Hi all you lovely Scots.

I'm looking to take a few days out of London, and am therefore considering a wee trip (with Daydreaming Diva, otherwise known as Mummy Licious) to Scotland next weekend - possibly Friday 11th to Wednesday 16th. Can anyone recommend where we might want to go, for dancing, socialising, meeting as many forumites as possible, etc? We were looking at Glasgow for the Saturday Party and for Jumping Jaks, and maybe Dundee on Monday if it's a doable journey, but there isn't anything on the calendar for Sunday, so we were thinking of looking for something at the Edinburgh festival - anyone want to join us?

Also, does anyone have any suggestions of somewhere nice to stay that won't be booked up this close, and would you recommend flying or coming up by train?

Thanks in advance, and look forward to seeing a few of you soon hopefully.

Oh, Miss Licious not the best weekend to choose to be away from the South. You will be missing just about the best dance weekend of the year - Twyford summer ball (and a full day of masterclasses), or MJC as an alternative, then Funky Lush Sunday afternoon speakeasy. I mean duh!!! What wos you thinkin' about gal!

In fact there are some folk from up north of the border coming down for the Twyford ball.:worthy:

Glasgow for the party and Jumpin' Jaks on Tuesday sounds good to me :D
Dundee is definitely do-able from Glasgow either by train or car. If coming by train I'd try to stay in the Invercarse itself and then travel back to Glasgow on Tuesday. In Glasgow, try the Argyll Hotel, not too far from either Glasgow venue or the Devoncove (where a lot of us stayed for the BFG).

If I don't make it to London (haven't done anything about that yet ) I'll be around and on holiday that week.

I'd say you have your dancing plans about right... Glasgow party and Glasgow Jumpin' Jacks will both be really good.

Dundee on the Monday isn't a bad idea, thought you might want to consider Graham Fox's West Coast Swing class (http://www.westcoastswingscotland.com/)... (I expect to be there – again, if I'm not in London.)

Not sure about accommodation – maybe try these places that were used during the BFGs...

Angus Hotel (http://www.angushotelglasgow.co.uk/), 970 Sauchiehall Street, Glasgow G3 7TH – 0141 357 5155.

Argyll Hotel (http://www.argyllhotelglasgow.co.uk/), 973 Sauchiehall Street, Glasgow G3 7TQ – 0141 337 3313.

Devoncove Hotel (http://www.devoncovehotel.co.uk/), 931 Sauchiehall Street, Glasgow, G3 7TQ – 0141 334 4000

Not sure either about flying vs the train... Guess it depends on whether you can get cheap flights...

OK, if you HAVE to go to Scotland............... some of us were at the Angus and Argyll hotels for the BFG with no complaints and reasonable prices.

And I met Graham Fox at WSM recently....:worthy: :worthy: :worthy: :respect: and Cristina is a phenomenal dancer so you must try and get to their class.

Have a dance for me with some of those gorgeous guys in Scotland. and hug for the equally gorgeous ladies.

How wonderful that you can quite happily go away for a dancing weekend with Mum - mind you I wouldn't have thought anyone would believe she is your mother

A couple of great looking girls, both great fun and fabby dancers - watch out Scotland :yeah:

Thanks everyone for help and advice and suggestions - just putting together an idea of what we want to do now. Why is there so much to do on a Tuesday?

Probably won't come up Friday, unless anyone has any tempting offers - but we will be at the Glasgow party on Saturday, any generous locals willing to be our translators for the evening?

And yes, Mary, you're right, there is some nice stuff down South that we are missing - but if we think like that, we will never leave London, and never experience anything different. I'm sure after Twyford you will all try very hard to make me regret not going, but I'm sure whatever we end up doing will be great fun.

Or maybe that's the idea :tears:

So.... have you put together an itinery, yet??

Do the fair people of Scotland know which venues to avoid, ahem, I mean visit??

Hi everyone, sorry I haven't reported back before.

Ok, here's the Diva-licious plan:

Flying in on Saturday, coming to Glasgow party, complete with green dress to loan to a certain Princess. Would love to meet/see as many of you there as I can, so I have easier decisions to make about the rest of the week! (anyone that does know me, please introduce me to people!)

Sunday, probably 'doing' Edinburgh, but I haven't had time to look at the festival and fringe schedules, although I hear a certain long-haired forumite is involved in it somehow (can't remember the details though  ). Although, if there's dancing going on somewhere else in the afternoon or evening, I'm sure we could be swayed.

Monday, it's a tossup between Dundee, Edinburgh and WCS I think - but will depend on what we decide for Tuesday, and who's going where.

Tuesday - who's bidding for us? At the moment we've had suggestions/invitations to Stirling, Edinburgh, Glasgow and Aberdeen, but funnily enough we can't do them all, so still undecided - anyone going to help us make up our minds?

Both Monday and Tuesday we're undecided on daytime excursions too, so if anyone has any suggestions, or wants to join us for lunch, that would be most welcome.

And Wednesday we're going home :tears: :tears:

I'm from Aberdeen and will be dancing at culter on tuesday with Piglet and Gadget probably. BUT...I would say that Aberdeen is probably a little far to go for a class night if your staying in Glasgow and flying home from there!

If I had the Choice I would go for Glasgow on the Tuesday! Great people....Well some of them!!!!

I'm free almost all day on Tuesday. Count me in for lunch!

Looking forward to seeing you again Tessa. :) (I'm definitely going to be in Glasgow – I've abandoned the London idea...)

Your plan looks good so-far...

Sunday – I don't know of any MJ dancing, but there's bound to be *something* somewhere in Edinburgh...

Monday – all good choices – I think Dundee will have the biggest crowd, though I've never been to Edinburgh on a Monday. WCS won't have lots of people there, and there doesn't tend to be much freestyle dancing, but it might be worth it if you want to experience Graham's teaching, and see how we do WCS in Scotland. :)

Tuesday... Having been to Stirling and Edinburgh on a Tuesday once or twice, I can definitely say that Glasgow beats the pants off the both of them put together. Most dancers, best atmosphere, finest teacher. But that's just my opinion. :)

I'm on holiday next week, so could be free to join you for whatever you decide to do during the daytime.

Looking forward to the weekend! :D

but Stirling is a nice place worth visiting and the DJ is far better ;) Mind you, if I was to go anywhere on Tuesday night - Glasgow is easier for me :)

Well you really know how to boast a girl's waning ego. Thank you so much.

Mind you, you don't mention how going on a dancing weekend with my daughter might cramp my style.

Lucky we girls stick together!!!
