    Cold calls

Stuck at home at the moment, so I'm getting the cold calls. Not many, to be fair, but I think I just had my second favourite of all time. Not hugely funny, per se, but it just felt... surreal.

    Me: "Hello?"
    Stranger: "Is that Mr Stock?"
Me: "No. I'm afraid Ms Stock is out at the moment. Can I help?"
    [pause]
Stranger: "Are you Mr Stock?" (sounding exasperated)
Me: "No. I am Mr Lewis."
    [pause]
    Stranger: "Holy Ma..."[click]
    [end of call]

Holy what? Holy Mary? Holy Mackeral? I feel deprived now...

Whose click? Yours or theirs? If theirs, then whoever it was gave up quickly.

Theirs. And yes - they did. They probably realised there was no way of getting back on script by that stage...

Personally I think he was calling from home. His dear mother was making him a cheese sandwich and what you didn't hear (she was probably just waving the options to the cold caller from the kitchen) was she was enquiring if he wanted Gorgonzola cheese or Swiss Cheese (The one full of holes). Of course, he forgot he was on the phone to you and replied

    "Holey Ma!"

then realising he'd said that out loud instinctively he hung up the phone out of embarrassment.

Pretty obvious if you think about it

Maybe he was just having a bad day, and his previous call had been this one...
