Reading that I'm expecting 'baby food' music there then.

I think I'm going to give the Bedford Corn Exchange a whirl. It's been well over a year since I've been there. And BigD mentioned a tango song with a long break in it was played at Bedford the other day, so I'm hoping for some slower and interesting music.

What are my chances?

Oh pity, thought it might be worth a drive down to Oxford. It looks like we'll be going to Nottingham Pulse then as I'm struggling to find anything else in the Midlands.

For one reason or another I haven't been to freestyle since coming back from Southport in September, and quite frankly I'm going mad.

ZW:flower:For a 5:30 Tango with a long break? I would say Zilch. I experienced that at the Tuesday Jive Vibe venue, held in a beautiful little oven in the Guild House about 8 weeks back. (Now at the Harpur Suite? I do not know, as don't go there any more. I got castigated by the boss for doing a "stupid" move with a beginner, which left her giggling and her friend laughing.)

However the local Ceroc music has taken a welcome step in the ZW direction, and the bonus play-out track last night had 3 couples tangoing. I have been supplying the DJ with the playlists from this forum.

As for the promotion of this event - It is always full, no need to say more.

I saved on petrol and went to the Beford Corn Exchange with very low expectations on music was pleasantly surprised.

The Corn X

Low Points:

The line dance class dragged on and on till nearly 10PM. Only 60 out of 250 people were interested in it by the end.

Music was much more varied than in the past, still too uptempo for me. Exactly as on my last two visits I had partners saying catch you later for a slower one , but there were so few slower tracks. Didn't dance with BigD or Yogi for that reason Sorry  .

Some odd mixing...Whatever Lola Wants was cut short and mixed into a pop track :really: , I wondered if the DJ did that just for my benefit?

Accoustics were terrible - all the middle was missing so you couldn't hear any melody or lyrics, just banging. It took me 2 minutes to recognise Oye Como Va, I would have danced to that!! Resident house speakers were used they were high on the walls all round the room.

High Points:

Driving out only 20 miles, with a low expectation of the night.

The floor was much less sticky than usual so I was actually able to walk at the end of the night instead of limping back to my car.

Some great dances with old friends :flower: .

Smoke free.

I had a lot of fun with my guns.

The Corn X

I'll be back.

ZW:flower:

Yes, pity about the line dancing going on and on, but there was still freestyle till 12.30, even if the really good tracks were few and far between.
No dance with ZW this time  but she has great taste in music :flower:
After chips on the way back and a chat at Wouter's, home and in bed by 4.00 (just)...:what:

Im going to be particularly nasty so be warned

I think its fair to say that my criticism of nights recently has been down to personal opinion. Along with any criticisms, however, I have always mentioned that it IS my personal opinion and should be taken lightly. :)

This review though is not based on current personal taste but on my experience with MJ as a dancer, teacher and occasional DJ who enjoys a mixture of tracks on a normal MJ night.

I went to Northwich memorial hall on Saturday. I can say, hand on heart, that the music was some of the worst I have ever heard at an MJ night. This freestyle is usually very very good and would have recommended anyone to go to it. Often I have enjoyed sets from Dazzle and marc forster, among others :worthy: Last Saturday there was a guy there from, i think chester, and he managed to play a constant set of all the usual stock of MJ tunes interspersed with some fast rock and roll. :tears:

Response seemed to be varied at best. There were a couple of tracks that cleared the floor but in the main people danced. Is that a good reflection of the music ? I dont know. All I can say is that I will check who is DJing before going back.

Why is it that one DJ eg, JB or Marc Forster can consistently produce a really good MJ set but other DJs cant? Do they not have the music? Do they not read the floor? Is it that they have THEIR favourites? Is this diversity a good thing? I just dont know

OOoooooooooooooH .. I have to disagree :flower:

Sue and I both felt that JB was back on form after the last few times we've been
Wll done JB:clap:
Top Night, spoiled only by the fact that we had to leave early for the babysitter's sake:tears:

The last 3 songs were good, at least id heard of them

But many had left by then so more dance space :yeah:

Not many had left Woking by the end so less dance space

What ever, it is only personal opinion but its a pity that ceroc/jive seems to be developing a totally different set of tunes at different venues.

I like fast I like slow I like all sort not just 'odd' all the time. Two women non forum have asked recently do I dance WCS , i never have maybe i should give that a go.

Anyone who plays 'slow boat to china' will always get a few extra points from me

Honestly, she needs a chaperone at all times. She should not be allowed out unsupervised!
