Why are dance web sites so poor ?

Ok its an old thread but I want a rant

I want to go to Cheshunt tonight

Can I find an address or postcode anywhere on the ceroc metro site ??

It tells me about a Friday meltdown but not where ?

It has this on the site main page which I assume is not the address of the Meltdown place ???? and is 2 months out of date

Click on the poster to see details of the fabulous Gangsters and Molls night, 29th April.

I think that's a postcode Stewart:)

I think Stewart's point was that it's the wrong venue - hence wrong postcode!

(BI truth #1: Wrong information is worse than no information....)

Ok rep points to anyone who can give the correct post code. Need some agreement here

3 lives depend on it but you don’t get the ‘free ice lolly’ ?

Ok rep points to anyone who can give the correct post code. Need some agreement hereWell the address Tiggerbabe gave does seem to be the same as the one at the bottom of this page on the CerocMetro website. (http://www.cerocmetro.com/classes.html):flower: So I think Tiggerbabe's got a good claim to that rep.

Edit: Unless there's two Cheshunt venues, that is...

I can confirm that TiggerBabe is correct. Checked it out on GoogleMaps (http://maps.google.co.uk/maps?f=q&hl=en&q=EN8+9AA&ie=UTF8&om=1&ll=51.703131,-0.034858&spn=0.004887,0.011845)and it looks right, have been to Wolsey Hall many times, and will be popping along tonight. so see you there. Cannot recall but there was a load of delays due to work on the M25 near Cheshunt, so you might want to alter your route if the roadworks have not finished.

The cerocmetro site isn't the best; but then, a lot of ceroc franchise sites are less than superb. Look at Ceroc Central

Ceroc London's is OK, but the colour scheme's a bit painful.

Ceroc Chilterns is OK now, but it used to be pretty awful too.

And frankly, ceroc.com is getting ridiculous - 2 clicks to get to anything resembling a front page, what on earth is all that about? And what's the difference between a local and national event? I've never been able to work that out. Boy, I could go on for hours. :innocent:

I know, how about nominations for good Ceroc sites?

I'm sure that there's always room for improvement, e.g. the map for the Golden Lion Hotel seems a little awry. Ditto the Lovat Hotel.

Why is there such a confusion of Utopia sites...?

There is http://www.utopiadance.co.uk (http://www.utopiadance.co.uk) which in turn links to the Evesham site
http://www.cerocgroove.co.uk/utopia.tpl (http://www.cerocgroove.co.uk/utopia.tpl) - although this is a little out of date ("Our next Utopia is Friday 30th March 2007"), and I couldn't find a link back from the Evesham site to the other one.

Recently there's also been added http://www.dance-utopia.com (http://www.dance-utopia.com) which links to both of the other two, but neither of them link back to it. It also appears to have a "Dance Calendar" but this doesn't include many of the dates from the other two sites.

(There's also http://www.utopiadance.com (http://www.utopiadance.com) which appears to be some cheerleaders in America. ;) )

Dance Demon is correct, it is the Post Code I have on my list - if that was wrong there would be lots of people telling me (as well as Ceroc Metro themselves)

Why is there such a confusion of Utopia sites...?Bit of a mess isn't it?

It's all about different franchisees. The 'cerocgroove.co.uk' site belongs to Ceroc Worcester, the 'dance-utopia.com' site belongs to Ceroc Central and the 'utopiadance.co.uk' site belongs to Val, Dave and I.

Each franchisee is running their own operation with their own websites and their own financial interests. The Utopia brand and concept is pretty much available now for any franchisee nationwide to use if they so wish.

Because of this autonomy it is very unlikely that there will ever be a central Utopia website listing all events across the country. So on that assumption I can assure you it'll get a lot worse in the future.

I can also assure you that the Twickenham event is and always will be the best....:waycool:

Check the range of T-shirt slogans here (http://www.utopiadance.com/np06.html) - 'Whatever It Takes' would be a good UK Utopia - Twickenham Franchise motto. That or 'You gotta want it'

Be ready to click away if anyone walks into the office whilst you're looking though. Browsing sites full of school-age cheerleaders can be a tough one to explain

Suddenly I realise how cool my job is. Projects the charity I work for has been or is involved with include a school age cheerleading project, an advice service for male and transgender sex workers (now *that's* a startling website :what: ), and an organisation that delivers sex education/advice through outrageous events.

Oh, er, dance websites. Yeah.

As Ceroc is a franchise organisation, it does seem bizarre to me that there isn't a 'one-stop' accurate place to collect information. As Utopia is part of the Ceroc empire, it seems odd that the events shouldn't be listed on the main Ceroc website

Lynda's list (:respect: ) is frequently the most up-to-date for events in the south. I've also found uk-jive quite useful (and think that they do expect 'advertisers' to update reasonably regularly or risk having their listings pulled).

Doesn't Ceroc have some kind of process for collecting information from it's own franchisees so that it can ensure its own information is up-to-date? If not, why not? - it appears to be able to control so much else

Spooky that this thread should be resurrected at the moment ...

Just been on the Ceroc Fusion website looking up the postcode for Gentabout to go dancing while he's in Norwich tonight. OK, it may not be impossible to find the postcode, but it wasn't easy, and the overall layout was  !

Thanks for your reply.

I don't feel reassured by it, though...:tears:

There must be a better way, and I'm sure someone's already invented it somewhere.

Actually what SF says is not strictly true...

The Utopia Dance - Frame (http://www.utopiadance.co.uk) site will become the main info site for ALL UTOPIA events across the country. The idea is that any individual will be able to access the events page and then be able to click on a link that is closest to the area that they wish to visit.

Now, whether this just opens another page on the main site or it clicks through to a franchisee's own site will depend on the franchisee in question. If they have the resources to construct their own UTOPIA site or to integrate the UTOPIA details into their main site then it will link through - if they don't, we'll help by adding it to our main site with the relevant info on booking and dates being available there.

Where the confusion has come about in the past is that the CMS system on our main site has not been working as it should. This has meant that we have had to rely on other people to upload changes and this hasn't exactly gone very smoothly. It's been very frustrating to say the least!

In any event, this will change over the coming month as we are integrating an improved CMS system. This should mean that new events will be integrated more quickly and that the info displayed will be up to date.

Well, that's the plan.... I'm sure there will be some teething problems in the changeover, but we'll be on the case to make sure it's up and running as quickly as possible.
