OK, so who's brave enough to name their favourite dancers? It doesn't mean they are necessarily the 'best' dancers just your personal favourites. Maybe to certain music, cos they are fun to dance with, you connect, have a similar style, whatever the reason.

In no particular order:

Paul Warden > WCS
Brady (Scotland) > feel a great connection when dancing.
Paul Harris > feels comfortable and has helped me loads to improve.
Victor > Doh!
Tom Baker > for faster music, i always come off the floor out of breath!
Phil (Yuko's) > So smooth. Definately one for Latin tracks.
Franck > Definately fun to dance with.
Roger Chin > Amazing lead, his moves always have me smiling.
David Barker > Likes to play and challenge you.
Yann > a french guy who sadly went back to France in 2002. :tears: We were like mirror images in our dance style.
I want to go on but the rules are, only 10 allowed.
So to all my other favourites, you would have been there if i could have 11 honest!

Followers i aspire to dance like.

Hmm, tough one.

Leaders:

1. Stuart Forsythe (just the best!)
2. Joe (don't know his surname, he's a drama teacher)
3. Andy Fleming (can make me do things in Lindy that nobody else ever can!)
4. Ryan Francois (never actually danced with him, think I'd cry if he asked!)
5. Nigel Anderson (the ultimate for dancing to his partner's ability, and making them feel like a queen, so lucky that his partner is Nina I guess!)
6. I've run out now! Lots of other people I really enjoy dancing with, just none that I could put into any order!

Followers I aspire to dance like:

1. Hev Mate! (So much fun to watch!)
2. Nina Daines (who doesn't?)
3. Rena Swanpeol (probably spelt wrong, just such good fun!)
4. Nope, run out again, seems to be a strong Swing theme running in all of mine!

Wonder if I'm going to be on anyone's list? Nice aspiration - to be on someone's top ten list! (Depends on how many they have to chose from though - I may be on some guys top ten list here in NI but then again they haven't a lot of choice!) I can dream...one day...maybe even a top twenty list...

I dont know if i have a top ten, i enjoy dancing no matter who i am dancing with (unless they cant but try to lead comb leans...still in pain)!

I do have favorites that i always pick out at a venue tho, but i have to agree with lynn, does that just depend on the quality you normally have?

Also does your top ten change with time? :flower:

Also does your top ten change with time? :flower:I would think it would, after all you meet more dancers and some might become favourites for different reasons. Doesn't mean you can't really enjoy dancing with everyone, but sometimes for whatever reason you just 'connect' more with some dancers than others and that for me, would make them 'guys I want to dance with'.

And D - you would certainly be in everyone's top ten in NI as well! :flower:

I have a couple of problems: I can't remember names, and I can think on way more than ten people I love dancing with (and will at any occasion I can)... In fact I think I would be hard pushed to list ten folk I could miss off a "favourite dancers" list

I think that the order of people depends on the track at the time.

Best Leads...

Robert Cordoba (WCS) he was MAGICAL
Gino (salsa) sooo smooth.. but i freak out when i dance with him, eg. all i can think of is "omg omg omg I'm dancing with Gino.. omg omg omg"
Paul (salsa) great style, soft.. but expert. could dance with him with my eyes shut and he would still put me exactly where he wants me
Stanley (salsa).. another nice stylish, soft lead
Andreas (everything :D ) very precise, not too soft, not too yanky (if i remember correctly!)
Graham (salsa) a really "safe" lead..
Rob something-or-other from Ceroc Counties (er.. ceroc).. just felt like we had a similar style
Vanroe (salsa, ceroc) - can make ANYONE look good. And expertly places the woman.

:worthy: :worthy:

Followers I want to dance like..

Masha (salsa) - sooo stylish
Dana Gino's partner (salsa) - she can keep up with Gino, now thats a talent.. plus I like how she swishes her hair about

Louisa The only WCS teacher in NZ ! haha (WCS) - soooo smoooth

Bill > The best for a blues dance.
Simon R > For a funky dance
Dale > Of course
Dave Hancock > So much fun and unpredictable.
Gilbert > Have only danced with him once, but ooh so good.
Sherwin (Scotland) > Comfortable and easy to dance with.
Paul F > Love his ballroom style

and another 10 as i've so many more.

Keith (Janeys hubby) > So challenging, he scares me.
Alex Faulkner > For a funky track
Jive Brummie > just because!
Adam (Tas) > A beautiful lead, i thought he'd be hard to follow but was pleasantly surprised.
Clayton > Such a smiley person!
Kev F > Lovely and smooth (just needs to work on the eye contact  )
Roy Power > I find him sooo challenging!
Flynn (Milton Keynes) > Great style.
Nigel Anderson > When he doesn't just hold you close, I wanna be challenged!
Sheepy > has been a favourite for so many years.

:yeah:
I'm very dubious about the value of this thread - but at the same time it's compelling reading.

I don't want to post a top 10, partially because it'll please 10 people (at most!) and probably displease many more, but mainly because it varies.

I'm generally not a big fan of dancing with teachers or Names, mainly because they often don't live up to the hype. But also, I love dancing with someone who's a pure dancer - not a teacher, not a competitor, just someone who loves to dance for the sheer fun of it.

There are lots of lovely dancers out there of this kind, who have no interest in promoting themselves, many of whom I've had superb dance experiences with (better than with Dance Goddesses, to me).

But no, I'm not naming them - I'm keeping them to myself :innocent:

(Or at least, in your top 10!)If they're needy types who are going to be offended because I didn't put them in a list, they have other problems they ought to be worrying about.

So, let's see if I've got this, now: we're not allowed to be mean about people on the Forum because they might be offended. And we're not allowed to be nice about people either - because someone else might be offended. I'm surprised we're even allowed to admit to the dirty little secret of enjoying a dance here on the Soviet Socialist Republic of Ceroc Scotland Forum because we're being so damned egalitarian. Maybe we should all go on a Landmark Forum course...

So, let's see if I've got this, now: we're not allowed to be mean about people on the Forum because they might be offended.
Speak for yourself, I fully anticipate a flamewar being started by me at about, ooh, 1.30am tomorrow morning. Watch this space...

And we're not allowed to be nice about people either - because someone else might be offended.
Obviously, being nice to people is Plain Wrong. And public niceness, well - that's just indecent.

But this whole "Ooh, I love dancing with XXX Famous Teacher and YYY famous Competition-Winner" stuff just got on my nerves after 20-odd posts, it sounded too much like sucking-up to me.

Except the people who mentioned me - obviously, these people are gifted with rare discernment and taste. Notice that "rare" is not "good" of course.

Personal niceness is good, group niceness is not. I'm not a big fan of saying "Ohh, I had a great time with XXX, thanks for the dance" on the Forum either - sounds grovelly to me. If I had a good dance, I'll show my appreciation to my partner, there and then.

Do you think we'd get a discount rate if we made up a whole seminar full of Forum people?
Forum meets Forum - scary thought. But I thought those meeting were called "weekenders", in the scary insider jargon-speak these cult-like organisation adopt. I feel a new thread coming on...

...and every single one of them a teacher or competition winner. Is it not done in Sydney to admit enjoying dancing with 'regular' people - or do you not enjoy it?

I was recently in Australia and tried out a few venues! One of the questions asked by most people was 'Have you competed?' or 'Have you been placed?'.
Its like you are not of as high a standard if you haven’t competed/been placed - this irritated me a little! :( Why can you just not enjoy dancing with who ever?

You'll only upset those people who are sufficiently puffed-up to believe that they're everybody's favourite dancer when they aren't. I can't entirely agree with this, partly because if I posted a list I know I would forget to mention people that should be in there, but maybe I rarely get the chance to dance with them or see them. Am I just a tart for suggesting that my list would also vary depending on who's available?
Last Tuesday I was approached by someone vaguely familiar, that I can't have seen for at least a couple of years, we just had the most brilliant dance where everything worked, and that was it, it maybe another 2 years or more until our next one. So if I was compiling a list on Tuesday, she would be in it (if I knew her name!) I can also have pretty dire dances with my favourites on rare occasions, for some reason the connection, or the music, or the mood is just not right. Dance, like, life, is just too fickle!

There's a few more lists here (http://www.cerocscotland.com/forum/showthread.php?t=2507) this obviously isn't a topic that wants to stay buried...

Suppose *everyone's* available?

...99.5% of all dances I have is truly brilliant and wonderful and fun and just about enjoying dancing and the connection there and then - nothing serious and although it certainly can be debated whether it is a good or bad thing to name people I have had particularly good experiences with doesn't really matter - but nice to get a chance to say - hi - you probably know this already, but I think you're wonderful and fun to dance with :flower: :)
...and for the remaining 0.5% you unfortunately hurt me as I have back problems and just need a little guidance in how to dance safely and without causing any pain or further injuries

Leaders - in no partiuclar order (apart from my number 1 of course..)
1 Sam (Dundee)
2 Sherwin (Dundee)
3 Burgess (Dundee)
4 Jive Brummie (Dundee/Perth)
5 Keith (Manchester)
6 Phil (Yuko)
7 Sheepman
8 Under Par
9 Sheena (Dundee)
10 Brady (Glasgow)

Followers - again - no particular order and lot's more wonderful followers out there and lot's of you I've still to meet
1 Denise (Dundee)
2 Emma (Petit? not sure of name)
3 Taz (Adam)
4 Nina
5 Lisa (Aberdeen)
6 Lorna (Aberdeen/Dundee)
7 Lily B
8 Elaine B

How come Mike Ellard is nowhere to be seen here ?

Can only surmise one of the following:-

A) No-one likes to dance with him
B) No-one likes the way he dances
C) He never dances

just curious..

I'm obsessed with saying that they're evil, does that count

I wouldnt put it that strongly, but its not the be all and end all if one is not 'placed'.

:yeah: Absolutely NOT

I wouldn't dream of naming names here.

My top ten know who they are.

And I know who they are too, they are not neccessarily competition winners - they are people I connect with who love to dance.

Simple as that.

ZW :flower:
Aha! but you obviously admit to having a top ten then. If you see the start of this thread it states that they are not neccesarily the "best dancers" it is people you enjoy dancing with. I completely agree that everybodies "top ten" will keep changing. I've already posted 30 and keep having to stop myself from posting more!
In my opinion your (thats anyone, not ZW) ego must be pretty large if you expect to be on someones list considering how many dancers there are out there. Tott up in your head roughly how many people you have ever danced with it's hundreds if not more. So how can anyone 'expect' to be in the top ten. There are some leaders i have had a"wow" dance with but it has only happened once. There are others on my list that i've never had that "wow" dance with, but they are on there for other reasons.
Personally i think that some people are wary of posting their top ten incase they don't get asked anymore by the people that weren't on their list

Apologies if I have missed something but its also interesting how no teachers or regular placed competitors have posted a top 10.
They have been included in others' top 10's but, as yet, no listings :)

No matter how innocent the thread is you DO risk people being a bit 'miffed off' if you dont list them. Doubt a teacher or regular competitor could risk that !

I can imagine a number of the male dancers on the London circuit, e.g. Will, Groovy Dancer, DavidB, postoing a top 10 then getting lynched when the 372 female dancers they left off 'get miffed' by pulling thier legs off ... or WORSE, just huffing off every time thay were asked to dance  ... trust me, it could happen

Are the brits just as obsessed with placings/competions?

I can remember being almost burnt alive a while back when I noted this fact in the Tramp thread in Chit Chat. Totally agree, it is very irritating and I also consider it rather immature as we all know how little a title actually means.

But to stick with the topic of the thread. I won't name my favs either, they know who they are and so do I :D (Thanks for that line ZW ;) )

I agree with you, Heather, but I believe in answering tough questions accurately and letting the cards fall where they fall.
Another poster said that our egos should be above taking offence and this is right - I havent figured on anyone"s top ten and it hasnt bothered me; after all its a big ask to be in any top ten British pole.
The question was a brave one ( Cruella) and it has made me think about who I really enjoy dancing with and what makes a good dancer; e.g., in a recent poll I stated that I had danced with 24 or so open champions but only one of them figures in my top ten....

Is it not done in Sydney to admit enjoying dancing with 'regular' people - or do you not enjoy it?I enjoy dancing with lots of people. Well if you haven't danced with ESG, DJ, LL then you haven't lived.

I can't claim actually to haved danced with LL but he showed me how to "slow up" - so I'll count that

You should try following a strong male lead (and they need to be strong to lead me) - its a disorienting but liberating experience. I need more of it but I keep wearing out the patience and physical resilience of the partners.

I'm wishing i'd made this the top 50 now as i keep thinking "ooh i should have put so and so" . So i'm going to have another top 10

Ray (Daisys hubby) > cos apparently he's upset i didn't put him on my list
Spice and easy > wow eye contact, save him for a bluesy number
Silverfox > Ditto

I'm going to stop now as i'm sounding like a dance tart. but there are so many good men out there. I could easily do a top 50.
My wish is to have a freestyle with all of these and the other favourites i haven't had time to mention and me. :D

Simple: you gave me rep (for an unrelated post, I should add - not everyone on my list gave me rep just to get on the list!) so I put you on my list. I said at the outset that places in my top ten were for rent, because there'd be no point in me posting my real top ten. Most people on here would never have heard of most (all?) of the people in my real top ten, as they're all local.

3. DavidJames - clinically incapable of giving neg rep.
4. MartinHarper - sadly prevented from giving neg rep to himself.

Ressurecting so new folks can post their lists, and maybe some updated top tens for the year 2006.

Picking a top ten turned out to be way too difficult for me, so I settled for an awards ceremony thing:

Best female lead: Betsy (first person to lead me, still great connection)
Best female follow: Tamille (Worcester dancer, so very leadable)
Best male lead: Trampy (though I hear his ego doesn't need the help)
Best male follow: Noel (because the guy can dance)

:D I got my first ever neg rep from Martin yesterday. For swearing. I said Belgium.

To explain:

Belgium - from The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy: "The concept it embodies is so revolting that the publication or broadcast of the word is utterly forbidden in all parts of the galaxy except one, where they don't know what it means." The word first appeared in the radio series, and later replaced "f*ck" in the censored American edition of the novel Life, the Universe and Everything. The character of Stingray Timmins on the soap opera Neighbours has also adopted this term. Also from the British TV comedy series, Monty Python's Flying Circus (Episode 37, 'Prejudice'), where in a game show, viewers are asked to send in suggestions for a derogatory term for Belgians. The winner was 'Miserable fat Belgian bastards.' A runner-up was 'I can't think of anything more derogatory than Belgians.'

But as he happened to mention Monty Python in his rep comments, I felt perfectly justified in negging him back.

And I'd never list my favourite people to dance with here. But many of them live in Scotland. :D

I think it's good to see a revival of this thread. I would like to know how many people who did have the willing to post their lists would still stand by that list. I am unlikely to post a list of my favourite followers for many of the reasons that DJ makes in his post (http://www.cerocscotland.com/forum/showpost.php?p=155754&postcount=27)earlier in the thread. I also feel strongly that enjoyable dancing can rely as much upon compatibility as ability level and people I would have regarded as favourites 12 months ago I no longer find such compatibility with. This doesn't mean they are worse dancers, just that our styles have diverged.

I don't follow well (as Almost An Angel will attest ) so I cannot judge leaders based on their leading ability but people I am always happy to watch leading are

* Paul F
* Simon Bowker
* Noel - crazy style :what:
* Pretzelmeister - he looks like he's having so much fun
* Paul Harris
* Andy Martin
* Marc Forster
* Jammy
* Sparkles :innocent:

Almost 2 hours since you posted that Di and still no-one's refuted your claim  On your birthday too. Shame on all you leaders out there. Maybe there should be a new thread - Who Loves Cruella? - after all, you didn't mind your own thread of apology

Nope can't follow with a guy at the moment, have tried but it nearly ended in a fight.. I am up for trying again though, but only with people smaller than me so that i win the fight.

I have started to lead a few guys though.

And i have let a few women lead me.

Well sometimes when the women is that poor at following it is just easier to let her lead the rest of the dance out.

I have also been asked by a couple if i would let them try to lead so that they can improve themselves.

Leads:
1) Nigel - makes you feel like a dancing queen and his musicality is fab!
2) Rob C - for the thrill of the unexpected and something just a little more challenging
3) Ryan Francois - just had to put him in cos I've had the pleasure of dancing with him twice and it was AMAZING both times
4) Rob D - a new favourite because of the blushing incident plus excellent lead of course!
5) Viktor - what a lovely gentle lead he has - could just melt!
6) Amir - gentle lead and amazing musicality
7) Under Par - because he is tall enough to attempt drops etc with me!
8) Spin Dr - because it is like putting on your slippers - comfortable and familiar
9) DJ (friend of Adam and Taz - known for wearing just dungarees at Beach Boogie) - bags of fun, great musicality and eye candy all rolled into 1!
10) Almost an Angel - for just a little more musicality than most manage

Am a happy lady if I can get a dance with any of these people ...

Follows:
Am a rubbish lead so not many girls want to dance with me :(! Mod Chick often puts up with me leading and follows beautifully :)

Amanda (non forumite in Ipswich awesome dancer)
DoubleTrouble (I could dance with you all night)
Fletch (I struggled to keep up with you, but you certainly made it fun)
Georgious dancer (only 1 dance at Bliss, but wow)
Kerry (Teacher at CerocFusion, lovely mover)
SnowWhite (so smooth and graceful)
Taz (forgiving and playful!)
Tessalicious (only 1 dance at Bliss, but wow)

Twirly (you make it easy to lead)

Phew, that was surprisingly difficult to do.

I have thought a lot about posting to this thread. I think most of the people I am going to name are non-forumites, and I haven't danced with most of them for ages.
Leads in no particular order
*Rob Cotteril (took me to my very first dance night)
*Will Tandy
*Mark Flemming (learnt more from him than almost any other lead)
*I think his name was Dave, he worked for McClaren in Woking and danced with Jivebug and taught me loads.
*Vejay
*Tony who taxis at Lemmington Spa and for a while came to Leicester on a regular basis but hasn't been for ages.
*Trousers
*another Tony
*Frank
*Dave Cooper

Followers I admire

 Can't do alphabetical, just those that I know the names of - or can describe :D for somebody to recognise who it is! Some from recent Bliss, some from around Norfolk. The list is:

Paul Harris - they don't call him Mr Smooth for nothing
Paul Farrell - very approachable and friendly, sexy as hell, lovely style
Small funky guy (usually with a braid or ponytail - can never remember his name - sorry!!!!!!!! Dances as a follower with other male leaders or a double trouble at weekenders) - smooth and funky at the same time, a wonderful leader, and always - always!!!! :nice: smiling
Steve from Bliss - fab!!! :respect: smooth, easy to follow, and lovely to show off with!
Chris from Norwich - really puts me through my paces but also gives me the confidence that I can do what he wants me to do!
Nick from Norwich/Ipswich - very friendly, isn't afraid of explaining & practicing a new/difficult move right there, lovely dances every time
Jonathan from Bliss - funky style, took a bit getting used to, but gave me lots of room to improvise and span my socks off!
Andy from Footloose - love his footwork, effortless style, cheeky smile, boundless enthusiasm
Philip from Bliss - very smooth :) and followeable
Sam from Bliss - never fails in showing how much pure joy the dance is giving him :D, lovely fast dancer:angry: It's hard to narrow it to 10 only!!!!!! Can I put just one tinsy-winsy bit of extra?

:waycool: Anyone that can get away with wearing a hat - every single one of "hatties" I danced with were fab leaders!!!

4 of my top ten would remain, but since then I've danced with so many more people, and discovered what a natural connection feels like.
Not to mention that there's people on my original list that I haven't seen for almost a year so it would be difficult to compare them now. In fact, I think the 6 that I'd drop from the list are all because I've hardly danced with them since doing the list.
