    Egg on Barry's face!

    Looks like I was wrong!

What was it PT Barnum said? No-one went broke by under-estimating the intelligence of people.

Looks like we shouldn't under-estimate their penchant for ridiculous beliefs either.

as far as religions go, there is nothing particularly ridiculous about that one. My classical studies teacher at school clearly believed in the Greek Gods, always made the lessons more interesting

As far as religions go, this one is no more ridiculous than the others

What a way with words this chap has. We on the forum could certainly learn from him.

That Zeus is a bit of a hunk. (Except for the beard, of course.) Wonder if it's worth phoning up and offering to have his babies? They probably need a few vestal virgins for the ritual and that.

Ah, the benefits of a classical education. Having Zeus' babies is rather tricky; see he can't afford to p!ss off Hera, so he tends to do it in disguise - as an animal. Swan, bull, that sort of thing. Could bring tears to your eyes...

Vesta (whose name was later adopted by the match manufacturer) was a Roman goddess, rather than Greek. Whether her Greek predecessor also had a bunch of virgins I do not know...

trivia point: it was through the temple of vesta that Julius Caesar, played by Kenneth Williams, was running when he yelled the immortal line: "Infamy! Infamy! They've all got it in fer me!"

I'll check next time I'm in a supermarket. There's probably still some 85 year old pensioner living in Blaenau Ffestiniog that refuses to eat anything else and accounts for 93% of sales. I used to love those crispy bits of fried plastic they gave you with the chop suey.
