Yeah had a great time as always. Learnt some fun moves, forgot about my toothache for a good couple of hours.

Only problem is i think i didnt dance enough cause the moves learnt today are starting to fade. Even while trying to write em down...

Though that could just my brain going to bed....

More cerocin tomorrow will jog my memory... and hopefully my dentist will work his magic and i'll be all fun and dance by the time Ceroc either that or still feeling a little apple cheek.

I had a fantastic night tonight, Lorraine taught us a couple of really lovely and useful moves (not sure about the cha cha cha footwork in the sway - but it was fun to try and learn). The new teacher at Stoke-on-Trent also taught a couple of crackers last night too. I am in desperate need of a few good solid two handed moves and any right handed move that isn't a yo-yo variation is like manna from heaven

I have finally achieved a personal goal tonight. A whole song without one 1st move or yo-yo! Yayyyy.... it finally feels like I'm starting to dance I know from bitter experience that this may be the calm before the storm, and that I may now take a couple for backward steps... but I'm kind of getting used to those knock backs now

    I love dancing

It'd be my pleasure - why do I feel like a lamb to the slaughter

But there are going to be some great dancers at Wolverhampton I hear, you won't want to be wasting your valuable dancing time with me babe. I suggest you watch me stagger about from the sidelines before making rash offers of dances

Why is this 'learning to dance'?

Personally, I use lots of 1st moves, or basic variations thereof (for example), everytime I freestyle. Maybe I need to learn to dance?

Because personally I have found that because yo-yo and 1st moves are quite long moves and get taught a lot, and give you something from your right and left hand I can end up using them for thinking time. Like a pair of crutches

This leads to a dull and uninteresting dance for my partner. As would any long move four or five times in a routine... this is not how I want to dance so I aimed for zero tolerance on 1st moves and yo-yo's to force myself to create other interesting ways of filling the three or so minutes. Now I have hit that target I know I can use them without abusing them. So I am happy to reintroduce them - I am sure if you stick on in there Tramp.....

There is nothing wrong with the moves, they are nice moves, it's just me, the pillock who is repeatedly pulling them

Well last night I learnt the Hatchback.. so now I go.. OH NO ANOTHER YO-YO !! and instantly switch to the hatchback

Last night was good, did "less" Yo-yo's and First moves (and my personal bane.. man spins). Well until I had a dance with Genie and she drew my attention to the fact I'd not done a Yo-yo or a man spin.. of course, it's the whole "Don't think of a Pink elephant" thing.. as soon as she said that all I could think of was Man spins and Yo-yo's (oh and Pink elephant obviously)

    Damn you you cruel woman

There was a couple of moves I think I will use again. Although I couldn't figure out how to stop the followers from turning out to their right side when I tried to do the sway comb thingie. I'd go to comb them.. and they would turn to the right .. Practice makes perfect I guess

All in all a good class.

Make sure that you've got a good 'block' with the right arm behind their back, and don't lead much of a rotation as you do the 'caress', it's a quick (but smooth) motion.

If you ever need any assistance, all you have to do is ask. Either myself, or Lisa (I'm sure), will be more than happy to help.

Oh I managed a very good block on one lady last night. As per the "what not to wear" thread I managed SOMEHOW to put her into the sway and get my right index finger stuck in her belt loop !

At least my hand was definitely on her waist !!

I think it was a non-forumite.. but if not then I apologise. It did seem to amuse her greatly

    - anyone would think i live in a mansion from the way you both go on!!

No the 'help' don't fish the salmon - its a delicate art you know, they are far too brutish for that. However the are able to exercise the horses when we don't have the time, in between polishing the white pebbles on the drive and washing the spare cars.

Re: Was last night amazing for you too?

Something happened tonight and it was so cool.

I went into a move and decided I wanted to do something other than I had planned for the next move because the girl I was dancing with was easy to sway with. So I changed my plans and brought her out a different way and went into a move I sort of plucked out of the air, and it all worked seamlessly!

This feels like REAL progress! This is a very good thing! StokeBloke is a happy boy. It only happened the once, but....

    I love dancing
