Looking for some information please!:flower:

I might have a meeting in London on Mon 19th Dec and was thinking of making a weekend of it and coming over on the Friday and going dancing - lots. (And maybe shopping too!)

I need to know what options there are so that I can think about what airport to fly into/out of, when to come over and where to stay (I could stay in different places on different nights if I wanted to stay near to somewhere I was going dancing but I need to know what areas of London any possible venues are). Any useful information would be appreciated.:flower:

I know that Friday 16th Dec will be Friday Freestyle at Ashtons, which is one of the best nights of freestyle

EDIT: Been looking on multi map. London is a big place...

Yes, Cricklewood's NW London. I think it's got a few hotels, but the venue is only a couple of minutes' walk from the train station, and Cricklewood's only 10 mins from London King's Cross Thameslink as I recall.

Not that I'm suggesting, implying or recommending you stay anywhere near King's Cross of course :D

LONDON AREA:
16th-ashtons
18th-T jive & Berhamstead

Not sure if I am going yet to Ashtons but hoping work doesnt get in the way,.. And I'm defo doing Berkhamstead sunday evening. So if you wanted to do the T jive which I probably cant make,.. you can get a lift with one of the girls from the T jive to Berkhamstead maybe and then come back to mine with me for sunday night.
If you need a bed on Friday night and sunday evening you can stay at mine if you wanted. So if I go down to London on friday you can go with me in the car no problem. and the same with Berkhamstead. I am an hour away by train from London St Pancras and its a direct train. If you need the bed for sat night too I can see what I can do.
Let me know your thoughts asap please...

PS oh the nearest Airport to me is Luton BTW

Not much on on Saturday though, Jive Party at the Rivoli looks like the best bet, but I haven't been there myself for years, so that says alot! That said, if you're looking to stay in NW London, the Rivoli's not that accessible from there, so Putney has a freestyle night, but I've never been there, so don't have a clue what its like!

As for Sunday 18th, don't know of anything! Does anyone else know of anything, I'd like something to do too!

If I was you, Lynn, I wouldn't miss Ashtons for anything, you've unfortunately picked a bad weekend for dancing to come to London!

OK, I rang up and confirmed my meeting on Monday.

Sounds like a good weekend to me!

Ah, bad dancing weekends, always a good time to catch up with muggle friends, glad you've got a good one lined up. :)

Hello Lynn

If you are looking for something on the 17th then there is always Jag Jive at Bookham in Surrey. If you can find someone to give you a lift to and from the venue then it is quite a nice place to have a dance because it has two rooms (for both modern jive and swing and blues) and they limit ticket numbers to avoid.

I know it is on the southern edge of the M25 and there is no pulic transport to speak of but if you can find someone to give you a lift to it it is a nice little dance and I would be pleased to see you again.

Though I will be using Thameslink a few times as it goes to most of the places I need to travel between - Luton, Gatwick and London Bridge.

I've managed to get most of my weekend sorted and am really looking forward to coming over and doing some dancing and meeting up with some forumites!

EDIT: Been looking on multi map. London is a big place...London may be big, but it certainly seems to have a great transport network! I've decided to just stay in Berkhamsted on Sun night as I can get the train to Euston then onto the tube to my Mon meeting. Then train after the meeting to Gatwick. Only one change (at Euston) and only about 5-10 mins walk between where I am/need to get to and trains at any point.

Though I'm not sure about getting from the T-Jive on Sun to Berkhamsted - so anyone going to both got room for a little person (and a little cabin bag size case)?

Read Berko thread :innocent:Thank you!

Big thanks in fact to all the forumites who have offered lifts, a bed for the night, helpful advice etc. Really much appreciated.  When I heard on Wed morning about the meeting in London I wondered if I could combine it with some dancing - but had no idea where, when etc. Now with dancing and socialising lined up I am really looking forward to next weekend!

Back home in NI again - had a fab weekend! Dancing, catching up with friends, visiting Heavenly Dance shoes (and ordering a pair :D ), more dancing, the T-Jive  ...

I was very fortunate with completely hassle free travel - over 10 journeys by bus, tube and train and I don't think I was waiting more than about 5-10 mins for any of them.

BIG THANKS  to Dizzy for being such a fab hostess, chauffeur and such a luffly person!   Thanks also to Miss Conduct for the lift to Berkhamsted last night.:flower:

I think I have found a new convert for MJ - my friend Chris really enjoyed himself and commented on how friendly everyone was.

The only low point for me was last night at the B&B, all the dancing finished and still the meeting and presentation today ahead of me. Felt a teeny bit down and lonely at that point. :(

But a great weekend, lovely to meet some forumites I hadn't met before (Dee, Missy D, KatieR, Paul F, Mooncalf) and had some really lovely dances!

Work tomorrow morning:( , but only till lunchtime!:nice:
