 Now there's a lady who can dance up a storm :worthy:

What really struck me about the place was how perfect it is right now for beginners. The floorcraft last night was immaculate (apart from that one wall which kept sneaking up on me  ), good tunes and lovely dancers. No bouncy hands, death grips etc. I had a dance with one lady who I figured had been doing intermediate for a few months from the way she followed and was happily dancing manhattens etc with her. At the end I asked how long she'd been dancing - "3 weeks!" - and she was very happy about following intermediate moves - "Lots of fun" :worthy:

Take care,

Well I have heard (off the Grapevine) That the Bestest ever Taxi dancers are on Duty on Thursday Evening- allegedly aka Phil and Sue*

LMC has virtually promised to be there and even Tazmanian Devil (if she can wake up in time after such a hecktic weekend!! - Wayaybird and maybe even Gorgious Dancer and Posywhatsit maybe there

So promises to be a very good night - as long as those who have promised to come and a few more that are obviously wishing they could make it come along

And I would be if my back and shoulders were in a fit state :( - suffering after last night I'm afraid and need some recovery for the weekend. I'm not taxi-ing next Wednesday though, so can avoid bouncy grippy yanky visiting intermediates with a clear conscience (well, unless they ask me - but I won't feel I have to ask them  ) and come along and see you all on Thursday 16 :nice:

O.K then

It would appear that all of a sudden all these guys want me to lead them  I don't mind at all except I like to be lead too. Wednesday I spent half of the night leading men, a quarter of the night watching the football and only got a few dances following

I loved jumping of swings as a kid (still do) . It’s great fun and the playpark’s all lovely and tarmaced so you get a nice soft landing. But I’ll only push you if you want :flower: .

I’ve noticed that Bow’s getting more popular lately which is good (love the fact people are trying to visit while on holiday  ), but can anyone suggest alternative parking? The last couple of weeks I've driven past Jongleurs heading away from town to the next roundabout, taken a left and parked down there, but I don’t really know the area well.

Thanks,
Christopher

I’m soooooooo sorry. :flower: I had something in my eye (surreptitiously wipes a tear from own eye in a manly way) and I misjudged the distance  . I never, ever hit women.

What I meant was

Come here you silly Devil
(Very slowly and gently wipes tears off Taz’s face )

Appology accepted

Actually that's a bit cryptic. Sorry. What I mean is Jongleurs stop serving food at 11pm, but I need to eat by midnight otherwise my blood sugar will plummet. But there's no point in all of us missing the last few dances, so if anyone else wants me to order food for them, I'm happy too.

The menu's here (http://www.jongleurs.co.uk/lasso.acgi?-database=webShowDates&-layout=justtext&-response=clubs/ClubFood.html&webvenue=Bow&in_club_listing=1&-maxRecords=1&-search)

Xxx Me, Taz, The Wacko, Dan, MikeyR, Raphael, A Certain Lady and you

The good news is that you'll spend most of the evening doing simply amazing dancing with MikeyR :worthy:

Taz will demo superbly to the point of adding in musicality in the intermediate demo.

Dan will find that his beginners class keeps heading towards the door for some reason

The Wacko will be surpisingly restrained (and do the cutest impression of "hurt" )

A Certain Lady will hand out special key-rings  (mine will be presented to me by Taz  )

Raphael will get well deserved applause for his dancing :worthy:

Oh and you'll have a dance with me and move beautifully :awe:

Hope you enjoy yourself,

Just in case anyone else was curious

St Eric
"Eric IX of Sweden. King of Sweden from 1150, Eric did much to aid Christianity in his realm and was responsible for codifying the laws of his kingdom, which became known as King Eric's Law (also the code of Uppland). He led a victorious expedition against the marauding Finns and persuaded English bishop Henry of Uppsala to remain in Finnland to evangelize the Finns. Eric was killed and beheaded near Uppsala by rebelling Swedish nobles in the army of Magnus, son of the King of Denmark, who had invaded his territory, on May 18. Though never formally canonized, Eric was long considered the Patron of Sweden. His feast day is May 18th."

Be Well,

This goes out to all our friends from Wayaay bird and me, a big thank you to you all for your support and constructive comments; it was a tremendous boost to our confidence leading up to our first Latin Ballroom competition.

As most of you Know, The extremely talented Wayaay bird (Carly) and myself have only been doing Cha cha for 7 weeks and we were the only ones representing our Dance School in this category, most of the rest of the competition have been dancing about a year.

For those of you that have done Ballroom competition you'll know what I mean, but just the number of different age range/combination categories for each of the dances is bewildering and kids as small as 2ft (so it seemed) were competing.

[Soap box mode on)It was very interesting and entertaining. It made me think why we don’t have smaller more accessible levels of competition. Where people can get a less pressured introduction to dancing competitively. [Soap box mode off)

Needless to say, as this was our first experience in this area and although we were not quite at the level of fake tan, there is a more uniform approach and everybody else seemed to know how it worked, so understandably we were a little nervous.

2 hours in and its our turn, 5 couples on a floor smaller than Greenwich felt very crowded, unlike MJ we are not free styling we have a routine and it can take up a bit of space. Each beat means you should be on a particular foot and the spare arm for both has to be in sync, when to look at your partner, when not to look at your partner so many variables we don’t have our world.

I thought the heat went pretty well. I had managed to stay on time, not too many heel leads and the arms most of the time were in the right place. Carly was perfect. We were quietly confident.

The final, just dozing off in the back of the hall and they are calling the numbers for us to come out on the floor.……… Oh b***er we are through. And need to get out on the floor, not enough time for me to get my dance brain in gear. Little did I know I was now entering the longest 90 secs of my life.

They start the music, thinking got to get the beat and then we are dancing again 5 couples in the final the floor seems more crowded feeling definitely claustrophobic, just coming up to the turn that starts us moving in the opposite direction… the couple on our left is a bit close, gotta make the turn.

And then it happens I lose my concentration we are no longer dancing in time and the judge is right next to us, no choice we have stop and get back on time. We finished our dance a little deflated, all our friends we had made that day were supportive, and told us not to worry, But I knew I had blown it.

3rd Place, could we have gone higher if I hadn’t cocked up, maybe who knows? But I do that it has inspired me to continue and compete again. A BIG, BIG Thankyou to you all. And most of all. THANK YOU Carly for putting up with me:hug:    .

Mike did very well, and he didn't let me down at all if thats what he thinks, couldn't of done it without him  :awe:

I saw our teacher talking to the judge when we was waiting for the music, i think he was telling him the length of time we'd been dancing the cha cha and he actually said to us when we finished dancing 'good effort' I knew we hadn't won by that comment but it was nice of him to say so anyway.

Hopefully some of you could come and watch next time.

Thanks again.

Well done to Raph and GD :respect: I had some great dances last night, including one with Russell, who is a bit of a funky follower there  and a great lead. Some interesting tunes too, especially when queued without headphones, leading to some amusing "right track, wrong disk" action  Been there, done that

Everyone was welcoming and friendly (and very understanding of my nerves - I hope they didn't show too much  ) and it was so nice to put some more forumite faces to names.
Dan's class was great fun (he had me in stitches  ), and the venue is superb: air contitioned, nice atmospheric lighting, fun music, free parking and free iced water all night!

If you have not yet visited please get yourselves along to this venue, it's well worth a try, and it's also free entry until the end of August (except the 31st, when it's closed  ).

Well I finally got to see Tax demo (only took a YEAR!!!!!) - well worth it. Very nice footwork and remarkably well behaved.

:worthy: to Dan for continuing to teach ocho variations

:respect: To Erick for the creation of Taxi Dancer theme tunes

Despite having 2 men and a dozen women, Rosie and Phil did admirably in the Taxi class - one of Rosie's pupils telling Phil's group to move over because they were taking up too much room was priceless  And Rosie herself finished with time to spare :respect:

Thanks to Rosie and Taz for the dances (and for following my ochoes  )

Yay! It's been too long since I've been able to dance with my hair down

Good to see lots of people. Men over in the beginners class - which led to the discussion of should some of the guys who were sitting out join in the class as follows  Rosie solved the issue by briefly leading her own taster class in "following for men" :worthy: It did raise the interesting question as to how women lead differently from men, but that's for another thread

Lots of fast tunes form Erick to stave of the encroaching cold, but still some nice slow ones to play with - I especially enjoyed dancing the Pink Panther with WittyBird styling it for all she was worth

The mistress of disguise Emma also made an appearance and danced her socks off. :)

"The truth shall make ye fret"

Anyway LMC did one (http://www.cerocscotland.com/forum/showpost.php?p=213940&postcount=26)a while back and pretty much it still holds true.
The DJing's now split between Taz and Erick and Dan does most of the teaching. Not entirely sure what I'd call the average standard at the moment as there's a fair range of dancers.

What I've always liked about this thread is it's pretty representative of what Bow is actually like. Taz is mischievious, Dan's always ready with a rejoiner, The Wacko lives up to his name and so forth, just as they do in their posts. It's a friendly place and I think that shows here

But if doing a review will get you to come visit.........

Who's doing what tomorrow - let's see if we can tempt them

She means that your following is so bad that even Dan looks good in comparison. She's not the Tazmanian  for nothing

Yup, turns out demos are indeed most useful  Dan standing on his own with his arms out looking down would have looked rather less effective than when he had Sparkles gracefully lowering herself into a pose ;) .

Thanks to the taxis, especially Craig for putting up with a certain degree of mutiny and his other half for proving that not only can you have both the lead and follow dancing with their eyes closed but it's even possible to maintain a degree of floorcraft :worthy:

Ghost marshmellows and chocolate

   dancing with Rosie - gonna miss you next week :tears: Thanks for showing me the dance which I apparently can't spell :flower:

And  :worthy: to Erick for Craig's theme tune - truly evil playing the Smurfs
