It's just like a normal reply. I'd guess about 90% of my replies are done as "quick" replies.

A useful tip to remember is that if you quote the message you are replying to, once you post your reply you can then edit it to trim the quote – just like <s>I'm going to do with the quote of your post in a second</s> I've done with the quote of your post just now.

So does that mean you have to go back and edit? Doesn't that sort of offset the 'quick' bit?

One plus is could be that you don't get smilies....

When you click the "edit" button, you get to edit the message in-place – and it's something you'd want to do either way. Quicker to do it on the page you're on, rather than visiting three extra pages, and having to go "back" three times to get back to the threads list.

Oh, and smilies work just as well.

    This is a good tip.

I just did my first ever quick reply.......and it does save time. I never would have used it otherwise......

I didn't say they didn't work - they're just not as easily available an option. When I use quick reply the smilies aren't automatically there - I have to either type them in by name or 'go advanced' which takes me to the normal reply pane.

And I tend to edit in place anyway.
