how can we have not realised who all these forumites were? By the looks of it there were more forumites than not.
Were there 2 groups of forumites who don't know any of each others groups?
I think it's time to start wearing those forum t-shirts everywhere! I may have to get a slightly less offensive one though

Nah, it's just that the Funky Lush Liberation Front split off from the Liberation Front of Funky Lush a while back, and they don't speak to each other nowdays.

In total, at the Swish weekender just gone, I had 10 people come up to me to ask if there were any WCS classes in:
    Cambridge
    Lowestoft
    Norwich
    Newcastle (the NE one)
    Northamptonshire

and the rest I cannot remember.

Each one got the same answer. I apologised and told them that there simply are not any regular classes in these areas.
The only thing I could recommend was to make the journey, where possible, to the workshops in Surrey and/or Manchester region. I also mentioned there might possibly be some classes run by Ceroc central but I wasn't sure.

Its such a shame (and mildly frustrating) not to be able to say "YES!, there is a class here, here and here".
Hopefully, in time, things may improve.

    Fingers crossed !

    Doesn't matter if you're a miserable, unsociable g1t I suppose

It's just nice to know who people are, especially if you chat to them on here (or get dragged into blazing rows ) and then find that you go to the same venues.
It's nice to meet someone in the flesh after reading their posts.

You have got to be joking!

That is really weird - possibly more formites there then - well.... non-forumites!

Perhaps it would be nice - next time this happens... if the music can stop for a second, and a roll call announced.... an inpromtu BFG of the south?

    insane idea i know!

Both you and Gav graciously accepted my request for a dance. It would have been nice to be asked for a dance in return at another point in the evening, but given that there were so many ladies over I can understand that may not have been possible.

I rather enjoyed having the opportunity to chat with some of my fellow followers - it's not often one gets the chance it it's too busy.
