Apparently it'll probably be Daniel Craig - according to the BBC (http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/entertainment/film/4337224.stm) anyway.

I can't see it myself - I love his stuff, but he looks a bit too old and a bit too blond... He'd be a great Bond villain though :)

Anyone else have any views?

Definately too old! The next film they're making is Casino Royale, so its right at the start of Bond's spy career, so he's supposed to be young, this guy looks older than the very gorgeous Pierce Brosnan does now! I heard a couple of years ago now that they were looking at Ewan McGregor, I think even he's possibly too old to play a really young Bond now. I would have thought that Daniel Radcliffe (Harry Potter) might have been closer to the right age group! I know he's a bit too young, but they could age him a little bit.

Not too old to be Bond, but too old to be a really young Bond, at the start of his career, yes.

Let's face it, Craig's a great actor, but you don't automatically think of him as Bond. He's always played worldweary characters, and he's got a really lived-in, cynical-looking face.
Obviously 37 is too old, or at 38 and 364 days, I'd be a shoe-in for it.

The main problem is that the producers, dumb as a stump that they are, have scheduled the film to start in a few weeks, but couldn't find anyone to actually play the lead character.

(Us normal people might casually think that when starting to make a Bond film, it's usually helpful to, you know, have someone to play Bond lined up. But no, that was clearly seen as a minor matter to the geniuses who are in charge...)

So they panicked, and started frantically looking around for someone, anyone, to play the part. Me, I'd have stuck with Piers, he's still way better than Moore was at the end (Octopussy, ewwww... ).

Failing that, I'd have gone for an unknown. I mean, good grief, it's BOND, it's not as if you need a big name to promote the unknown franchise or something...

Dan Craig is a superb actor, who, even in his early twenties could 'age' himself (with a little help from make-up). But he's got a face like a squashed plimsoll (no offence Dan, I love you to bits) which I think helps to mould himself into a huge variety of characters.

I could see him as a Bond, as he can be very dashing. He is a lovely guy and one of the easiest people to work with, so it would be great to see him in the part. I guess it's a question of whether he can 'youth' himself as well as he can 'age' himself! He has certainly got that wicked twinkle in the eye.

I will try and find out some gossip tomorrow...........but I'm sure it will only be gossip.

I agree -I love everything he has ever done, but he seems a bit rough around the edges for Bond
of course , maybe he could ACT being smooth, and we've just never seen it!

personally I would have liked to see Jude Law or Clive Owen do it, but Brosnan is still the best in my opinion

Much as I hate hype, I'll probably go and see it. After all it's got to be better than the last effort, though to be fair that's not hard

Daniel Craig has the potential to be a good Bond and from what I've seen they've moved back from the special effects extravaganza to something a bit more believable which can only be good

how old was bond supposed to be in Casino Royale? Ive not read the book for a few years but I got the impression he was a reasonably mature age? Wikipedia doesnt help much/

The new film is looking promising, a great change from "Dire Another Day" then :)

I remember watching the scene in xXx when Vin Diesel is given some 'x-ray spex' which can see right through a brick wall. I was so disgusted I switched off. If a film contains magic, fine - I have no problem with Harry Potter because the premise is clear. But no science enables you to see through bricks - and yet xXx is supposed to be a 'serious' thriller, rather than a film featuring magic.

And then I saw the second half of Die another day and felt profoundly let down. An invisible car, fer crissakes. What a pile of steaming horse*****. There's more reality in SpongeBob SquarePants.

Hopefully the Bond team will keep to the new brutalism, rather than veering off into nonsense as seemed quite possible.

Very true. I despised Dire Another Day (it wasnt me that coined that particular misspelling ....I'm not the only one). Whilst invisibility is possible i.e. you have a camera capturing whats behind the object to then display it on the front, that clearly only works in 2 dimensions. A whole car? from any angle? Thats not a stretch, its ridiculous - may as well have given Bond some spells to cast :) That wasnt the worst thing though - that was Halle Berry's "Acting". She couldnt even run 20 yards convincingly. I wanted her character to die horribly - first time ive felt that feeling toward a Bond girl  Then you've got the stupid laser machinery , the satellite killer laser beam trying to kill Bond, cars and missiles on ice, complete face change technology, backwards dives into the sea from 1000ft up.....etc...

Well, I know, and Bond was so well known for its gritty realism up until then too.

I'm in a minority - I liked Die Another Day. It had some old-style Bond detective work - he didn't even touch a gadget for the first hour. It had an excellent sword fight scene. Brosnan definitely wore the role well. Halle Berry, well she wore her bikini nicely.

Compared to the abysmal "Tomorrow Never Dies" and the even-worse "The World Is Not Enough" (featuring Robert Carlyle as the Baddy With A Superpower Which Was Then Never Used), I thought "Die Another Day" was pretty good.

Point taken. But even in the especially silly Roger Moore era there was the grounding of a decent script. But i think it was because D.A.D. started off so promisingly that it was even more of a dissapointment. WIthout those things I mentioned, you're right it would have been the best bond film for a long while. I really cant suspend disbelief THAT far though :)

Well, I saw "Casino Royale" over the weekend. I had fairly low expectations, but I was pleasantly surprised. Daniel Craig is great as Bond - very physical, and quite scary.

The action sequences are excellent, and the film generally flows well - it drags a bit towards the end, after the big poker game finale - which in itself is a little flat - but it's generally well worth watching. And it leaves quite a few things up in the air, which is nice to see.

Good film, go see it.

I enjoyed it in parts....

I wish they'd made the poker a little more realistic. What are the chances that in one hand, in order, there would be a flush, 2 full houses, and a straight flush! It didn't need to go to quite such extremes to have Bond win. (Yes, I know it's just a story, and at least they didn't have an invisible car!).

And like Mr James, I did find the bit after the casino event a bit dragged out and a bit of an anti-climax.

But overall, enjoyable, and I'd recommend it!

Good film, go see it.I went on Friday. I loved it. The first Bond movie I ever saw was George Lazenby's only Bond appearance, On Her Majestey's Secret Service and Daniel Craig reminded me a bit of George - but is a far better actor.

I'm hoping to see Bond next wednesday (Orange cheap night) with a forumite that asked me.

But I know I'm going to get upset while watching the film as it was upsetting enough seeing the torturtous scene from the film trailer - by that I mean the bit where the Aston Martin gets destroyed. I was devastated - what a waste of a beautiful car. They could have given it to me and made me a very happy chappy.:waycool:

What was sad was the make-up & hair for Vesper - when she's getting ready & isn't 'wearing' make-up, she looks fabulous. Once she's dolled up, her red lippy seems to migrate around her lips & she looks too up and down and don't think her hair do does her many favours in her first outfit.

It had lots of beautiful lighting as well.

One thing about it though, I'm not sure about Bond playing Poker. From what I have heard about Ian Fleming, I'm sure that he'd have had Bond playing Chemin de Fer or Bacarat (as per "For your Eyes Only"). I'll have to have a look at the Book to find out.

Did anyone see "Mock the Week" recently? They did a round of "things never heard in a James Bond Film". My favourite was "Before you go Bond, please fill in this Health and Safety Risk assessment".
