    Why submit neg rep's

Firstly hapy new year to all.

    Slightly peeved about this.

Imagine, im on the Forum, I reply to a thread, a reply to my reply is given so others and I reply and so on (are you keeping up).

There are no comments to say I have spoken out of line or a Forumite dislikes what I have written or even any playful banter about what I have written.

If the forum is to view and comment about things why do I keep getting negative rep's that are for my eyes only?
Why not use the Forum for what it is intended for - being public debate?
Why is it when I get a negative rep, it's not signed?

I don't know if it actually means anything by getting good or bad reps, I just think if your going to comment on things via a forum, it should be through the forum.

For the record, i have had two good reps

there's been plenty of threads on that subject lately, for example here, and here...

Usually people will tell you in the rep comment why they felt the need to neg-rep you. It is also usually considered bad form to complain about it (and might earn you some more ), best thing is to accept or dismiss the comment if you think it's ludicrous and get over it.

EDIT: and if you pay the membership fee to become silver member, you'll be able to see who repped you

Some people prefer to disagree with you privately using neg rep, that's all.
If you're really bothered about who it's from, pay up £6 and find out.
But really, it's just a forum.

Amen to that. IMO the whole rep system isn't needed, but let's not go there

    To quote the FAQ:

Also, please be aware that many people see it as bad form to complain in public about specific negative reps received - it may even get you more negative rep (!).
Was there any part of that that was difficult to understand?

Ta for the neg rep there

Alluding to me being Tired was not disagreeing with me privately using Neg Rep. It was making a a statement that would probably been better placed in the open forum

as it is just a forum - you did say that didn't you?

Really? My point was that you were wasting space by posting pointless comments like "yawn". If you don't like the thread, give your neg rep and don't bother reading it anymore. I chose to not waste anymore by making my comment using the rep system.

BVgger, now you've got me wasting space.

Yep, that was me. If I thought it was more important than that, I wouldn't be so free with the neg rep.

He wasn't wasting space. The YAWN made his feelings clear and I concur wholeheartedly. In fact, at least HIS post contributed his feelings his thread whereas yours is bitching about someone else not posting or using neg rep the way you think they should. Have some perfectly understandable neg rep.

If you look at the FAQ, there's some background information on neg repping,, which hopefully should explain things a bit more - the text in that post was generated based on the results of the recent debates alluded to.

Generally, the current feeling is that this is, overall, a useful feature. Although some people have different opinions of course

Why not use the Forum for what it is intended for - being public debate?
Neg Rep is simply a very quick "I don't approve" from someone. Like a "BOO" from the crowd when you are talking out of your donkey at a real life "public debate" Likewise, if you get a round of applause at your next public debate, think of that like a positive rep. An instant form of feedback. On an internet forum a positive rep is the best we can hope for, uncomplicated sex from groupies rarely happens..unlike public debates, where they give it away. Whilst it would be nice if no one ever booooo'ed us, in a free country people are entitled to their stupid opinions .

I don't know if it actually means anything by getting good or bad reps, I just think if your going to comment on things via a forum, it should be through the forum.
Well, it matters to you or you wouldn't have brought it up. I'm almost tempted to comment on you "not reading the forum" when we very recently have had 2 huge threads about this very subject but i remember where that got me the last time. So, I'll just shake my head and mumble. shake-shake mmmbl-mmmbl

For the record, i have had two good reps
and I have a herd of left handed wildebeest, a collection of interesting shot glasses and a portrait of TheTramp signed, complete with lipstick kiss, "to DS, with love"....and nobody cares about that either. This is a joke. Before you get upset and call me names again, I'm just pointing out that rep is a very minor part of the forum you can ignore it as you see fit, or, take it onboard as a "boo" or a "clap" as I said above. But most of the regulars are fairly sick of hearing about it by now I for one will be interested in hearing how much neg rep you get for this thread though

Or you may mysteriously find that this thread strangely merges into those two other threads already mentioned...

    Awww..... don't....

If you combine it with the Outside one, we won't be able to rep it.
