No, it's nothing to do with Cilla! But a place to chat about those venues or events that you've been to, where you're expectations were completely wrong.
I got a big surprise last night, with no Monday Lush to go to, I reluctantly headed off to Ceroc in Woking. I wasn't looking forward to it, mostly because I so rarely like the music there, but I came away at the end of the night with that "Wow!" feeling. It was mostly one great track after another, and although I needed a rest I just couldn't stop dancing.
The music did feel a bit "retro" with very few recent tracks, but when each track gets your feet going, does that matter? At the end of the night I even went up on stage to tell the DJ how much I enjoyed the music, something I've never done before there.
Of course it could have just been me & the mood I was in, I even enjoyed dancing to the Mavericks!
So do others have experiences of coming away from an event feeling completely different about it from when they went in?

I've also had this experience. There was one venue here up North, that I used to go to all the time and absolutely loved it...then it changed. None of the regular dancers would turn up, the music went crap and the atmosphere just wasn't the same. I sworn I would never go there again, but one night, there was no where to go apart from this one venue. Anyway, we thought we'd give it another go and to my surprise, it went back to the way it was before!! Great music, all my friends there and it was packed out! The atmosphere was just great and I didn't want the night to end!

Yup, I had a similar experience on Saturday.
I went to Marco's in Edinburgh for the first time in god-knows-how-many-months, and the first thing I thought upon entering the room and hearing the music, was "Ah, yes, this is why I never bother coming here!":( But then I started dancing, and catching up with sooooooooooooo many dancers I've not seen for ages, and I had a brilliant time! All of a sudden the music didn't matter so much any more (although I did actually tell a couple of guys to come back for the next track, as I couldn't bring myself to dance to the track that was being played....), and I had a fabulous night!
Huge thanks to all the lovely guys who made my night so enjoyable!
Oh, and Dave (Hancock) - I shall get a pair of boxing gloves for next time we dance......

I also made the trek to Woking and enjoyed the music more than I expected.
The general feel of the tempo was faster than I would normally prefer but I had enough shirts to sweat my way to the last dance safely.
I also had a good dance to the Mavericks..:yeah:

Given the lack of Monkey Lush, I went to the O2 Centre last night, with a non-forumite friend. Great classes with Mark and Simone Harding, who also had the lovely Katie, formerly of Peterborough, demo-ing. Tessalicious was there with her posse, and Mie and Dancing Teeth were present too!

So no Mush last night we made a trip to guildford, a place where we started this thing called CEROC many moons ago! The venue - sardines in a sauna. The music - as it was left in 2004, i think there were 3 new tracks. 'Sadly' no Mavericks! It was nice to see old faces - there were a few I remember being good that did not did not disappoint and there were others well not as good. The steps people take in such a small space - surely they can see the people around them. Wish I could be more positive!
Please Twk dont leave me with a free monday evening!:innocent:

Yup, I had a similar experience on Saturday.
I went to Marco's in Edinburgh ... I, too, was surprised at how much I enjoyed it. Wasn't so keen on a lot of the music last month, and I knew a few of the folks I quite often see in Edinburgh were going to be missing...
But the combination simply of lots of music I could dance to, plus a whole bunch of great dancers meant I had a great night.
Really good to see you, Angie, and all the other Dundee girls. :flower:
Cheers! :waycool:
(Oh, and here's my blog (http://ducasi.org/blog/2006/02/26/edinburgh-party-night/) entry for the night... :D)

Are we all being too nice on here as usual, has no one had a surprise regarding having a dull evening when they expected a great one? I suppose it is less likely that you'll have a totally disastrous evening when you expect a great one, because there are always redeeming factors.
So I shall be brave, and name a session which certainly didn't live up to expectations, and it feels like blaspheming, because it was the last t-jive!
The thing is I can't really pin down why it didn't work for me, there were loads of friends & fabulous dancers there (and cake!) Maybe I was just too tired, or suffering from the lack of space, or the new venue just didn't "feel" right. I did have some really enjoyable dances, but there was something missing. The numbers did thin out a lot towards the end, so I wonder if others felt the same way?
Of course, one less than inspiring session won't put me off going again, maybe my expectations were too great, after missing the previous month.
Perhaps others can come up with reasons why their favourite venue sometimes turns out to be a disappointment?

I wouldn't worry too much we are continually improving as dancers and they say that before a big step up onto a new level that our dancing seems pants and we can't get into the normal swing of a venue.
It is interesting going back to old venues that we used to attend on a regular basis. Because we have picked up new techniques and can make more of the music the old tracks have something of a rebirth and we can enjoy things in a new light.

Is this a permanent new venue for the T-Jive? What happened to Kent House? And has the Funky Lush venue changed too? I've only stopped dancing for two months and it feels like things have moved on fast! Once i've achieved the work/study/life balance thing, and finished my exams, I'll start dancing and reading the forum again!
Best of luck in Blackpool, Greg.

For me I think this mostly happens when I'm tired (and probably shouldn't have come)- sometimes it doesn't hit until I actually get onto the dance floor. I'm slowly learning to stay off the dance floor when this happens- or even go home early:eek:
Or maybe if friends I was expecting to be there aren't.

Normally it's all down to myself, unfortunately!
A very good example was the Polar Freestyle. I'd sooooooooo looked forward to that night, and the music was fab (thanks guys!:flower: ), and I was spoilt for choice with such a huge number of fantastic dancers...... But I simply couldn't dance! :tears: I felt worse and worse about my own dancing, which of course didn't really help, and in the end felt happier just sitting at the table serving people cake! :(
My apologies to the guys who had the misfortune to dance with me that particular evening....... RobD, you should perhaps count yourself lucky you didn't get a dance with me that night!
And the ironic thing was that I had a FAB night at Ashtons the night before, despite cr*p music, and some very scary people I did my best to avoid (thanks for trying to rescue me, Tessalicious!).

Is this a permanent new venue for the T-Jive? I believe so, the management at Southall weren't exactly pulling out all the stops.
Best of luck in Blackpool, Greg. Thanks for that. Now that is one event I was expecting to have a great time at, and I did, regardless of some things that should have been better.

Just back from the Dundee Ice Arena, after an hour of absolutely fab freestyle. Didn't think I was going to get there tonight, as I got home so late from work, but pmjd was running late, too, and offered me a lift!
I really don't like the floor or the venue at the Ice Arena, but Tiggerbabe's music was so good I didn't pay any attention to anything else! :worthy: She somehow always manages to make a playlist that pleases both the beginners and the advanced dancers, with a perfect balance between the old and familiar and new and exciting.
Also thanks to everyone who danced with me, I really had some great dances! In particular one to 'Whatever Lola Wants' with pmjd, and the one I danced with Tiggerbabe! Forgotten the name of the track, though.....
