Bruce Forsyth will be hosting a live dance extravaganza on BBC1 on Saturday 22nd July 2006. Everyone in the UK can take part and Anton Du Beke is touring the country looking for top notch dancers for the show.

It looks like they're also auditioning: http://www.bbc.co.uk/newtalent/allsorts/dancing/

Does anyone know what time its all on? I can find tons of information about what's happening where, but nothing about times. I'm off to Beach Boogie that day, but would be tempted to hang around to see it all and catch a late ferry.

:yeah: :really:
He very (not) cleverly said he would dance with anyone who asked but in fact did not social dance at all

Robert Cordoba (ex US ballroom champ) explained that not many ballroom pros can 'freestyle' well, so do not socialise to save their reputation

Have to say, although not one of my favourites, Brendon Cole did a great job dancing with all who asked at Dorking LeRoc (I think Mrs.UP had dance:respect:)

I would really encourage people to go along for the auditions, even if they can't attend the actual event. I went to the Edinburgh one on Tuesday and had a completely amazing day!

You can register a place or just turn up which is what I did - embarrassingly early - I assumed it would be swamped! Most people there were either dance students or teachers. A tiny bit intimidating to be surrounded by people in lycra doing the splits all over the place! But there were a few of us 'normal ' people there too...

There were only 5 men, and probably over 50 women which made it all a bit more challenging. We started off learning the cha cha and took it in turns to have go with a partner. Anton was great at explaining the steps, and giving us style points in a fairly simple way. He is also absolutely hilarious! We then moved onto the foxtrot for another 45 minute class. This was quite a bit harder as you are a lot more involved with your partner and we were mostly dancing by ourselves which meant that by the time you got a go to actually dance with someone, you were doing it full speed to music. I also felt completely ridiculous trying to give it my all while prancing round in a ballroom hold looking like some kind of deranged wannabe who had forgotten to pick up a partner at the beginning....

After that, 15 of us came back for a 'masterclass'. I was really chuffed to be picked - not just because it was a fantastic experience, but also because it meant that they were doing what they said they would do, which was take people who didn't necessarily have experience. I've only been doing MJ for 2 years and I did wonder if I was the token 'new dancer', but was pleased that they had at least thrown one of us in!

We did the quick step in the afternoon - and BOY was it quick! The pace of teaching was soooooooo much faster than any class i have ever been to, and the dance itself was pretty fast. They taught the routine they will actually be performing, although i think they dumbed it down a bit for us! At least there were more men to go round - 5 men, 10 women so we didn't look ridiculous quite as often. Although actually I think i looked pretty ridiculous for most of the afternoon! I had a run through of the whole routine with Anton, and I swear my feet did not touch the ground! It was a shame I was concentrating so hard on what i was doing as I couldn't really appreciate dancing with 'the man' as much as I would like to have done!

It was no surprise, and actually quite a relief that I didn't get picked for the final event. After a 2.5 hour masterclass I could bearly stand up, my hips still feel like they belong to an old lady, and I'd be more than happy to give them back to her! I think the pressure on the people doing it will be huge. Complete respect to the ones that got chosen. They picked a man and a woman as they aren't sure which they need at the moment. Both of the choices were the right ones. I have my favourite, but I'll keep that to myself. It's amazing how quickly the bitchy vibes work their magic..... It's a world i wouldn't want to get too deeply involved in. Having said that, I loved every minute and wouldn't have missed it for the world.

There are still dates coming up in Ipswich, Exeter and Cardiff, and I would really recommend going down and having a go. At the absolute very least you get a class with Anton - and you might end up dancing to the world in Trafalgar Square. Have a look on the BBC website for dates and go and have a go!

Good luck!

:yeah: Go for it!! You really will learn something different to bring into your MJ.

I took the day off work yesterday to attend the audtions at Blackpool. I got through to the final 20 odd and did a master class in the evening. (Poor steve hung around the pleasure beach waiting for 2 hours!! They did run overtime. ) There were a lot of good dancers there, but only those who already had ballroom training. I'm not sure exactly what they are looking for as a few girls I know who are ballroom trained didn't even get passed the first audition! I heard what they were looking for is someone who doesn't necessarily have the experience in ballroom/latin, but somebody who also has potential to learn something different. I thought this was an excellent idea as this would prove to the public that you don't have to already be a dancer to become professional. This programme will encourage more people to get off their backsides and give it a go. However, saying that, the one they picked at the end had been doing ballroom since the age of 2!   not sure that's going to get the correct message through!

I also got to dance with Anton (who give me a really nice compliment on my dancing:awe: .... he is such a womaniser isn't he! ) and also danced the fox trot with Jodie from the first series of SDF. Had a long chat with her (mainly about linedancing as we both do it and know the same people) Really nice person and still got her feet firmly on the ground. :respect:

Anyway, it was a great day out. I certainly learnt something from that and was quiet happy to have got the far. That's what I wanted. Now all I have to do is teach Steve this very intense routine and maybe add it to our routine! :waycool:

The only down side to the auditions was the size of the floor (gosh their was no room to swing a bloody cat!) and I also got the heel of my shoe trapped inbetween the tiles and it came right off!!! Good job I had a spare pair!

Sometime you couldn't see what Anton was doing when he decided to come down onto the floor and demo some of the moves, as peoples head were just getting in the way all the time. Everybody struggled as a result of this and of course the floor.

There were only 5 guys and 15 girls, so we were split into groups of three and had to share. What I think Anton should have done was make sure the same girls didn't keep trying to grab the two best guys there. I ended up with one of the good ones (who got through to the TV stage) and then two who just couldn't grasp the routine. I just carried on without them.. but felt stupid doing that.. and don't they liked it either. We had to stay in time everybody else and go to the music.

Oh well, great experience, and I recommend it to anybody. Just go along for the fun and the experience rather than going to win, as at the end of day, they are only looking for one girl and one boy from each venue.

There are 6 venues across the UK. At the end of the auditions, all 12 go to audition in London on the 19th and again, are cut down to 6, leaving 3 boys and 3 girls. Those are the ones that then get to partner a professional on the live show.

Guess I'll have to get somebody to hit that little red button for me, as I won't be in to see it with being at WSM!
