Will admit I do like the design of the Ipod, well I did when they first came out.

    The Zune will be interesting.

Because it was smaller, lighter, more powerful, more elegant and worked better with my Mac than a Zen.

I have not found it to be "unrobust" or "rubbish". I am not sure what you mean by "cack", but I didn't find it expensive either.

Say I was buying an iPod Nano (8GB) or a iPod (80GB) today, what Zen would you recommend instead? (There are so many different Zen's I've no idea where to start...)

    3. Because the copy protection is awfull No one but Apple is allowed to make players for iTunes Music Store songs, and no one but Apple can sell you proprietary file-format music that will play on the iPod.
    4. It's made by Apple
Surely reason 1 and 3 have nothing to do with iTunes? You can use iTunes without using an iPod (though the reverse isn't true). The copy protection, unlike Windows Media Player, isn't on all tracks only the ones you buy from the iTunes Store.

I, like Under Par, love iTunes Smart List organising. I find the interface clean and easy to use and it plays back music fine. I bought an iPod (Shuffle, then later, a Nano) because I loved iTunes and liked the idea of being able to directly copy the playlist across without copying it from Windows Explorer. I admit that Apple got me on that one and that, if they had less dominating market force, that I might be able to use different players with iTunes but it doesn't stop my loving my iPod anyway.

I like a lot of Apple products, I think OSX is well ahead of XP or even Vista (with a lovely BSD core as well) but I'm a game player and doubt I'd move away from the much cheaper PC and Windows for a long time to come (though I do own an old Apple iBook).
