Re: SP Forum BBQ policing...
Out of interest, I checked back through the Southport poll thread:
http://www.cerocscotland.com/forum/s...tml#post408262
I think it could have been clearer that it was a "bring a dish" event.

Clearly that is the case, for the less cultured forumites who think it's ok to turn up empty handed.
Surely it's a given that you would bring something for everyone to share? Or is it just me?

Incidentally....the person in question brought along several others who also contributed nothing.
If they would like to brag some more, they should feel welcome to use this thread...
If they like to brag, presumably they don't mind who knows... So at the next BBQ, when they turn up and brag they have brought no food, just tell the loudest person you know, and ask them to pass the message on.

It's not just you. Anyone reading the full thread would see that various people offered/asked about what to bring. I have always naively assumed newbies would ask the same question themselves.

This person told me in confidence that they do this at every forum BBQ...I told them at the time I thought that was well out of order, but they don't care...just think it's hilarious that they scoff loads of food and bugger off.
If they do it at the next one, I will name and shame.
You know who you are, you have been warned.
Re: SP Forum BBQ policing...
Tell me who they are I'll nick them for theft...

We brought Burgers, sausages, rolls, butter some salad and wine and a bbq.
I wouldn't think of attending without bringing something too.
There is always going to be one or 2 who stumble across the BBQ and won't have anything
BUT to attend with malice aforethought knowing you are just gonna help yourself to everyone else's food, drink and goodwill.. AND then to brag about it.:angry::mad:
These pitiful users watch out I'll be looking out for you...
Re: SP Forum BBQ policing...
I didnt go as i wouldnt dream of attending empty handed:sad:
Note to self must remember something for next time:clap:

Maybe.
Normally I find that when I'm invited to a "bring a dish" meal, I get specifically told that: it's on the invite or suchlike. If I'm invited round to someone's house, I'd bring a gift of some sort (typically a bottle of wine, maybe chocolates), but not food.
Mind you, I'm really bad at this kinda thing.

You mean, when invited to someone's house, you don't turn up with a disposable barbecue and a packet of sausages?
Terrible behaviour Martin!
Re: SP Forum BBQ policing...
I remember mentioning to Matt that there seemed to be less food around than last time . . . .
and feeling a little aggrevated that while waiting for one of the burgers we had brought to cook through properly got taken off the BBQ by someone else
it must have been still red inside though
Re: SP Forum BBQ policing...
It's a bit difficult to 'police' people bringing stuff, as there are lots of areas to deposit it. i.e the 2 tables, the BBQ's, and the chalets used. I wouldn't be upset at not getting any of what I bought (in fact I only ate Alek's crumble and a very large sausage) but I supplied plenty of salad (shrubbery, as Limpy Tink would call it, before hurling it across the grass ) cheese, potatoes...etc. It is very informal and everything is there to share, there will be people that didn't know about the event and stumbled across it. They are more than welcome to join in, even though they didn't bring anything. To actually gloat about never bringing anything is a different matter, but I don't think that this will be exactly common, so let's not let the one or two individuals cause bad feeling at a very friendly social event.
