What an amazing view though!!

I've just seen this and it made my stomach turn over... there is nothing in this world that would make me drive a 10ton truck in Bolivia!
Would YOU

thats Mental.
Similar to the mountain roads in Morocco.
That was a great trip. Beautiful views and the gorgeous woman next to me on the minibus was so petrified that she was virtually sitting on my lap, burying her head in my chest so she didn't have to see out of the window.
Wasn't the first part of the slideshow in a film sometime? Definitely triggered some memories....
There was an edition of Radio 4's "From Our Own Correspondent" about a road in Bolivia - I guess it may be the same one. I suspect the audio has disappeared from Listen Again by now, but a transcript is here.
Love dance, will travel
It's an old one, but this clip of driving in India always makes me laugh.
Apparently (the girl that sits next to me at work is part-Ecuadorian) roads like that are not only ubiquitous in South America, but it is also really common for buses (with 100 people on) to overtake those 10-ton trucks on those roads, and the surfaces are so poor that tyre-slipping is pretty frequent too.
If I ever say I'm going to South America, please someone put me in a straight-jacket!
I wonder what th figures are for accidents per year on them roads.
ahh, 200 per year on ave

Reminds me a bit of a journey in Nepal. Lovely views out the side windows over the valleys from the winding roads. Looking out the front window, at the speed we whizzed round blind corners and passed on coming traffic - lets just say I kept looking out the side. The sheer drop was less scary to look at! At least it was a two lane road though.
