    2nd/3rd/4th November – London

Can’t be bothered to do a poll.

Is anyone else in London this weekend, or are you all Midlands bound?

Slight change of plan for Beowulf’s trip – looks like we will probably be at Fulham tomorrow night, but probably not the Casbah on Friday.

Anyone else coming to Greenwich on Saturday (fancy dress or not)? Remember fireworks on Blackheath beforehand Should get there just in time for the class.

    Fighting talk!

Actually, the venue at Woking is nicer than Greenwich - big hall, aircon, free indoor parking. West Greenwich Community Centre isn't as nice, and it's smaller.

Having said that, I found the standard of Greenwich dancers to be much higher than at Woking. But then, I've only been to both venues once, so it's not exactly a comprehensive survey.

No it's not in London!! Surrey isn't it?

Anyway, it's miles from me and I have two other non-forumite dancers coming along as well (having dinner at mine first and then one is driving), plus hopefully FirstMove. So I can guarantee a good standard of dancers at Greenwich on Saturday... And does Woking have fireworks first too...

No idea who the teacher was but god talk about labour it!

I make a pretty big assumtion here that he did infact start the class on time 9.00 but I couldn't quite work out why he was still droning on at 9.45.
Made doubly annoying because the girl on the desk charged me full price to get in at 9.28 (hmmmmm).

Standard of dancers is so much lower than when the Green shirts ruled but had a few nice dances. Didn't see many guys that I thought were reasonable either.

    Music absolutely *****!

It was obviously prewritten onto a disk and the pauses (oh we do like pauses) but these were too long! There was enough of a hiatus between each track to start to wonder 'Oh is that it then?' and feel you'd just made an arse of yourself for asking for a dance after the end of the night.
As far as I'm concerned a DJ is there to play decent dancable music and keep people entertained. But a good DJ lays down the tracks in a way to pique your interest and get you on the floor almost before you realise it by playing tracks in a way that he feels work for that night and that crowd. They read the crowd and the night and try and find good tracks to stick on in my opinion. You can't stuff in a cd and walkaway, Actually you can and it won't work and that will be Woking Mondays then.

So in essence Lesson tooooooo long, Freestyle in response too short, Music Dire.

    Good Points . . . . . .

    Car park is free!

I'd like to ask how you could take a rockin venue like Woking was under RebelRoc and do that to it? But I better not. . . .

I think given the quality of the reasoned arguments here, my vote goes with Greenwich. Woking still pulls in the numbers, but just doesn't do it for me.

Oh no? I'm not agreeing with DJ am I?

Free Parking (after 8pm) - Free Water - Aircon - Fast floor - what more do you want?
Oh it has me there too!!!

Trousers review was upon a class night - totally different to the Freestyle nights. And responding to the music was dire - as I wasn't there I can't say but I know the normal DJ was ill that night (as he's a friend).

As for the standard of dancers Woking may not always have the best dancers there but I always have a good night and find people to dance with. I know for a fact that several forumites were at the Halloween Ball on Sunday night!

Plus Woking is only 30 mins away so I don't have the 2 hours drive to Greenwich to contend with.

Anyone going to the Ashton's Chill-out lounge on Sunday afternoon? Is it any good?

And while we're on Ashton's, I'll be there tonight so maybe see you there!

Thanks Angel (and for the PM). Will look out for you! Greenwich is actually nearer for me although I didn't know there was anything on there when I agreed to go to Woking...so hope nobody from Greenwich feels offended.

I did like Greenwich when i went there as it happens, although the two times I went were different venues and the second (larger venue) was better. Must have been the presence of the bar...

Here's my review of the Greenwich place from September.

Look, I'm a big fan of comparative reviews - but let's put some actual detail behind it, OK? It's useless (to me as a punter) to be told that "XXX was rubbish" - I want to know why.

So a bit less of the random, unsubstantiated, unattributed moans, and a bit more of actual proper information, wouldn't go amiss.
