    Implosion or Explosion?

If something "explodes" inside another thing. Is it and implosion or an explosion?

Cuz the thing inside explodes but the thing outside has an implosion!

    Help we cant decide.

Surely an implosion is when something collapses in upon itself? I think what you're describing is just a contained explosion?

Explosion. Where it happens is immaterial.

An implosion is a completely different process - but again, where it happens doesn't matter.

    Boy, we're both bored today...

Explosion is something that explodes outwards. an implosion is something that collapses into itself.

Like that man said. I suppose there might be a case where an internal explosion might cause the outer object in implode (a light might be a good example where the filament exploding might cause the glass to implode... but I've never seen this happen).

Light-bulbs aren't evacuated (they're full of nitrogen) but the appropriately-named vacuum tubes are: so old fashioned thermionic valves will implode, as will (as I have witnessed) the CRT's from old TV sets and CRT monitors.

Today's another day... What was that question?

No. Assuming you are more likely to start walking onto your left foot (because you are right-footed), then when you stop walking you'll either have taken an even number of steps on each foot, or one more step onto your left. If there's an even split, then you'll end up taking half as many extra steps on your left foot as times you have walked.

    How's that for an answer?

That's a completely unjustified assumption though.

    How's that for a quibble?

But if you're right footed and you've ever hopped at all, your likely to have hopped on your right foot, thereby balancing it all out again!

I gave a similar answer by PM last night (managed to winkle the question out of her early!).
