Always wanted to do a poll thing and had this in response to an enquiry to Ceroc Central about the next Daventry freestyle

Yes, the next one is 8th Apr…BALLROOM BLITZ…details on website, you can book now if you go to workshop page…

Fliers out this w/e with more info…

Basically professional latin American couple doing classes all day followed by theme night, where they’ll give top notch demo (8pm to 3am - we’re having a second room now for Blues too)…should be a great night…

I presume the night is 8 til 3 and not the demo

I'll be there, will you?

Sounds good  .

I've said yes in principle, but I'd like to know who is DJing especially the blues DJ(s) (Greg,Marc or John Baker would be my faves). Do you know who is DJing Rob?

The Cabaret sounds interesting, but will there be 5 more interruptions to the freestyle? I do hope not.

Don't know ZW. I think Rob Ambridge is their regular one but guess there's a good chance Marc might be in the Blues Room given he's local.

As it goes on til 3, we might, just might, finally get to dance together

Apparently it's Hannes and Amy, formerly of CerocLondon's Nosequins evening. Very good teachers by all accounts, and they brush up quite nicely too  .

I'd love to come, but I think I've used up my quota of being taken outside of London by ESG on our last trip to Daventry, and there's very little point in me going on my own - but I'll see what I can do.

Not sure if you are just having a sneaky dig at ESG there but if you really are stuck for a lift I would be happy to provide one. Of course this depends on where abouts in London you live :nice:

stuff, up thereCan I just point out, because more than one person already thinks I'm being silly by saying there's no point in going on my own, that I was talking about the daytime workshops in ballroom that I don't want to go to without a partner, not the evening freestyle. I just don't think it's fair on the couples that go to these workshops for there to be spare women floating around, and ballroom/latin is not something I'm comfortable with learning to lead yet.

But I might still make it up there for the freestyle, if all the persuasion and kind offers of lifts keep coming  .

It's a whole philosophy for training horses (and donkeys) it's about not breaking their will but being more pssive and making them want to do what you want them to do....It's lovely.

http://www.amazon.co.uk/exec/obidos/ASIN/0715318365/qid=1143031688/sr=2-2/ref=sr_2_3_2/202-2945439-2575842 (http://http://www.amazon.co.uk/exec/obidos/ASIN/0715318365/qid=1143031688/sr=2-2/ref=sr_2_3_2/202-2945439-2575842)

For example after breathing on them a little ..... To make them follow you, you walk away from them, if they don't follow you, you continue to walk away . You never chase after them. If they begin to follow you reward them by looking back at them a little.

The Nicholas Cage book The Horse Whisperer is just a story based on a guy that does it.

I have a dog phobia so I bought the Dog Whisperer book in an effort to understand them better. It's all very well in principle but when confronted by an untrained yappy aggressive dog I still go to pieces.

I expect there's a People Whisperer book by now....It would work well on a dance night methinks

Anyway I thought you were applying Horse Whispering principles to ESG, driving slowly away with his girlfriend...

Men in white coats me thinks !!

The offer of a lift actually goes for anyone in north/west London or Surrey. I dont plan on doing the workshops though. Just the evening freestyle.

Have you ever seen that bit on Crocodile Dundee where he kind of hypnotises that big bull-like creature and it falls asleep. Apparently thats what all Aussies can do

You are right Nicholas Evans, I have read the book too.

Apparently if you grab their front legs and sharply pull them wide apart you can kill them. I wouldn't actually do that, but it is one of the thoughts that I keep in my head to stop myself feeling so helpless and scared.

The Ceroc central website is useless, only two freestyle are listed and the Ballroom Blitz info is hidden under Workshops.

I will phone Emma Pettitt tomorrow and ask some questions like:

Who are the DJ's in both rooms?
What time does the blues room start?
How many interruptions to the freestyle with there be and when will they take place exactly?

Any more questions I should ask?

Yes my dad & brothers told me that about the legs splitting on the dogs....sounds a bit nasty though...cant imagine how the owners will turn (Vic Meldrew) :) I also found out that they do not like newspaper touching their nose...so next time your walking and you get approached by one nasty pitbull....have a rolled up newspaper to hand and smack their nose with it!
Or you could try the other approach.:D .. kick the damn rat and run for your life before the owners see

The other question you could ask is...ask all your excellent dancer's to come along as you do :respect: and you dont even have to flutter your eyelids :flower:

Anyway hope to see you soon :flower:

Erm, this a bit of an urban myth, what actually happens if you try this is that you:

a) pi$$ it off

and

b) rapidly bring its teeth closer towards you.

It is unlikely that a normal person could cause sufficient injury to a large, or strong dog to stop its attack, by pulling the front legs apart.

On a theoretical basis, that is.

& samba - with the gorgeous & talented Amy Bennett &
Hannes Emrich (UK Latin American champions), £25

2) Evening event, £10

** includes a mesmerising Latin American dance show performed by Amy
and
Hannes
** in addition to the Main Hall action, we provide a 'Blues' room
(Saxon
Suite)
** dress… think ”Strictly Come Dancing” & watch “Strictly Ballroom”
for
ideas

"Sunday Shakedown": again, two elements, with both taking place in
the
Saxon Suite...

1) Specialist classes, midday - 2.30 pm: funky jive, smooth moves,
£12

2) Tea Dance, £8

** purely freestyle with Rob & Marc

details
available upon request
- Saturday evening - hot & cold snacks are available from the coffee
shop

From then on it is freestyle all the way 'till 3AM.

THERE ARE NO OTHER INTERRUPTIONS!!

The Blues room (Saxon Suite) will be open for ballroom practice from 10 -11ish probably just a CD playing. From 11ish it will be blues from Marc and Rob.

I cannot see how it will be packed

A. It hasn't really been heavily advertised (apart from on here)

B. We have two rooms, the enormous gymnasium room AND the Saxon Suite (used for Polar Freezstyle).

If it is packed I will eat my ZSH :really:

It wasn't packed, which was fanstastic. We could all relax and dance those slightly bigger moves that don't often get done  .

For me that was the best Ceroc freestyle night at Daventry ever. The music really flowed especailly Marc set in the main room that was an amazing blend of tracks, I just couldn't leave.

Last night had it all, loads of fab and friendly dancers, there was space, the floors were clean and smooth , the rooms were cool. There were soft chairs and a sofa in the blues room (nice extra). Marc's blues set was also brilliant, I really felt as though I was in a blues room on a weekender, the night really did develop that special atmosphere. Big thanks to everyone who travelled a very long way to be there.:flower: Thanks to Marc for playing well beyond the end time, in true blues room style.

Hannes and Amy's cabaret was totally awesome :worthy: :worthy: .

Well done Emma Pettitt and team

Oh I finally danced with GobD :worthy: . It was so entrancing  I totally forgot to checkout his socks...did anyone else see them?

For the record, next time I think it will be packed.

- Marc carrying o his set till around 4am  Fair play hun thank you:clap: :worthy:
- Great dacers ad lovely people
- Drink prices resonable

Bad Points For me: -
- Hmmmmmmmmmmmmm thinking
- Nope can't think of any :D

:yeah: to all the above.

This night was unique in my eyes for the simple reason that it was as close to a weekender night as I think is possible without it actually being a weekender in the usual sense. A 4am finish!!! I would happily drive for hours to get to a freestyle that finished at 4am

Totally awesome night. :worthy:

I was in the same boat as ZW. While Marc was playing in the main hall I just couldnt leave to go onto the blues room. In the end I just followed him round

As has been mentioned it wasnt absolutely packed but that made it so much more bearable. The entire atmosphere of the place made the drive so worthwhile. Needless to say if i am around for the next one I wont hesitate in going again.

Thankyou to everyone who helped organise this and to all those I danced with.

It was a last minuet decision, but more than worth the 3 hours sleep for the two nights beforehand.

Well what can I say, having never been to a Daventry event, and after so many PM's and text's telling me I should go, I succumbed to the pressure, it was a hard decision  the atmosphere was as close to a weekender as it could get, thank you Mark for some more fantastic music, and Rachel for yet another wonderful dance

The floors were lovely to dance on the, added big cushion seats in the blues room, nice touch made it feel more comfy and I little more intermit.

Taz and the truth and dare, well what can I say “that girl has got smultz” :respect:

It was so nice to see so many gorgeous people to dance with, and it was as always such fun.

Thank you to the Witty hotel, and the Cruella restaurant for your hospitality.

And a big, thank you to Fletch, for all the driving “what a star”.

The organizers :respect: what else could I say.

The cabaret; Hans and Amy wonderful if only I could move like that.

Had a wonderful time will defiantly go again, subject to the boring thing called work commitments.

WOW WOW WOW, What a fantastic weekend! Had a house full of forumites for the pre dance SDF viewing. But i don't actually think we watched an awful lot of it!! Got to Daventry for 9ish. just got my shoes on and started dancing immediately, danced through til 4am only missing out on a few tracks. The music! How does Marc consistently please us!! He's the god of DJing :worthy: :respect: Really enjoyed the cabaret, boy can they wiggle their hips! Probably wasn't as busy as the usual Daventry freestyles but this turned out to be a good thing. Loads of space to dance.
After just 3 hours of sleep and lots of laughing  we ventured back for the tdance. A bit concerned when we arrived as there were only about 10 people there, some more turned up and it ended up being a lovely way to finsh off the weekend, dancing, chilling on the sofas and great company
I love you all. Thanks Dirty D and Rapheal for subbing for hubby and giving me my cuddles too.:flower:

An excellent night. Great to see so many forumites out in full force and revving it up on the dance floor!

Left early as my friend hadn't been before wanted to drive and needed a companion. She was tired by 2am a teacher whose just broken up so like cinderellas we fled before we turned into pumpkins!

If any one found any keys can you PM me Imogen lost hers!

I really felt as though I danced well and my dancing has been off for months so that was especially rewarding.

Perhaps the ballroom and tango is finally paying off!

Well what a T dance that was!!

I felt even more like being on a weekender that the Saturday night blues room. Marc took us on an another delicious musical journey, never once breaking the precious blues room bubble, how does he do it? :worthy: :worthy: :worthy:

For me, without a doubt Marc's DJing MADE that weekend......and the sleepover guests , oh and the sofa, and the creme eggs at the end    . Amazing how something so sickly can at the right moment be so delicious.

We had dancers visiting from Kent, Australia, South London, all over the place, but where were the locals? Something went badly wrong with the advertising this time. At the T dance I had enough space when dancing with Fred to stand still and swing him round in a circle in his wheelchair, very fast. It was fantastic, but I am positive that we won't have such luxury next time, not when word gets out.

Emma tells me Marc has been booked for the next Daventry Weekender (July 1st/2nd) 'Dirty Dancing theme'. Marc will be teaching cuban blues workshop during the day and there will be a blues room just like this time. The format of just one class worked well on Saturday, so in future there will be just one class  . Oh and in July the the 'Dirty Dancing' competition will be judged on connection and musicality, rather than whatever it was before....

Big THANK YOU to Emma Pettitt. She's a real star.

And if Alex is the king of spin then she's the Queen - when I had the pleasure of dancing with her yesterday she span so fast I couldn't offer the hand out quickly enough when she'd finished. Fortunately she's so good at ad-libbing that it didn't matter.

Of the whole weekend I enjoyed Saturday more than Sunday. I felt a few more people would have been welcome yesterday but the absence of marketing for the Tea Dance has already been mentioned and was no doubt a major factor in the low turnout. The music was great but I felt so tired that my dancing was uninspired and uninspiring and this gave me little incentive to get off my backside and ask people to dance. Was entertaining enough to sit out and watch other people dancing especially Marc with Cruella :respect:

Nice to meet some new forum folk on Saturday especially, finally, ZW. It was worth the wait

Have to say the cabaret left me cold - no doubting the technical skills and the fact they are far better dancers than I will ever be but it just didn't excite me at all.
