View Full Version : Weekend Extras

Weekenders now supply a number of "extras"

Private Lessons
Massage
Shoes
Cothes
Hair & Make-Up

1. Private Lessons
This has been going on for quite a while and is very sucessfully in the States, however, relatively new to the UK, Franco started it in Jan 04 (NIgel Anderson's idea) and it has gone from strength to strength.

2. Massage
Most weekenders supply this - prices appear to be the same

3 & 4 Shoes & Clothes
Most shoe suppliers sell clothes as well - usually a good selection of shoes, not so sure about the clothes

5. Hair & Make-Up
Not sure if I have seen this on a MJ weekend - it is very popular at Rhythm Riot (especially for the men) for obvious reasons

What do you think of what we have and any ideas for any more ?

Just thought of another "Music/DVDs etc"

We sell Dance DVDs at MJ events - what about CDs ?

What do you think of what we have and any ideas for any more ? I have had a private lesson (Camber last Nov) and it was very useful as I knew what I wanted to work on, Minnie helped me find an appropriate teacher :flower: and it was very focused.

Dance shoes - because there isn't much of a range here and I like to try shoes on before deciding to buy, the dance shoe stalls have been very useful for me, I guess if you have a good range of shops you can go to, then it doesn't matter so much. (Eg I like Freed, they seem to fit me well, but to my knowledge no-one in Belfast or near Belfast stocks Freed.)

1. Private Lessons
I would quite like to see "open" private lessons - perhaps a couple/individual subsidised by 'spectators'. For someone that dosn't really know what to work on or look for, it could produce some valuable insight.

2. Massage
A good idea and very practical.

3 & 4 Shoes & Clothes
If you don't know where to shop for clothes (esp mens) or feel stupid going into shops where everyone looks embrionic, then I think that the clothes are a good idea.

5. Hair & Make-Up
.. unsure. I'm not one for self-pampering... iI think that it would be more popular with a younger crowd.

"Music/DVDs etc"
yea, but with the likes of I-tunes and music stores that have everything, what could it provide that is unique?
Specialist DVDs I like - perhaps a selection from the organiser and all the teachers as a starting point? Past competitions?

How about music memorabilia? Photos & artwork?

.........
Jordon & Tatiana did that in Boston - it was fab

We all sat in a two circle of chairs - the inner row sat the people who wanted to be selected.

They picked the first couple and then gave them a track to dance to....

First they commented on the bad dance habits the lady had picked up, they corrected them and then openned it up to all of us to ask if we had similar problems and invited those people to demonstrate.

Then the got a second female volunteer to dance with the first selected man, they danced a track and they did the same with the man........ then a second man danced with the second lady etc etc

It was an excellant class, I learnt quite a bit from it :worthy:

BTW I still buy CDs  :innocent:

How about a 'Tuck Shop' selling choc bars etc ??

Dance portraits (have been offered at Rock Bottoms) and dance photography (at the Southport weekenders).

I am sure that I have been to one of the JiveTime weekenders where they offered a service where you could be videoed while dancing so you could have a see what you look like. I think it would be a good service if the finished article could be available almost immediately (like from these video cameras that record direct onto DVD) and in a samll sectioned off area of the main dance area (to appeal to those impulse buyers amongst us).

I guess it wasn't economically worth it for the service provider because I haven't seen it offered again.

They had a video booth at the Ceroc Champs a few years ago, which did just that, although on vt, rather than dvd.

Seeing as so many of these weekenders have themed evenings, I sometimes think a fancy dress stall would be useful.

Otherwise, yes to all of the above.

15 mins with one of those foot-spa machines. (Obviously would need a spray disinfectant & fresh water for each person.) I'd happily pay say £1 to keep my feet going a bit longer.

Ooooh, an opportunity to make money at the BFG and Southport! :D

£2 if fizzy foot-reviving whatnots are added to the water!;)

Trust UP to come up with a suggestion like that!:what:

What about a stall selling costume jewellery specially selected/designed for dancers? And/or a stall selling fashion clothes suitable for dancing (ie. not just costumes or dancewear modified to look like fashion wear)? Most major dance events in the USA will have vendors selling these types of merchandise. In fact, that is one of the reasons for attending such events!

Brilliant idea! I'm always in need of a few spare rhinestones etc. Could come in handy for repairs after comps. Ah ha... another idea. A repairs section where they sew holes, splits, replace buttons, stones etc etc.

I think a stall selling all the weekender essentials might do well

foot spray,
emergency plasters
safety pins
Sewing kits
body spray/deoderant
Energy boosting glucose tablets,
energy boosting snacks,
tired leg & sore feet treatments,
hangover treatments
Herbal sleeping remedies
re-hydrating drinks
buzz gum
Blister spray
Shoe insoles
Wet wipes
Bananas
Massage oil
Ibuprofen gel

:)

foot spray,

Yep nothing worse than someone taking their shoes off next to you who has smelly feet.

emergency plasters

Can't think of many ways you would cut yourself. Think a plaster cast is better. Mind you, it's handy if your shoes dig into you.

safety pins

Always asking for a safety pin... that's because I wear too many low cut over lapping tops and one side always goes east. So annoying!

Sewing kits

Yep.

body spray/deoderant

Yep. Lots of smelly men out there!

Energy boosting glucose tablets,

Wish they'd have had that at Blackpool. What about high energy drinks?

energy boosting snacks,

eat the whole lot.

tired leg & sore feet treatments,

Or foot massage. mmmmm

hangover treatments

Could have done with that yesterday morning. Do many get sloshed at these weekenders though?

Herbal sleeping remedies

:yeah:

Shoe insoles

Now this is a good un'. Nothing worse than feeling the insoles creasing up. Can be painful.

Bananas

 why?

Massage oil

Who's going to do the massage?

Ibuprofen gel

:yeah:

You've took a while to think all this through! Can't think of anymore now.

Its funny what are 'essential items' for a weekender

Things Id never consider when im at home like plasters. I don’t say 'god ive run out of plasters' lets run to the shop and get some

Well ive decided not to 'buy' essential items any more and we all know whos chalet to pop around to if we need anything

I’m sure my eye lashes grow 5 times faster at weekenders (so don’t forget the scissors !)

After struggling to find anything in the snack shops at Camber and S'Port that wasn't processed, artificial junk I would like to see a stall selling fresh and dried fruit, unsalted nuts, flapjacks and good quality chocolate. Maybe smoothies and fruit juices as well.

I did a video clinic at Storm, and got the impression that we were supposed to be able to take the DVD away with us ... still haven't got it!

:yeah: :yeah: What a good idea. They'd clean up! I'm sure Butlins wouldn't let such people on site.

Well I will just have to remember to stock up at Tescos on the way to Southport.
