Smile Genuine websites - quite funny!

These are all genuine websites - where they may not have considered all the possible ramifications. I like the Italian Power company.

    1. Who Represents is where you can find the name of the agent
that represents any celebrity. Their Web site is www.whorepresents.com

    2. Experts Exchange is a knowledge base where programmers can exchange advice and views at www.expertsexchange.com

    3. Looking for a pen? Look no further than Pen Island at
    www.penisland.net

    4. There's the Italian Power Generator company,
    www.powergenitalia.com

    5. If you're looking for IP computer software, there's always
    www.ipanywhere.com

    6. The First Cumming Methodist Church Web site is
    www.cummingfirst.com

well the address for experts exchange is actually www.experts-exchange.com , so you've made that up. And ipanywhere is perfectly innocent unless you are a primary school child apart from that, your list is fine

As far as I can remember from a few years back when all of these websites suraced:
    ipanywhere and cummingfirst were genuine.
expertsexchange was genuine, but they changed it to experts-exchange a couple of years ago when they realised.
Powergenitalia is just a joke and always has been.
IIRC both whorepresents and penisland were used deliberately as a marketing ploy because they knew that the 'accidental' misinterpretation would spead their names far and wide.

It's a traditional thing to do with such messages. To me, it's only funny if the site's real.

Ive been a member for more than 4 years it has always had the hyphen but i think (but i was told, never tried it) that the domain expertsexchange.com did actually point to a porn site at one point - so i think the whole thing is a myth.

Think someone twigged that the calling yourself the British Association of Plastic Surgeons, with a website called www.baps.org.uk is open to a bit of a ribbing. So it has changed to the British Association of Plastic, Reconstructive and Aesthetic Surgeons at www.bapras.org.uk.

    Spoilsports

www.baps.org.uk is now run by the British Association of Paediatric Surgeons, which does sound a bit wrong

On the subject of confusing URLs, slipknot.com used to be home to a website for knitting enthusiasts. Sadly, fans of the metal band Slipknot used to get very confused by this & terrorise the poor grannies on-line. Now it's just a placeholder & full of links.

apparently boyzone.com is not about the band - but i refuse to look

and hotmail users are often shocked when they get their wires crossed and type "hotmale"

On a vaguely related note, I did hear a tale about the day when Scunthorpe County Council turned on their new spam filtering system, and then took a week to figure out why they suddenly stopped receiving any email.

I also like the story about the Siemens Building Automation Division headquarters, situated in Staines. The legend goes that if you ring them, they really do greet you with "Siemens, Staines". I have yet to try it, but the number is: 01784 461616 if anyone's bored

    1. Please look up the word 'progeny' and I for one would then like to know what word you really meant to use.

    2. If you are disclaiming ownership of the list, then you should have put 'apparently' in your first post, as in "these are all genuine websites, apparently".

Thanks for your feedback - that's great!

    Provenance is perhaps more apposite.

I used progeny to indicate that these were memes which have a 'father/mother' (not me) - who put the list together (apparently).

    Happy Dancing!
