I beg to disagree you are one of the most charming people I have met.:flower:

Yes, you're quite right. And I'm working on it, honest! Though, as with most worries, they are often unfounded. And my insecurity about my shyness and lack of conversational skills are normally more than compensated by the people I'm meeing who are so outgoing and friendly that they happily lead the way in any conversation.

Good for you, Martin - I knew this "luvvie-duvvie" stuff was rubbish, and I'm glad to see you're agreeing with me here by getting some digs in.
You need to get a bit more viciousness in your sarcasm, but you're coming along nicely - well done :)

I just try and be the same with everyone ..., as you would, no?
I must admit, though, the idea of forum gatherings do scare me. However, not because they consist of forumites, nor because I find forumites particularly cliquey.
It's just me in any similar social situation - I'm not very good at chit chat with groups of people, and knowing what to say. So after I've said hello, I feel a bit stupid and lost. (So, um, what are your hobbies? Oh, dancing. Right, yes, me too ....)
But it's not that I don't want to get to know people. Obviously it's fine once you've had a dance with someone and a chance to get to know them a bit ... But that's just me and my own paranoias - I wouldn't dream of blaming anyone else for it.

:yeah: I can smile and dance with anyone and everyone at dance things - random small talk however, especially with big groups of strangers/new people, I struggle with. Slowly though I am getting to know a few forumites through brief chats or whatever when I see them at events. The thought of just turning up and introducing myself at a big gathering still scares the crap out of me though haha  :flower:
Re: Join me in a pledge!!!!!!!
 Socialising?? I thought we were here to dance? (;))
I tend not to say more than a couple of sentences in an entire evening of dancing (beyond asking for a dance and thanking the follower). I suppose I must be one of the most anti-social dancers you will find. But with dancing I don't need to be confident in my social skills {probably just as well :innocent:} - I can ask the most proficient and classy dancer with the same line and smile as I ask a complete novice.
With experience comes confidence in your own dancing skills, which means that you don't really need confidence in your social skills ~ proffer your hand, smile sweetly and you seldom have to even risk opening your mouth... If I didn't love dancing so much, it might be another reason to spend so much time on the dance floor - don't need to socialise :D
...perhaps this may also explain some of the reason why MJ is so open and friendly towards new faces - stick with the 'old' faces and you may at some point be forced to... you know... actually converse with them... and make sense... and not just jibber incoherently. :what: (just a theory)
