Its Auld Lang Syne and here are your lyrics...

Should auld acquaintance be forgot,
And never brought to mind?
Should auld acquaintance be forgot,
And days of auld lang syne?
And days of auld lang syne, my dear,
And days of auld lang syne.
Should auld acquaintance be forgot,
And days of auld lang syne?

We twa hae run aboot the braes
And pu'd the gowans fine.
We've wandered mony a weary foot,
Sin' auld lang syne.
Sin' auld lang syne, my dear,
Sin' auld lang syne,
We've wandered mony a weary foot,
Sin' auld ang syne.
We twa hae sported i' the burn,
From morning sun till dine,
But seas between us braid hae roared
Sin' auld lang syne.
Sin' auld lang syne, my dear,
Sin' auld lang syne.
But seas between us braid hae roared
Sin' auld lang syne.

And ther's a hand, my trusty friend,
And gie's a hand o' thine;
We'll tak' a cup o' kindness yet,
For auld lang syne.
For auld lang syne, my dear,
For auld lang syne,
We'll tak' a cup o' kindness yet,
For auld lang syne.

I think our version of "Old lambs Eye" is the best why break a family tradition? but the added bit about slaughter houses has to go

I thought it was "For Auld Lang Syne" rather than "And..."

You only need to know the first verse and chorus in most places in England:

Should auld acquaintance be forgot,
And never brought to mind?
Should auld acquaintance be forgot,
And auld lang syne?

CHORUS:
For auld lang syne, my dear,
For auld lang syne,
We'll tak a cup of kindness yet,
For auld lang syne!

If you're in Scotland then I'm sure they'd forgive you taking the Teletubbies option as suggested by Icey.

I also consider the singing bit as optional at that hour of the night/morning, depending on alcohol intake. But I usually produce some sort of noise approximating the above, I  nice shiny New Years (I just hate Christmas!)

Actually, I'm pretty sure that the last line of both the verse and the chorus should be:

For the sake of auld lang syne

And I think it should be 'drink' a cup of kindness, but I could be wrong. HTH :flower:

Words adapated from a traditional song
by Rabbie Burns (1759-96)

Should auld acquaintance be forgot,
And never brought to mind?
Should auld acquaintance be forgot,
And auld lang syne?

CHORUS:
For auld lang syne, my dear,
For auld lang syne,
We'll tak a cup of kindness yet,
For auld lang syne!

And surely ye'll be your pint-stowp,
And surely I'll be mine,
And we'll tak a cup o kindness yet,
For auld lang syne!

We twa hae run about the braes,
And pou'd the gowans fine,
But we've wander'd monie a weary fit,
Sin auld lang syne.

We twa hae paidl'd in the burn
Frae morning sun till dine,
But seas between us braid hae roar'd
Sin auld lang syne.

And there's a hand my trusty fiere,
And gie's a hand o thine,
And we'll tak a right guid-willie waught,
For auld lang syne

Oooh, a Real Scot has validated the Google search that I decided came closest to my memory of the words.

I am not worthy :worthy:

There you are D & D - print off whichever version you prefer and photocopy it at about 9000% enlargement and pin to a handy wall so you can read it when you're full of New Year spirit :D

I am not worthy :worthy: I'm in no way an expert, despite being born in Burns country.

Doing some more reading up, and based on hazy memories, I can also report that typically only the first and last verses are sung.

Oh, one more thing – "syne" is pronounced with an "S", and not a "Z". :nice:

When I was a wee one , my folks had an LP by an american guy called Allan Sherman ( him of Camp Grananda fame - hello mudda, hello fatha fame)

On one of his tracks he did a parody of this and for years I really thought this is how it went:-

[parody of "Auld Lang Syne"]
I know a man, his name is Lang,
And he has a neon sign.
And Mister Lang is very old,
So they call it Old Lang's Sign.

Common misconception.

Here's the real words you need...

Does it really matter, I mean how pedantic do you want to get? Will the sky fall in if we get it wrong or have the wrong version? When everyone is half cut and sloshed to the hilt, no one ever gets past the should old aquaintance bit anyway...

Well it's nice to know when you're right...

But you are right, it doesn't matter so much. Though I'd suggest it matters more in Scotland than in England, Australia, or anywhere in-between.
