    Vegetarians are smarter - Discuss

According to THIS story on the BBC website Vegetarians are smarter on average than "meaties"

now, does this mean they are smarter because they're vegetarian or vegetarian because they are smarter

And what about consumption of oily fish being good for the brain.

ok.. meaties, veggies and undecideds .. discuss

I remember doing a project on this subject a few years ago and looked through these studies. The research does point towards vegetarianism being a healthier choice but there are huge benefits to the body from eating meat too.

What is highlighted in this article is true in that it does tend to be the higher classes in society that opt for vegetarianism therefore, the IQ's are already higher so the results are void.

    So why does it say?

Researchers said the findings were partly related to better education and higher occupational social class, but it remained statistically significant after adjusting for these factors.

What has the type of food you eat got to do with the way you dress and present yourself?

Well I find if I eat things with tomato sauces then I'm best not to wear white.. if I don't remember this and do wear white then invariably I end up looking like I'm wearing a Jackson Pollock

I'm very skeptical (audience: "No!"; Barry "Yes, really!) about this.

I am reminded of the observation Speaker-to-animals makes to Louis Wu about Nessus, the vegetarian alien:

"How much intelligence does it take to sneak up on a leaf?"

Could this be the perfect thread in which to resurrect this old link?

Or would that be a bad thing for me to do?

Of course, we all know you don't eat grass, although I have heard that it can be baked into cakes. For medicinal purposes of course.

I didn't spend 65 million years getting to the top of the food chain just to eat plants. If *insert Deity of choice* wanted us to be vegetarians, why did he/she make animals out of meat? Anyway meat tastes better - much better. If you wish to eat only plants, I fully respect your right to do so, it's just not for me.

Interestingly, I had an asparagus and carrot dish in an Uzbek restaurant recently, with a veggie friend, and the asparagus had the texture and taste of chicken!
