Is it sinful to make money from something you love?

Given the comments about making money and Ceroc in a separate thread, do people somehow believe that it is 'better' to be in a business for the love of it than because it might be profitable? And if so, are you going to offer a better service/experience/product because of it?

I can imagine that many people who worked for Ceroc for love last year will be working with a different dynamic this year, as they are working purely for the money...

That said, the Voluntary sector is famed for having people go that extra inch in their jobs because they do it for the cause, and not just for te employer/shareholder/franchisee/etc.

Not sweeping statements, and not without exceptions. Just observations.

I still love working for Ceroc, and do it for both. I loved working at Southport and other places too, and will miss that a lot. But you have to get over it, and move on if you have no other choice.

Franck is still a great boss to work for, and if it wasn't for Ceroc, then I wouldn't be dancing....

i would rather be skint and dancing than have money and not. yes money helps the business run and therefore you need to make money to keep it going but just cuz a business is making money doesnt mean the person running it is

If you talk to many dispatch riders, you will hear that most started out as motorbike enthusiasts. But having to ride has turned them off bikes completely. I wonder if there is a dance equivalent?

If you love the job, you will do your best to be the best and give the best. You will go to places and think about how you can improve the job you love. It will constantly be in your mind.

To do a job soley for money, you do your job, you dont do the above, you are able to switch off.

Don't think there's any thing as fabulous as doing a job that you love... had a job like that once but got made redundant - I love to dance and love to sing - be thrilled to make a good wage doing either.... but I wouldn't - so I'll have to keep working for the NHS!!

Any “Business” that does not make a profit, will eventually fail

And you can’t make a profit without making money

I run my own business and I love it

But I would not be doing myself, my customers or my employees, any favors, if I did not make a profit

There is absolutely nothing sinful in making a profit, quite the opposite

It would be sinful to let a business make a loss, just to have fun

Re: Is it sinful to make money from something you love?

Surely making money from something you love would be a great thing and is certainly what I'm aiming for.

I don't think making money or being wealthy is bad or sinful. Being poor sucks and I would rather avoid it as much as possible.

I think if your main aim is to make money for the sake of it and you do your job or run your business in a calculated/pushy/unethical/immoral way, you'll push it further away. if your main aim is to love what you do and/or do what you do as well as you can, the rewards will follow. Am I just horribly naive? I think I already know the answer.

Seems to me, that it's all down to principles and values.

Yes, sure, in order to continue to exist, any business needs to make money.

However, there are also ethics that go along with this. Many companies claim to be open, and yet see the need to hide certain things .... well, that's honesty and trust out the window.

How a company allows it's staff to be involved in decision making can, IMHO, play a vital role in how that company operates.

Re: Is it sinful to make money from something you love?

I think there is nothing better than getting paid to do something you love.

Thats what i do, i instruct various sports, and leisure activites. I figure that if i can enjoy these things this much, then hopefully i can pass this enthusiasm to others. Getting paid to do my hobbies - and to help others to do them - well that is just a bonus.

It was because of my views that i became a taxi dancer, and i love helping beginners with their dancing.

I watched some friends get into an unenviable state becoming involved in dancing competitions. I can't imagine how horrible it would be getting up on a Saturday and thinking 'O no, I have to go dancing this morning because my partner wants to practice'. Compare this to getting up on Saturday and thinking 'Great! Freestyle tonight!'.

I love Programming , ergo I became a Programmer and I get paid for that.

Some days I may feel differently and some days it's just not worth chewing through the leather straps. but on Average I enjoy programming. I hate my job but I love what I do.. if you can see the distinction there
