    My report after 1st Class!

    Hi All,

I thought it be easier to make new thread about my first class. Here I go,

I did really enjoy myself and am finding myself continually going through moves in my head, is this normal??? even sitting here, i am still going through it all in my mind !

I dont know the names of moves so it not really important to me as long i know how to do it. People were fab, really nice. I am very grateful to one man called Bob who stayed with me in the 1st part going over the moves etc. Thank you Bob. The teacher was really nice, thank you for taking ur time to explain to me.
The downfall was i realised i couldnt feel the music while dancing but i could feel it while sitting down but as long i follow the man's lead, i cope fine, with some mistakes but hey that is normal!!! BUT i am currently waiting for my hearing aid to arrive so when that arrive, i will probably hear music in the beat form so cross fingers!!

I am definately going back next week as new moves to learn, more things to experience!! I did enjoy freestyles too, learn few new moves shown to me so that all good

I also met some people there that use here so Hello to you all!!

    Hi Shona,

Glad you enjoyed your first Ceroc experience! Welcome to the world of the dance addicts...

I don't very often go on a Wednesday night, just occasionally for the freestyle. I'm more often at the Invercarse, or at the party nights, but hopefully I'll get to meet you at a dance event in the future?

Fingers crossed that your new hearing aid will make it possible for you to hear the beat of the music, and make it a bit easier for you.

Here's to lots more dancing in the future!

    Yup, that's normal

That comes with time - to begin with it's all about getting through the move, as you get more used to them you'll pick up the names pretty quickly

Mistakes are very normal, especially on your first go. Hopefully the hearing aid will help

Glad you had a good night!!

Glad you had a good time, Shona. It's a lot of fun, if you stick at it. Some beginners run off a few weeks in because they feel they're not advancing quick enough (whilst watching the other dancers on the floor) but if you keep going, you will not regret it. The community is a wonderful one and there is nothing like dancing for feel-good factor (well, nothing publicly acceptable, anyway)

Hope to see you at some of the Ceroc parties

Going out for a good curry isn't publicly acceptable?

Anyhow, glad you enjoyed your 1st class. Will no doubt see you around before too long

HI Shona, and congratulations on completing your first class but also having the foresight into giving us a report.I hope you keep coming and learning.Im sure you will get that beat, but remember the man is supposed to lead,so if he is any good you will always be on beat even without hearing aid,I SAID EVEN WITHOUT YOUR HEARING AID .
Enjoy and we will see you at the parties

Congratulations - you have learned the most important lesson straight away.

Absolutely correct. When you are learning the moves your brain is too busy trying to co-ordinate your muscles to allow you to relax into the music. That will come in time when the moves get into your muscle memory. (Meantime, if things go wrong just blame the man - he's supposed to be leading you anyway.)

Hope to see you around at the Invercarse or at Perth. Meanwhile, dance on, and well done for going public with your first impressions.

    John

    Breathe
    Smile
    Relax
Move only when your partner leads you
    Enjoy

You have learnt ALL these Important Lessons all in one go! I'm sure that I took ages to do them (If I do them now )

    Hope I meet you soon

All those things are more important than knowing the names of moves. As you said, relax and follow the man.

Thanks for reporting back - good to know that you enjoyed it. Glad also that threads helped you, I hope that our comments have encouraged you too.

And yes - its normal to find yourself thinking about moves, practising spinning in the kitchen etc.

    Hi,

really glad you enjoyed your evening. You did very well, and stayed quite late for a beginner which will help you improve quickly. (Too many beginners leave early and miss out on the freestyle which is an important part of the evening for developing your new skills). So well done you!!

Bob is such a gentleman, we knew he would be delighted to help.

    See you next week,

    Lotsa love Lorna x-x

    Shona,

I occaisionally make the journey down to Dundee for their parties at the Bonar hall. I hope next time I make it down that I'll get to have a dance with you.

So glad to hear you enjoyed your first night, I still remember mine and thinking how lost I felt, but how much fun I'm having now.
