View Full Version : Spine tingles...

There used to be a radio 4 programme with this name.

It was about those pieces of music that, when you hear them, send tingles down your spine. I don't know about everyone else, but for me it's a wash of emotion that seems to originate in my spine and flood my body. (No smutty comments, please!)

I'll start the ball rolling.

1) Judie Tzuke - Stay with me till dawn - the final chord
2) Eagles - Desperado - Doolin'Dalton-Desperado(Reprise) "stole your dreams and paid you with regret...Desperado"
3) Bizet - Carmen - Intermezzo from Act III - timpani climax about 4/5 the way through
4) (new one) Gustavo Santaolalla - The wings - (Final waltz from Brokeback Mountain) - when the rest of the band join the guitarist

If we all swap, maybe we might each discover new 'spine tinglers' for ourselves.

I've got many of these; to be honest, too many to list here, or to remember offhand. But here's some of the ones I can think of without even having to think about it:

Non-classical:
1. Joni Mitchell - Case of You
2. Daniel Bedingfield - Draw You
3. Alison Krauss - Could You Lie (And Say You Love Me)
4. Sting - Moon Over Bourbon Street
5. Evanescence - Hello

Classical:
1. Elgar's Cello Concerto, 1st movement (especially du Pre's version)
2. Barber's Adagio for Strings
3. The G minor Adagio that begins Bach's set of Sonatas and Partitas for solo violin.
4. John Williams' theme to 'Schindler's List'
5. Ravel 2nd Piano Concerto, 2nd movement
