It does sound good, it's gotten some nice comments about it. Depends where your friend is based of course, as to how convenient any location is; it being Darn Sarf, I've never been.

Finchley's closed next Monday, so I definitely wouldn't go there :)

Oops - ESG's just said that.

Plus, I crippled the teacher last night. But we won't talk about that...

On a similar note, I imagine Ashtons on Wednesday week will be a vast gaping hole of emptiness...

The grand is younger and packed and pulls in lots of new people. They have a dedicated DJ.

Twickenham is also very good (taught by Val & Dave) but a slightly older crowd and more regulars. Dave does the demoing & the DJing.

Both have very good taxi dancers.

I don't like the dance floor at the grand, and i would personally go to Twickenham due to it's location to me.

Actually yer, i'd do Jango in Hammersmith

Why ????
Yom Kippur.

That must be nice, my local one's a real slacker.

Yom Kippur.
I only know one person who's Jewish who goes there, and all the Jewish people I know eat Bacon, and dance on a Friday.

If you've got a reasonably modern web-browser then you could try the new and exciting zoomable worldwide modern jive map (http://www.afterfive.co.uk/maps/Jive-links.html).

Or the wcs map (http://www.afterfive.co.uk/maps/WestCoastSwing-links.html), the lindy map (http://www.afterfive.co.uk/maps/Lindy-links.html), the salsa map (http://www.afterfive.co.uk/maps/Salsa-links.html), the tango map (http://www.afterfive.co.uk/maps/Tango-links.html), etc.

Did I mention I was getting bored not dancing :)

They can cram about 150 into the grand, i feel it is too much for a nice spacious dance. A lot are beginners but they do disappear later in the evening. No Joe Public allowed. Yes it's a great location, just a shame the lighting effects make me feel see sick when i dance. :tears:

Yes 25s-35s is the average, Clapham has a younger catchment then other venues.

No, and I don't think I've ever seen you there on a Wednesday, so don't see how you could argue with me on that one.

No, and I don't think I've ever seen you there on a Wednesday, so don't see how you could argue with me on that one. You're right, I haven't been on Wednesday in the last three years. It might have changed hugely. It will be interesting to see what numbers are like on Wednesday week.

Well, it's true Cricklewood isn't Finchley, and I haven't been there for a while myself, but I think you're slightly underestimating the number there... I'd imagine that it's at least in the dozens. You could always ask Jo :)

I don't think they'd close Finchley if they thought there'd be many people there on Monday, and I understand (anyone wanna comment?) that Yom Kippur is as important as New Year in the calendar - these are two big dates.

But at least we have the consolation that some people won't be endangering their souls by dancing next Monday...

Yom Kippur is as important as New Year in the calendar - these are two big dates.Much more important, in fact. Yom Kippur is the only holy day that takes precedence over the Sabbath.

To be honest, from a Jewish observance point of view, paying money on a Friday night (to go to a dance) is just about the worst thing you could do; doing it on the New Year isn't any worse.

OK, anyway, if it were me on Monday, I'd go to the Grand.

(Jango sounding too intimidating  )

Letchworth is on a Monday and only 30 mins up the A1M from North London - further in distance, but possibly not in travel time? :)

Good point, i forgot that, yer i tend to go up on the stage during freesytle, to get off that stupid ice rink. I go ice skating and am good at it, but it's no good while dancing, but at least you don't get wet if you fall over.

Of course, if you like I could help explain how to add a map to *your event page* :)

As it happens, Ashtons last night was pretty dreadful, but not due to lack of people, it was as packed as ever, however, the music was dire!

Yes the floor is quite slippery, where the coloured flashing lights are but then again there is always the concrete floor on the sides and the wooden floor at the end to make spinning even more challenging!

I was actually distracted from my dancing by the black, gold and fuschia pink interior and the leapord skin covered doors!

The delights of the Grand really have to be experienced at least once in a lifetime.
