There are lots of rumours flying around about the imminent demise of this dance night. Seeing as I'm a muppet who never gets any inside information about anything, would someone better connected than I please tell me what's going on?

At the very least, if I'm about to get my Tuesday evenings back I'd like a little advance notice.

Thanks

WHAT!!!!!!! What rumours have you heard? Don't say Hannes and Amy have got bored with us already! Or is it just not economically viable at Ashtons? In which case let's find somewhere that would be viable.

Or maybe I should concentrate more on the WCS

I've heard nothing, but I'm even more in the dark on these things than you I suspect. The website seems to have its normal set of future programmes as usual...

With the "decline" of Hipsters, I'd imagine nosequins may even have a boost. So it'd be strange to close it down now.

What have the numbers been like recently then?

Certainly NOT the impression I got from Mr Elard last time I spoke to him, and numbers were up again this week!!!

It would indeed be a pity to draw conclusions about the profitability or otherwise of a dance night after only three or four months, and in any case numbers have been (from the punter's point of view) good. Certainly I think the quality of the classes has been excellent. But there are lots of reasons why a venue might close or move and not all of them have to do with attendance levels. I'm not interested in gossip, I was hoping that someone who actually knows what if anything is going on - or who can say categorically that nothing's going on - would be able to help.

All silent on that front so far.

I just got a free entry email from Nosequins, had one last week as well but didn't go. What are the numbers like now? And do the classes ever run as per the programme? It says Improvers runs from 8.15-9, but last time I went, the classes didn't finish til almost 10!

tends to be beginners 7.45 to 8.30 ish, 10 mins break, then improvers 8.45 to 9.30 / 45 ish - tricky cramming in beginner ballroom, beg latin, improver ballroom, improver latin, but it does work, as most punters haven't that much experience IMHO I think on ave people gain more by more class less freestyle. I come with a lot of experience (relatively) and I love the amount of class v freestyle.

I got one this week also. I'm quite interested that it mentions giving an opportunity to get to grips with Foxtrot which sort of implies the Foxtrot hasn't yet been taught at NoSequins.

The web site doesn't say whether it is the slow or 'social' ? foxtrot being taught though.

Has been taught, the social not the slow, although they teach lovely style

There seem to be a LOT of RUMOURS flying around about lots of things (no difference there then), as well as whether or not you get your Tuesday nights back.

If it adds any confidence to your suspisions....... I've NOT been told I will NOT be needed in future weeks.

Take from that what you will.

As far as numbers are concerned..........................

A couple of weeks ago the numbers were down... straight after a grouling weekend of dance, but last week the evening started out with AT LEAST 3 ladies to each guy (Heaven :D ), but by the time the first lesson was under way there were more or less even numbers, and lots of smiling faces as the paces were set by Hannes and Amy.

I'm sure that if there was any news either way it would have been out by now.

How long do you have to be associated with Ceroc to learn that Rumours are exactly what they are..... RUMOURS.

Until you see it in writing DON'T believe what outsiders might lead you to believe.

Yesterday I had a call ..... "Bob....... Is the HMS President on today as I've heard a rumour it's been cancelled"
It was on, and from what I've heard it was brilliant...as usual.

Hope to see all of you Ballroomites at Ashtons tomorrow.

Sorry, I should have said "most out of character line in a post".

"Not interested in gossip"

Why are you here? :confused:Do you mean, 'Why did you start this thread?' ? I started the thread because I was hoping that Mike or Linda would be able to say "There are currently no plans to close this weekly event" or alternatively "this event will be closing in x weeks time". My universe is fragile, and SNS is one of the rocks on which it's founded. That's why I thought it worth asking.

There are plenty of rumours floating about (like the ones about the non-existence of Andy McGregor, for example) whose accuracy *isn't* going to stop me sleeping. So I don't feel the need to ask about those.

Errrrm ... I think you missed the joke ESG ....

I made my long-awaited return to nosequins tonight. Ok, the numbers were down from the hordes of the first few weeks, and worryingly there seemd to be a fair stack of "get-in-free" papers from punters like me. But it was a healthy turn-out (let's hope economic when people pay), and one had space to practice. There are some really good dancers there, too few men of course, but it's a whole new dimension of dance for me and I will try to go as often as I can. :flower:

Errrrm ... I think you missed the joke ESG .... :whistle:If it was one of Andy's then that would be par for the course.

There were around 80-100 people tonight - any more and the floor gets too crowded during the classes. Clive, you even looked like you were enjoying yourself...

Hi all

Sorry not had time to look at forum lately.

SNS is a major success. The numbers are good, and we are pleased with the response. The wonderful Hannes and Amy have just been offered a lifetime opportunity to perform imminently in a West End show for a period of time. (I guess this is the rumour!) and if anyone has seen them showcase you'll understand why - they are breathtaking.

We will keep in touch with everyone all by email re what's going to happen

I am told this is the show in question:

http://www.qdosentertainment.co.uk/productions/sbd/default.htm

running September-November, with rehearsals beginning mid-August. It also has a ballroom/latin competition for pre-auditioned members of the public in the middle of it, if you want to enter details are here:

http://www.qdosentertainment.co.uk/productions/sbd/sbdauditions.htm

Looking forward to hearing what arrangements Mike and Linda make for teaching while Hannes and Amy are on tour - and who's up for a Forum/'Nosequins trip to see the show while it's at Wimbledon, (3-8 October)?

According to www.strictlynosequins.co.uk:

Classes will be temporarily suspended over the summer. Strictly No Sequins will relaunch again in the Autumn 2005.

So I guess we get our Tuesday nights back after all.

I had the impression it was pretty standard for classes to break over the summer. Though they don't need to 'relaunch' - just restart after the break.

Well, if you need to get your fix .... Finchley never closes !
and Carol is doing her latin classes on Mondays -20 minutes in the back hall after the intermediate class.

I heard today that poor old Hannes has broken his leg in a motorcycle accident while on holiday (in Italy). Here's hoping it mends very soon. I gather he will still be appearing in the new show later in the year.

Isn't that what they ask you to do when starting a new show

If you want to send a "get well soon" message to Hannes, he can be contacted via his & Amy's Web site
