I am very much looking forward to eating well this weekend, and I got to thinking that I really could only have stew and dumplings together.

I think that to enjoy one without the other would just be plain wrong.

Any thoughts??

With CJ 100% on this one! Somebody who's had stew without dumplings has been as deprived as someone who's only ever had non-chocolate advent calendars. Without is nice, but once tried with, there's no going back!

Im all for having an opinion, I've been known to have one myself. But (and I know Ive been guilty of it myself) do we always have to bring things down? Why not just say, I dont like it .. rather than equate it to dogs dinner. I actually make quite a nice stew and your comments really put me off.

I also think that a lot of people use the 'am i not allowed to have an opinion' as an excuse to be nasty. Im not directing this specifically at you Dee, I dont think your comments were meant to be nasty. But I get so fed up with all the negativity sometimes.

I am sorry Katie R but i dont see that Dee was being negative. Dee and Wicked blue just said that didnt like Stew and Dumpling (whats casserole then?). If this were a thread where only lovers of stew and dumplings could post then the starter should have said so. I dont see any one else throwing there toys out of their prams but obviously she touched a nerve here. I like casserole but avoid dumplings as i like to keep my fat content down. Take it as you please sweetie.

h

I still like stew (or casserole) and dumplings even though for the first time in my life I seem to have mislaid my waist.

But today, thank you, thank you, Clive, for a lovely Sunday dinner:

Succulent gamey roast duckling breast, with golden 'erb garnished roast potatoes, outer dark green leaves of savoy cabbage (nice, but takes some cooking), sliced carrot, nice gravy courtesy of Aunt Bessie, sage and onion stuffing balls by Morrisons' OB, all washed down with a couple of glasses of a nice Arniston Bay ruby cabernet.

Trouble is, there's now a sinkful of greasy washing up to be done.
