What blockbuster films will you see in 2007?

    I'm definitely planning to see:
    • Sin City 2 (possibly several times )
    • 300
    • Spiderman 3
    • Shrek the Third

Any other big films people are looking forward to?

Harry Potter and The Prisoner of Azkaban. Can't wait.
Went to see Eragon a couple of days ago. The effects were well done but the storyline was rather predictable.

Well, it's an easy mistake to make, they're all the same anyway. Boy wizard gets older, shock horror, battles Evil, shock horror, and finishes adventure by the end of term, which is handy.

Don't diss them, they manage to entertain me and keep me quiet for 2 or more hours. What more do you want?
Have you watched any of them DJ? (Or is it another one of your psychic reviews of things and places you haven't experienced?)

    The Simpsons Movie
Some silly film about Caribbean Pirates, in the hope that it's better than the second installment.

Yep - 3 of them. And read 3 of the books.

I wish to God I understood the whole Harry Potter mania.

I've spent 30+ years devouring this sort of material voraciously, I must have read literally thousands of fantasy novels, but that stuff is at best second-rate. Way behind Tolkein, Lewis, Pullman, Pratchett - and frankly not even up to Feist levels; about on a par with Eddings I'd judge. Very little is memorable or even quotable, from what I recall...

If someone could explain Why It's Good to me, that'd be great...

It's like a guilty pleasure, innit? for admitting it in an open forum though...

(I may see Rocky 6 too, in that same vein)

Not awaiting the blockbusters with bated breath, but my three most anticipated media items are:

    Film: Hot Fuzz
Book: Fatal Revenant (book 2 of the Last Chronicles of Thomas Covenant)
TV Series: Life On Mars Series 2

Really!?? I found Donaldson literally unreadable. This from someone who has read some Barbara Cartland (though, to be fair, her entire output would probably fit between the covers of a single Donaldson volume), at least one Jeffrey Archer book (can't remember which) and The da Vinci code.

I've not read Ms. Cartland's work, so cannot comment there, but as for the others - surely it's a bit unfair to compare children's fiction to novels with the depth and literary merit that Donaldson's best works exhibit?

So you read 3 and watched 3, they couldn't have been that bad then!
Perhaps the appeal is they are lighter reading than the likes of TolkIEn.

As an aside, I just realised that the central conceit of Life On Mars is similar to that of the Covenant novels, at least, the First Chronicles. Individual is translocated in a manner which defies rational explanation, and is fearful of accepting the reality of the situation.

I read the first out of curiosity a while back. Out of sheer boredom I read my (10 year-old) nephew's copy of the "Half-Blood Prince" on summer holiday last year - which frankly was dire. I then thought "Am I missing something?" and read the "Phoenix", which was marginally better.

The three films were watched (under protest) with various kids aged between 5 - 12 over the years. Under similar circumstances, I've seen Cars, Happy Feet, Ice Age 1 - 2, and Garfield - and apart from Garfield, all those films were better than Harry Potter...

I've nothing against escapist fiction - I'm a big big fan of Pratchett. But they're just not, you know, very good.

Well, I like it mostly because it reminds me of my time at school.
