I will be in Toronto next week (on business). Anyone know of any good places to catch a class or dance while I am there? I'll give anything a try - ECS, WCS, Lindy, Salsa, Tango, ......

So far I have found a dance studio offering anything you could possibly want but it's shut for the week I am there and a WCS weekend workshop with Sylvia Sykes that has just been cancelled! :tears:
So, any suggestions gratefully received.....

Hiya Janet

Try these:

http://dancing.org/tsds/ (Lindy)
http://www.interlog.com/~cedar/ (English country dancing)
http://www.tosalsa.com/ (Salsa and Latin)
http://www.rscdstoronto.org/ (Scottish Country dancing !!!)
http://www.israelidance.com/session/sessions/display.html?dbkey=32 (Israeli folk dancing)

Steve

PS. I did find quite a lot of references to lap dancing. But thought that you probably wouldn't be interested in those! :D

Please don't be offended if I ask this but (roughly) how old / young are you and which sid of T'rono will you be?

I know of a social dance club that aims to play music to cover as many dances as possible at least once in night!!! but the youngest attendees are probably in their 40s.

(Not that there's anything wrong with being that old before you all shout!!! )

It's out Mississauga way so if you were in the centre of town it would be a ride on the GO Train and a taxi.

In town too there are quite a lot of converted (some more so than others) warehouses in the area kind of north west of the Skydome that are not clubs exactly but big airy bars with big dance floors and you will find that a LOT of the dancing that goes on is salsa based and almost ALL is boy/girl with contact!!!!.I have yet to see 3 girls a handbag and 6 Bacardi Breezers dancing together in T'rono.

I'll mail the family and see where's hottest this month!!

Thanks for those Steve. The tsds site is where I found out about all the things that are not happening while I am there. English Country Dancing? I know I said I’d try anything but I lied! :really:

I was really hoping someone might be able to give a personal recommendation?

Janet

p.s. Lapdancing! I guess you need a partner for that one……

I'm sure a dancer of your calibre could make a hanky on your head and bells attached to your clothing look stylish

You seem to have ducked Chicklet's question

Hi Chicklet,

Now that's what I call a personal recommendation! Though from what I have heard there is nothing much hot in Toronto at the moment!!!!!

I'm a thirty something (just :D ).
My hotel is in town - Bloor St West near the University (I hope).
Anything within reach of the TT or a taxi ride would be great. Mississauga is probably a bit far out for during the week anyway.

No I haven't - see above - just that her reply came in as I was typing. Just like yours did. :yum:

Janet,

the name of the warehousey dance bar joint place I have been to and enjoyed is "Easy and the Fifth" 221 Richmond St W so a short taxi ride south from where you're staying.

www.easyandthefifth.com shows a few pictures but is more geared towards dining really (I've never eaten there but it looks pretty good)

also might want to take a look at www.tosalsa.com for classes?

have a good time and don't forget to have a dog on the street for me!!

Thanks for the info :). I'll let you know if I manage to get there. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that the work goes smoothly so I can get out to play in the evenings!

OK. I can't find the right thread so I'll post this here instead.

I have a new nomination for the friendliest dancers. Just back from Toronto. FANTASTIC!!! :D :D :D What amazingly friendly people and some great dancers too. I'd have to say that they beat even a Scottish welcome. (But then I am Scottish, so perhaps that doesn't count?)

One other thing - also should be on another thread - we danced to live bands every night and I thoroughly enjoyed it. Granted the rhythm might not be as regular for beginners but when you want to play there's nothing to beat it (no pun intended!). Would be interested in more live events here. But would they work here? Not sure.
