View Full Version : I can't decide...

Here's my thinking:

This Saturday:
- Daventry: looong way away, plus Evil Competition thing and weird dress code. But, goes on late, lots of lovely people going, and chance to try out new TomTom boytoy thing...
- Twyford: not too far, but has another flippin' competition, and dunno what it'll be like
- Guinness: well, it's close...

Help me choose...

This Saturday I'm going dancing in Totton, near Southampton. I've never been there before so I've no idea what it's like - and that's the attraction. I will be an adventure. Anyone else fancy the trip? I don't think there's a competition

OK, serious one first:

David, howmany times since I moved up here have I travelled down to catch up with you guys at Ashtons et al? LONG WAY????

Yeah, but, you know, just because one person has to travel a long way regularly, why I should I? I'm an instant-gratification kind of guy, don't like queues and waiting. I live in London (and believe me I pay a lot of money for doing so), so why shouldn't I take advantage of the benefit that at least I can get to lots of dance venues quickly here?

No doubt, you have a lot of great quality-of-life issues outside a city - a better environment, more friendly community, cheaper housing, clean air and so on (or, in some cases, the ability to wear transparent clothing whilst sailing :) ). But the flipside, of course, is that you have less access to facilities. So long drives are part of the price you pay, in the same way that occasional asthma is part of my price for living in a big city. I don't like it, but I accept it.

I believe we do have at least some element of choice in where and how we live, and we make choices based on what we believe is important to us at a particular time. So let's all respect those choices. And learn to live together in perfect harmony - oops, Diet Coke time, serious mode OFF.

The Funny Ones:

David, I have to opt for the option of get a life and decide for yourself.!!!
Well, I'll follow your instructions then, and be independent, and decide for myself. Oh, hold on, there's a flaw in that argument somewhere....

You will have a good night, i always enjoy Twyford, nice floor lovely people. But i am still going to Daventry as about 3 times as many dancers, and the venue is about 5 times the size of twyford. Plus i can go to Twyford any month (am going in August) whereas Daventry only has 4 big dances a year.

David James you really should be able to make your own mind up, but we would love to see you at Daventry where you will have a willing line up of beautiful women. :flower: Is that enough bribary or do you need more?

You will have a good night, i always enjoy Twyford, nice floor lovely people. But i am still going to Daventry as about 3 times as many dancers,:IMHO there is a dancer number horizon. Once you've crossed that you've just got traffic. If there are enough partners* for you at a night you don't need crowds, you need the space to dance and nice music to dance to :flower:

*"enough partners" is a variable taking into account the quality of partners, their availability and their willingness to dance with you. Sometimes "enough" could be one.

Apart from that Shane and I had a fab night dancing in Southampton. Most of the women were really friendly (Shane even had a 'phone number pressed into his hand!), very nicely dressed and up for a laugh. Dancing outside your usual area means you get a completely different mix of music. This time there was far more Ibiza mix club-type music and more pop - really rather nice once in a while but some of it sounded like the backing music to a fight scene so I wouln't want to hear it everywhere I went.

I don't think many Forumites come from this area and feel that a Forumites Safari/Mission to MoJive might be a bit of fun. They even offer generous group discounts! There's not much on over the summer in our area but MoJive seem to have an event every Saturday.

Do you think it's a MoJive thing, a "provincial" thing, or a beige thing?I didn't take it too personally. I've been turned down at MoJive when I was wearing black and think it's probably a local thing. One of my female friends moved to Bournemouth a while ago and although she's a fab dancer she also got turned down at MoJive dances. I get the impression that the speed-dating element of MJ is a bit more evident at MoJive than at most classes - and I'm probably not considered suitable dating material. The dancers were fab, the music was wonderful, the teacher was gr8, and the demo was so elegant dancing in her hat. :waycool: (I think she took it off to dance with the masses, in case she lost it – didn't stop her losing her belt though! :D Can someone teach me that move?)

Only been one downside – I'm in total agony today. :tears: Can someone pass me more pain-killers?
Here you are. *Passes Ducasi pain-killers* :)

Will agree that party was fabby last night, just a little warm in that Sauna they call a hall  I'm also glad that you didn't cause any major injury to your partner for the ariels class :D Shall take a look at your blog l8r!

I think she took it off to dance with the masses, in case she lost it
I did start dancing with it on - but I just got so hot that it had to go

– didn't stop her losing her belt though! :D Can someone teach me that move?
Cripes - I thought that had escaped notice, just as well my skirt wasn't attached to it

Thanks for the dance - loved the shirt!

I did start dancing with it on - but I just got so hot that it had to go  It was so unbelievably hot in there! I'm told it's always unnecessarily hot – even in winter???

Thanks for the dance - loved the shirt! Thank you! You should have seen the back-up shirt though... :really:

I think I might wear it on Tuesday... Bring your sunglasses guys! :waycool:

Nah, not at the last freestyle anyway. However, the smokers were considerate enough to smoke in the far corner from the bar and dancefloor :)

Of course, that's where everyone queues up for coffee later :(

SpinDr.

Twyford is now no smoking :flower:

Totton is my regular fortnightly freestyle.
It's not a beige thing :)

I didn't take it too personally. At least not by some of the women :innocent:

Maybe we should have a Forumites Beige Night out at a MoJive dance
