Unfortunately, WittyBird's unwell.

She's in hospital at the moment, awaiting a possible operation for a stomach condition which apparently just flared up last night.

She's drugged to the gills, and obviously not dancing anytime over the next few days.

Please join me in wishing her a quick recovery, and hopefully she'll be gracing the dance floor again very soon.

Get well soon WB!

Although I don't know you Becca I just want to wish you a speedy recovery and hope you're feeling better soon.

Having been ill & in hospital myself recently I know how horrid you must be feeling and how much you'll be missing your dancing, but make sure you give yourself time to get better properly and don't burn the candle at both ends or you'll be back where you started.

Get better soon....... love Jane (the skinny bird with the big scar):flower:

You'd be doing her a favour by eating them Stuart!! I've had what she's got and it was a visit to Cadbury's World that put me in hospital and a subsequent operation last year.
Hope you get it operated on soon Becca. Trust me it'll be worth it!!!:flower: :flower:

I know that i kept putting the operation off because i felt perfectly healthy, but as they say, it will flare up again. I can sympathise with everything you are going through, been there got the t/shirt or should i say scars! I too was put on a drip and nil by mouth for about a week. I was gutted when i came out and hadn't lost weight!! They probably won't let you go until you have eaten and kept your food down though. Hi Becca, so sorry to hear you've been having a rough time of it but glad to hear your well enough to be let out again!

I will be sent home and then called back for the op. :tears:

I don't know what op your waiting for  but when I was booked in to have my gallbladder removed, it got to 8pm the night before I was due in, just when I'd got myself all mentally prepared, the kids organised, hubby booked to take a couple of days off to look after me, when I got out, when they decided to call me to say the op had been cancelled!

I know a few people who've had this done, there was a spate of it a couple of years back. They're all absolutely fine now, but weirdly enough have found they're tastes have completely changed.

Aww poor you, I know that pain all too well!!! It's unbearable isn't it

I only had 1 singular gallstone, but it was about the size of a golf ball, apparently it was a beauty:waycool: :D

Anyway, the good news is, it's a very small op, mainly done by 'keyhole surgery' and only requires a short recovery time ;)

I personally had a small set back but only cos i was unexpectedly allergic to one of the drugs they gave me:rolleyes: but once that little episode was over, I felt the best i'd felt in ages and before anyone moans at me, I KNOW this was stupid but I was back dancing the following week!:nice:

The only downside is, when I was waiting for my op, I was scared stiff to eat anything with the slightest amount of fat in it, in case it set off an attack,   so I lost weight  but now I don't have that incredible fear hanging over me, it's back to plain old willpower, of which i have none! :tears:

....Operation stuff.....:
My god Lory we really should be twins:eek: It gets spookier by the minute. I too had my gallbladder out, Sept 04. I too lost lots of weight before due to the fear of eating anything that would set off the pain!
I went dancing 2 weeks after, although they did recommend leaving it for 6 weeks. I only danced with Jive P though and he was very gentle.
I was gutted not to know how many stones i had. I thought they would give them to you in a little jar. Apparently you have to request this before you go into theatre. So take note Becca!

I lost 2 stone before the op. After the op i went completely OTT and didn't eat anything that wasn't natural and lost another 2 stone. Unfortunately over the last year i've regained 1/2 stone so need to get back into the healthy eating. It's alot easier when the thought of excruciating pain is stopping you from eating that cake, biscuit etc.

I intend to be up and dancing almost straight away
You've got to remember that although you feel ok on the outside you have internal stitches and they are pretty rough with your insides so will have alot of internal bruising. So it really isn't wise to rush back as you'll end up with torn stitches.

The thing that made me laugh was when they took me into surgery i felt perfectly healthy and able but they insisted on wheeling me on the bed to theatre and wouldn't let me walk. After the op when i felt like sh*t i had to walk through the hospital to the car. It took me ages. I think the nurses were all sadistic:sick:

...I wonder how they get a gallstone the size of a golfball through a keyhole...Relativity, I think. They do it so quickly that due to Einstein's theory, it actually turns into a sperm whale and a bowl of petunias.

WB, please dont read this if you still aren't feeling the best

I had my gallbladder removed about 4 years ago and can certainly appreciate what WB is going through.

It is the most excruciating pain, they say that having gallstones is almost the same pain equivalent as giving birth. I had these pains for 12 months and the doctor I was going to kept telling me that it was in my head!! A change of doctor and an ultrasound later and I was in hospital!

I had keyhole surgery and went home the next day. less than 24 hours later I was rushed back to emergency by my then boyfriend because I was in so much pain that I couldn't breathe and was throwing up every sip of water that I tried to drink. I was in hospital on a morphine drip for the next week and a half. It is believed that I had septicaemia or some such other blood infection from the operation. it took me nearly two months to recover fully from it.

Can I suggest also WB, that you stay away from anything with Codeine in it. This causes the muscles around the area where your gallbladder used to be to constrict quite badly and I have had to be rushed to the doctor for a pethedine injection to stop the pain and allow me to breathe properly.

Take care, I hope you are feeling better.

...I wonder how they get a gallstone the size of a golfball through a keyhole...
I had a large keyhole  In fact, if anyone's under the impression that 'keyhole' surgery is ONE hole, then your wrong, it's FOUR!

I'm not a 100% sure but, I believe they might smash the gallstone up (if it's big) but I know they leave the stones in the gallbladder, then tie the ends up and drag it out in tact.

It is the most excruciating pain, they say that having gallstones is almost the same pain equivalent as giving birth. Err NO!

I've had 2 babies and I'd much rather give birth that have a gallbladder attack any day!

Anyway, here's my ultrasound ... The half round white thing in the middle, is the top half of the stone. The dark bit above to the right is the gallbladder and the long dark thing below is the shadow that was cast from it...

REALLY!:innocent:

How about this?

After you've eaten a huge Xmas dinner, made to wear a very large belt that's 10" too small, whilstst an elephants sat on your stomach and no matter which way you move, he wont get off, whilst at the same time, being stabbed by a blunt object through your shoulder blades, to your chest wall?

Close?

It's funny you should say that, because I got told that they suction the stones out first then they pull the gallbladder through the hole.

When I saw my consultant I asked him ' how do you get something soooooo big (silly hand pointy signs) out of something soooo big (more silly hand pointy signs!) ' to which he first of all laughed and then replied ' you don't' ( diagrams out time)

Maybe I'm just a confused little birdie and the consultant was in fact taking the p1$$ out of me

I ended up having 9 gallstones with the diameter of a 50p coin removed as well as my gallbladder. I dont have the ultrasound but they did give me the gallstones in a container.

No, I doubt it.

But Sherlock Holmes logic applies (or the legal phrase res ipsa loquitur): large gallstone, small hole; either TARDIS physics or they must disintegrate the gallstone.

You seem pretty much recovered.

(NB - There's a joke about women, golf balls and hosepipes but I just can't call it to mind...)

Not sure i'd agree with this:sick: Giving birth was far worse than the gallstones pain for me. But at least you come away with a baby, not sure that a jar of stones is quite as rewarding!! Less expensive and quieter, yes!!
There is a similarity in the waves of pain though. One minute in agony the next minute up and full of life. I remember virtually collapsing at Daventry and Emma P wanting to call an ambulance, then a couple of minutes later i was up and dancing.
