A modest suggestion, but can we have a single thread per weekender?

For example, looking at the "Social Events" area, I can see the following:

Who isn't going to Southport? (http://www.cerocscotland.com/forum/showthread.php?t=9656)
Southport 15-18 September 2006 (http://www.cerocscotland.com/forum/showthread.php?t=8569)
Southport Essential Items: (http://www.cerocscotland.com/forum/showthread.php?t=6149)
Female Southport Ticket Available (http://www.cerocscotland.com/forum/showthread.php?t=9645)
Spare place at Southport 2006 (http://www.cerocscotland.com/forum/showthread.php?t=9517)

Southport: travelling to... (http://www.cerocscotland.com/forum/showthread.php?t=9477)
Southport to Reading? (http://www.cerocscotland.com/forum/showthread.php?t=9283)
"Southport Weekend? (http://www.cerocscotland.com/forum/showthread.php?t=9064)
Southport - September 2006... (http://www.cerocscotland.com/forum/showthread.php?t=7816)

Now, call me grumpy, but 10 threads on a single weekender seems a bit, well, excessive.

Can we keep to a single thread? That way, not only do non-weekender-people only have 1 thread to ignore, but weekender people know where all the essential (!) information is.

What do people think?

On the whole I agree - though if someone has a spare ticket they are trying to get rid of, I think a thread is OK for that as the info would get buried in the main thread otherwise. And hopefully once it's been taken, the thread will die a natural death anyway.

But I'd like to see you get this idea to work!!

Whatever you say, Grumps

(now how could anyone pass up an invitation like that? :D )

(PS - you forgot to mention this thread (http://cerocscotland.com/forum/showthread.php?p=280635&posted=1) in your list... :na:)

Well if you were cunning you'd start a thread about it in the Technical Area and hope a Moderator with some time on their hands will stitch all the relevant threads together.......

How about a "Weekenders" forum section, instead?

Spoilsport... If you've ever been to southport then you'd understand why everyone was so excited...

Well, I have been. Twice now - last Sept and this June. I enjoyed it, too, on both occasions.

But I still don't understand the mass hysteria.

Now, call me grumpy...

Ok, Grumpy.

Seriously, looking at your list, you'd still get a few of them, even if the 'non-essential' ones were cut down on. And also seriously, why does it get your goat so much? Is it because you feel the forum is flooded, is it because you find it boring, is it because you're miffed that you couldn't go, is it the potential for cliquiness (that how you spell it??) which bothers you, is it all of the above... what is it exactly? Not that I'm nosy or anything.

there does seem to be an excess of southport september - and while a few of them could be merged - majority are valid - on selling tickets & organising specific lifts are easier done with their own threads other wise they would get lost in the general hub-bub

I'm not sure why they bother you SO much - I don't read about 70% of the threads in the social forums and don't read about 90% about of those in Chit-Chat. If you don't want to read them - don't it's not like anyone is forcing you to read them

Yes, Yes, Possibly, No, and See below.

Two reasons:

Quality control: excess threads clutter the forum, and it's not easy wading through all the junk to get to the good stuff.
Information use: duplication is a Bad Thing - people miss out on information, it gets repeated and duplicated, the place turns into one big Chinese whisper....
