Yup - you can't tell if a girl is a geek till she opens her mouth

    Re: World of Warcraft

    OK. Quandry.

Item: On Thursday I have this long-awaited operation I've been moaning about for ages.
Item: I'm off work for two weeks, and off dancing for at least two months.
Item: I have a shedload of domestic stuff to catch up on.
Item: They are selling WoW for £14.99 in the local Game.
Item: Just about everyone who's tried it seems to love WoW.
Item: This lunchtime might be my last chance to buy it before Thursday.

Hmmm. Should I risk getting it? If I get it, will my subsequent addiction destroy my life? Would getting it be a really good way of passing the time, or a really really stupid idea? Help!

£14.99 isn't that much to lose...

Of course, having it destroy your life might be!

    Get it, no question.

You can always walk away when you're ready to start dancing again...

    EDIT: Just saw this one:

Get the game. I lead a very busy and active life but dont let WoW rule it. WoW for me is just a minor part of my life for when I have some time for computer gaming. Its a nice easy to play game thats fun.

Good to see many other WoW players out here.

A geeky kind of domestic. Mainly lots of website work to catch up on at home. Falling behind somewhat.

    Ya, I'd go with that.

I was thinking about it, though, and I reckon that WoW isn't addictive per se. Rather, it is the Sunk Cost Fallacy hooked up on steroids and turned into a game.
Of course, if you are a scientific and rational thinker, then you'll be completely immune.

The nays have it. I resisted temptation (not even remotely convinced about the 'Sunk Cost' business, mind - just steering clear of the potential addiction.)

    Ta everyone for the input.

Is there anything free, good, easy to use that we could have a bash on in the evenings whilst we wait for interesting posts on the forum? assuming we aint off dancing?

OK. This may not be your cup of tea, but it's free.... and it has destroyed enough lives to prove its addictiveness. The Discworld MUD

I even wrote some small parts of it, but don't let that put you off
