Who am I?
I have cities, but no houses, forests, but no trees, and rivers but no water.
What am i?
I was thinking it's something like the football league, but I can't think of a team with river in it....... so I would have a crack at... you're a map?
Indeed i am - i guess the buck is passed back to you!!!
Well, your counting might be a little off, or you could be confused, or is it me that is confused!!
Here's mine:
I have a basket of fresh eggs. I go to person A and give them half the eggs in my basket and half an egg. I go to person B, give them half the eggs left in my basket and half an egg. I go to person C, give them half the eggs in my basket and half an egg. I have no eggs left. How many did I start with?
well, if you finish with nine then you person C must receive hapf an egg, to equal the other half that is nown.. Perosn B gets one and a hlaf + a hl;af so you have three when he is ready. Since you started Person B with 3, then you must have 7 when confronting person A? (7-(3.5 +.5)=3)
Um, 7
I came by the same answer (7) but with slightly different logic (I don't know how you got the number 9 in your calculations?).
As usual the starting point is the trick.
If you end up with no eggs and the last person got half the eggs + 1 half, there can only have been 1 egg.
Person B got half the eggs + 1 half, so 1 + 1/2 = half the eggs, therefore there must have been 3 eggs when you approached person B.
Person C got half the eggs + 1 half, so 3 + 1/2 = half the eggs, therefore you started with 7 eggs.
and seeing as they were fresh eggs which had to be halved, you also got a very messy basket!

1=3

5=4
6=3
7=5
8=5
9=4
10=3
So what does
11=?
12=?
EDIT: Oops, there's me jumping ahead without waiting to see if we were right! Sorry Mrs. Warwick
