I think there's been some confusion, I think there is only one, they were saying they thought it was a pilot whale, then they identified it as a northern bottle nosed whale, so people started thinking there was one of each.

Awww they are saying it's only got a 50/50 chance of survival :tears:

:yeah: (except whales are mammals)

Luckily the media are fickle. Next week it'll be a heart-rending story about a cute little otter pup hiding in a storm drain, which thousands of rescuers have failed to entice to emerge. Or something.

I mean, whatever happened to that poor ickle baby penguin :( - the media have callously dropped the story (much to my infinite relief - yeah, I was sorry for the penguin, but let's keep things in proportion eh?)

that penguin was last heard of driving through the desert of arizona, when he had a spot of trouble with his car . . .
luckily he managed to pull into a local town garage. Getting out he noticed a trail of oil behind him. The local mechanic told him he would find out what was wrong with his car in an hour or so . .
It was a hot day in the Arizona desert, so the likkle penguin walking about trying to amuse his self waiting for the outcome of his automobile, in the Arizona desert, and coming across an Ice cream parlour -

He was a penguin after all, and it was a hot day in the Arizona desert, - gorged hisself on ice-cream spilling a lot down his chest

... suddenly realising the time he rushed back to the garage where the Mechanic explained . . .

Looks like you have blown a seal

NO ITS ICECREAM HONEST CRIED THE PENGUIN

Hey tich, if you can't handle a 7 stone whale what on earth will you do when confronted by a 7 ton whale.

The trick is to avoid eye contact as she lumbers towards you. In emergencies, grab anybody's hand and rush on to the floor.
Unless you're a taxi dancer in which case you have to dance with her, bottle nose or not...

There's a dolphin stuck in a harbour in Cumbria this weekend as well! I didn't realise this sort of thing happend quite so often - like every few days with smaller animals.

Just in case anyone feels so inclined, the BDMLR are looking for donations to cover the cost of the rescue attempt and support their work.

Blimey.

Why is it that events like this seize the imagination? It's just one animal, there's billions of others. Whales have been wandering up rivers by mistake and dying for millennia. (...I bet.)
