Windows Mobile 5 and Outlook send

    Anyone.

Is it possible to set up Outlook on a Windows Mobile 5 (Pocket PC) device so that one will only send messages not download them from the mail server?

I vaguely remember a desktop mail client (maybe it was "proper" Outlook) where one could choose "send" or "Send/Receive" on messages.

What I want to do is compose messages using Outlook on WM5 /PPC - because the integration with the contacts is good, then send them in one hit to Yahoo through POP/SMTP (or whatever it is).

At the moment when I connect to Yahoo mail, the hundreds of messages in my inbox will download to the WM5/PPC device. Not nice.

I have tried putting an invalid name in the Outlook configuration for the mail download server (POP? SMTP?) but I can't get Outlook to connect since it responds with "mail server not found".

I have googled this and looked on news but no suggestions.

My orange SPV has as option to 'Automaticly download messages from server'.

Just switched this to off and it worked how you wanted it to.

Have a look for that option in the settings

    Thanks.

That would be good, but I can't find such an option under WM5.

I *think* Mobile Outlook downloads the email headers and the first "part" of a message because at the bottom of each message that *did* end up in my WM5 Inbox, before I stopped the deluge, is a little link for downloading the "rest" of a long message and to download any email attachments such as word files. This behaviour is a bit like reviewing the mail through a Web mail interface without actually downloading the mail to the PC.

Any other ideas? To be honest, I'm not that hopeful.

    It's WM5 im using.

Don't have it to hand now.

Sounds obvious but is there a option saying, Download headers?

Other than that I know it's longwinded but, set up another pop email account (plenty of free ones out there) that you are never going to use. Sent incomming pop/mail server to that pop address and Hey presto!!!!

IT. if theres not a solution, Blag it.

You may also find it could be a sync outlook / mailbox option.

    WM5 .. a Treo I'm testing.

ActiveSync... Menu... Options. Select E-mail and click Settings. In there you can tell it how many days and set it to headers only. That could cut down on the deluge.
