Too late. i want a CD and I want it NOW :)

Forgot to mention 'Saga of the exiles' by Julian May as one of my favourite books (even though its a series) - its hard to think of these things under pressure isnt it :)

Gadget: 'unusual' to you may well be bizzare to the rest of us - so we need more information to judge :).

Moulin Rouge - love it or hate it, theres a topic in itself :)

Can we add a Favourite Paintings section as Im now the proud owner of an EMMA 'little miss cheeky' original :)

You cant tell much about people by asking questions like that - too General, Gus should randomly select someone to do a proper interview with (someone more interesting than me i mean - like Sheena :) ). How about it Gus.

Hmmm. Everyone keeps reminding me of favourite books that I forgot about.

The Thomas Covenant series definitely deserves a mention. Any book that takes a leper and rapist, and turns him into the hero has got to be worth a read.

As do the Julian May books. I first read the pre-cursor to the Galactic Milieu saga (The Three Coloured Land) while at high school, and have avidly bought every book she's written since.

And the girl I was with then climbed back into bed with her.... Perhaps not bizzare or unusual, but fun at the time.... those were the days.

Let me get this straight: There were bunk-beds, but the girl you had sex with preferred to share the top bunk with another girl rather than sleep in the lower bunk? Or maybe she just didn't want to share it with you??

I think it probably would depend on the circumstances Gus.

While 2/3 hours is probably (according to some folk) a reasonable length of time, it would have to be a damn slow lift to take that length of time to cover 10 floors!!

Wx To be honest ... one of the key reasons for running the thread was the near death story. AS Jayne said .. in 'down the pub ' nights I've heard mates talk about loads of horrific incidents where they literaly escaped with their lives. Me ... I've always put my many near misses down to crass stupidity, lack of balance and being far too trusting. I rekon the only reason I'm still here is that I've got good reflexes, good mates and that the Good Lord has got something pretty special for removing me from this planet. I reckon there are loads more good stories out there ... people tend to forget ... but I did like the thought of little Bill cycling up that road surrounded by heavy traffic.

The question on sex was, in hindsight, a bit distracting, but I hope that the thread has managed to put a more indepth view on your fellow Forum members....now how the heck are we going to get the likes of Rena or Erick to post their profiles????

Could be... but this is just a fragment from my tapestry - it sort of looses a bit taken out of context and the whole tale is a bit long winded. Perhaps I'll write a book some time; it would have to come under 'fiction' though: No-one would believe it as factual.

14. MOST BIZARRE PLACE HAD SEX (OPTIONAL)

"sex (optional)"????? You mean, as opposed to when one really wasn't up for it?????

Well, like Jayne I think this is NOT a matter to reveal to the worldwide readers of the Forum, as the other party involved might be out there on line somewhere - and anyway, the book & film rights have still to be decided.

Executive Orders - Tom Clancy

The worst I have seen was 'American Beauty'.

Favourite Dance Outfit
Baggy trousers and a dry shirt.

Port

Worst Hangover
About a year ago, after a Christmas Party at work, I staggered home quite late. The next morning I woke up with the pillow stuck to my face, and a headache that seemed to start on the outside of my head. I later found out I had tripped up going up the stairs, hit the banister with my nose, and pushed my glasses back almost into my eyes. I made a reasonable job of cleaning myself up, and even cleaning up the bathroom. However I forgot about the stairs.
The scary thing is I can't remember any of it!

Best Holiday
Driving from San Francisco to LA along the coast, and back through the National Parks

Favourite Game
Rugby

Childhood dream job
Soldier

Real Life Hero
A hero is someone who risks his life to save others. Anyone who does that gets my vote.

Oooh, I can't resist this thread - makes fascinating reading! Though my answers are probably more interesting to myself than anyone else. I could pretend to be Erick or Rena, if you like ...?
Rachel

1. Birthplace
Bath

2. 3 Favourite Books
Well, the following 3 have been my constant favourites for some years - the first one, particularly, is way above any other book in the history of time and I want to be buried with it.
1) Peter Carey: The Unusual Life of Tristan Smith
2) William McIlvanney: Docherty
3) Gabriel Garcia Marquez: Love in the Time of Cholera

3. 3 Favourite CDs
Favourite songs obviously change by the day, but if I could only have 3 CD's to listen to for the rest of my life, it would undoutably be these:
1) Jeff Buckley: Grace
2) Radiohead: OK Computer
3) Robbie Robertson and the Native Americans - fantastic music to work to, or to just shut yourself off from the rest of the world.
Oh, and please could I have a Bob Dylan in there too?? Just can't make up my mind which one ...

4. 3 Favourite Films
1) Jean de Floret (and sequel Manon des Sources) - though possibly the saddest films EVER
2) Like Water for Chocolate
3) ???? now I've got to my last choice, it's soooo hard.
I originally put The Cook, the Thief, his Wife and her Lover, which I think should probably stay at number 3.

But then I'm desperate to include Fitzcarraldo - just for the sheer determination and power of emotion in that film. And someone else's choice reminded me of The Usual Suspects - excellent film! And just the other day I saw Snatch for the first time which I loved - brilliantly funny!!!

And who mentioned Beautiful Mind? Have to agree there - immediately after seeing it, I didn't think it would be a favourite, but now I find that parts of the film keep seeping back into my mind and intriguing me. But, then, I think we're ALL just one tiny step away from 'madness' and I've never quite understood how the limits of insanity and normality are defined anyway!

Oh and I just HAVE to include Chitty Chitty Bang Bang. Especially as it's approaching Christmas - I've lost count how many times I've seen that film.

5. Most Hated Film
Ummm, hard one, though there are so many to choose from. I really dislike slushy films like Sleepless in Seatle, Truly Madly, Deeply, etc. Hate Dirty Dancy - or anything else with Patrick Swayze. Oh God, yes, just remembered - most hated film of all, ever, ever, no argument: 'Ghost' - URGHHHH!

6. Favourite Dance Outfit
I originally thought - as some others did - that this meant dance group, but many are answering with clothes ... Actually, I can't come up with favourites of either category right now - too many to choose from.

7. Favourite drink
Dry white wine (any cheap crap will do), or Spanish sherry, or gin. And espresso.

8. Worst Hangover
Really lucky and rarely suffer at all, no matter how much I've had to drink. Though I had 2 nasty experiences with Bacardi when younger and can't even look at a bottle of the stuff now.

9. Best Holiday
Any holiday - whenever, wherever ... they're all the best - I've had best holidays in Mexico, Borneo, Eastbourne, Weston-Super-Mare, ....

Probably bestest of all is my annual fortnigthly holiday at home over Christmas - doing absolutely nothing but reading, watching films, drinking, eating and sleeping. Brilliant!

10. Favourite Game
Got to be Scalextrix (but I can't spell it).

11. Childhood dream job
Air hostess, I'm afraid. And watch repairer - still have that dream, actually.

12. Real Life Hero
My father - we don't get on, but he's still my hero. He's the most incredible person in the world, for reasons I'd better not go into here - just trust me on this one.

And also my father's mother - for going out dancing every single night, even though she's almost 90.

And Bob Dylan. And, by no means least, Marc.

13. Closest Brush with Death:tears:
Nothing unusual really ... wrote off my car once by skidding, rolling over four times and landing upside down in a ditch - left hanging in the seat by the seatbelt, with my skirt hanging down around my head and faces from all the passing motorists peering in the windows. I was completely unhurt, though - apart from very bruised ego - so it wasn't really a brush with death. The worst thing about is was that it was a company car (good!) but I'd only had it a week and it was sooo embarrassing having to tell my boss!

Actually, I did think that I was near-enough dead when I'd just had my wisdom teeth out. When coming round from the anaesthetic, I do remember that my first thought was, 'what's the point of living any more ...'

But, then, I'm such a complete and utter wimp when it comes to hospitals, doctors, blood, needles, etc etc. In the operating theatre I kept trying to tell them that I'd changed my mind and I was just going to go home now, but they wouldn't listen and stuck the needle in anyway.

Anyway, I survived, and I'm sure you'll all be pleased to hear that I made a very successful recovery. In fact, you'd never be able to tell ...

14. Most Bizarre place had sex
Really couldn't say, or I'd be sacked....

Except my baths, of course. Love those - have to have at least 3 a day - boiling hot water, bubbles, rubber ducks, candles, book, wine, the lot!

What's really intriguing me, though I haven't got round to quoting it and asking her, is HOW Lou broke her arm and how she didn't realise it was broken before jumping out of an aeroplane??? Talk about being succinct and leaving us hanging on for more! Come to think of it, what the hell was she doing jumping out of an areoplane? Very brave girl ... and, probably, slightly mad!

It must be easy to do as my sister has done the exact same thing - broke her arm on the doorframe when jumping out airplane and didnt notice till after opening chute, she then landed 'like a sack of potatoes' making bystanders think she was a beginner (shes done nearly 200 jumps, cant see the attraction of jumping out of perfectly good ariplane myself :) )

errmmm..... well it's a bit embarrassing. I was learning to do freefall, and on my 4th jump I got a bit lost & ended up landing in a cornfield.:sorry The landing wasn't too bad , except I stepped forward & tripped on a furrow, and put my hand forward to save myself. I had to walk back to the dropzone & I thought the only thing hurt was my pride. So I had to repeat the level & jump again that day. Honestly, my wrist wasn't hurting at all - it was
only when I tried to use it to steer, I realised I couldn't do it properly and I had my instructor bellowing in my ear through the radio telling me to pull down on one side & I was yelling abuse back (of course he couldn't hear).... It only started to hurt that night down the pub & so the next day I decided not to jump again & made my way home. I still thought I'd only jarred it, though.
It's only when my Mum made me go down to casualty & have it x-rayed, did I realise that a bone was broken. And I was in plaster for 12 weeks in the nicest days of summer.

Groundhog Day...but also don't like scary movies as I'm a scardy cat! Was banned from watching them as a kid after "Jaws" traumatised me. I used to pelt down he stairs after flushing the toilet incase jaws came and got me. Mum then used to make me walk properly up and down the stairs until I learned to "walk like a lady!" I still haven't learned.

6. Favourite Dance Outfit
Depends on my mood but I love anything red.

7. Favourite drink
A nice chablis

8. Worst Hangover
My one and only VERY VERY bad never to be repeated experience was aged 25. I got very ill after two mexican "specials" which has lager, tequila, cider and lime. I was very happy on safari, dancing and singing (nothing unusual there) However, afterwards, I collapsed on getting out a taxi. I looked like a cartoon character who had no muscles -jelly girl. It was very embarrassing since this was not only in front of Mum and Dad and close family friends but also caught on their friends video camera! I brought up the iguana and donkey I'd eaten and was sick 7 times although I don't remember past the first time. Mum just showered/changed me put me to bed ....twice but I don't remember either time. Talk about gringey. The family have such a laugh at my expense!!!!!!! The video is banned if I ever have children. I have been trying to accidently tape over it with Emmerdale Farm ever since.

Guess who's entry for Wierdest Sex was

...hmmmm.... OK - one of the more 'unusual' was on the lower level of a bunk bed. When another girl was sleeping on the top bunk. This was in her room and parent's house. And the girl I was with then climbed back into bed with her.... Perhaps not bizzare or unusual, but fun at the time.... those were the days.

Worst hangover
This made me think back to my dim and distant memories....
Woke up in bed , not knowing how I had got there. Strange male type clothing on the floor, didn't want to turn over as didnt have a clue as to what had happened the night before!
Got out of bed rather tentatively and went downstairs to where dear old mummy was merrily preparing sunday lunch. Where was this mysterious "man" who had left his clothes on my bedroom floor and more to the point why wasn't mummy completely freaking out and skinning me? Trying to act "normal", whilst threatening to throw up at a moments notice, head killing me blah blah.
Phone rings , my "mate" who had accompanied me the night before who explained everything...she had taken me to her house on the way back to mine. Apparently I had being doing all sorts in the taxi on the way home, mooning out of the back window etc etc before I had finally parted company with my stomach contents all down my new clobber. She had changed me into some of her brothers clothes, the closest thing to hand then taken me home and put me to bed, even removing my contact lenses bless her!
Hence the strange clothes on my floor. When I finally breathed a sigh of relief I asked if there was anything else I should know about she casually replied something about very nearly being arrested for breaking into the bus station and trying to steal a double decker bus. Nuff said

4. Films – Blade runner; Les enfants du Paradis; Heimat

5. Worst Film – Footloose, Titanic, Pearl Harbour, Star Wars 1 The Phantom Menace, many many more…

8. Worst hangover – um, don’t really remember my hangovers, only other people’s…

9. Best holiday – two weeks in the Deep South – Chattanooga (swing); Nashville (country); Memphis (blues); and N’Awlins (jazz), an air conditioned car and money to spend… :waycool:

10. Favourite game – Botticelli

11. Childhood dream job – Fighter pilot ("I’m sorry son, not wearing those spectacles…")

12. Real life hero – difficult, but probably Stephen Hawking (even though he’s twice tried to run me down in his power chair…)

13. Near death experience – (1) triple barrel roll at 60mph into a fen ditch at midnight, and (2) slow strangulation due to Ludwig’s angina followed by emergency tracheostomy :tears: ruined my singing voice...

1. Birthplace

Portsmouth, on the day Thatcher was elected (yikes).

2. 3 Favourite Books

'Neverwhere' Neil Gaiman
'Year of the Griffin' Diana Wynne Jones
'Deep Secret' also Diana Wynne Jones

3. 3 Favourite CDs

'A Short Album About Love' The Divine Comedy
'Ben Folds Five' Ben Folds Five ('Underground' just sums up how I felt as a teenager perfectly- "I was never cool in school, I'm sure you don't remember me..."
'Tropical Brainstorm' Kirsty MacColl ('In These Shoes' is not the only fabulous song on this album. It's all class).

4. 3 Favourite Films

'Taxi'- not Taxi Driver, this is the very funny French original of the Queen Latifah vehicle which I spent a large chunk of last year hissing at promotional posters for.
'Amelie'- Always makes me feel happy.
'The Ladykillers'- I was raised on Ealing films and this is one of the best.

5. Most Hated Film

'Prospero's Books'- I resent a film you have to read about in critical journals before you're able to understand what the hell's going on with it.

6. Favourite Dance Outfit

Depends on whether it's a freestyle night or not. For ordinary classes, at the moment it's pedal-pushers and a sometimes-sparkly, sometimes-not top. For freestyle, I have to go with a sexy dress every time.

7. Favourite drink

Alcoholic: Sweet sweet beer.
Non-alcoholic: I have a hopeless fixation with Diet Coke.

8. Worst Hangover

They're all dreadful. There were a couple of times at university, though, where the worst bit wasn't the hangover, it was remembering what I'd done the night before (for example, throwing up down someone's stairs)

9. Best Holiday

Last year- going across the USA in a southern-semi-circle from New York to San Francisco via all kinds of fabulous national parks, a hot spring in Utah where we were told "you have to wear your swimsuits because this place is surrounded by Mormons", New Orleans, and Las Vegas. All in a bus which was basically a youth hostel on wheels- the whole thing converted into bunk beds at night. It was an utterly awesome trip. And seeing a parade of naked people on bikes in San Francisco is the kind of thing that stays with you.

10. Favourite Game

Board game: Articulate (because I'm good at it)
otherwise: The Film Quotes Game, and the Nun's Priests game if you're on holiday somewhere appropriate (10 points for spotting a Nun, 20 for a priest, 1000 for a group of Nuns playing poker and smoking cigars, and the Pope on a Moped is an automatic win...)

11. Childhood dream job

I wanted to be a writer. I still do.

12. Real Life Hero

Hmm... either my Mum or Simon Borland.

13. Closest Brush with Death

Not sure which to go with- taking the wrong route down a mountain in Souty Tyrol (thanks to my Dad's mapreading) and having to pretty much abseil sideways across a sheer rockface with no mountaineering experience is one possible. The other is going back to where a group of us were sleeping from where we'd had dinner in a school in India, being stopped and informed that the door we were about to go through had a snake behind it, and we'd have to run through. I had to be pushed by one person and pulled by another- never been so scared in my life. I hate snakes.

14. Most Bizarre place had sex

I shall take the fifth. Yes, even though I'm English.

Birthplace
Falkirk, Scotland

Fav. Books
Shibumi - can't remember the author. It was given to me not long before one of my first sexual encounters, by a girl with whom I later had a fantastic sexual encounter!!!

Also, anything that fills the space between my ears with a sense of adventure and tranquillity - that feeling of being in wild, wide open spaces.

Fav Films
Not much of a film buff but my most memorable viewing has to be ‘One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest’. Went to see it at Stirling university cinema. The place was packed with very serious psychology and psychiatry students. I seemed to be the only person with tears streaming from my eyes as I laughed uncontrollably. I hasten to add that, amidst the pain from my splitting sides, I did see the serious side.

Fav Music
Anything by The Moody Blues (especially their early stuff), Mike Oldfield, Pink Floyd, Eva Gardner, Mendelssohn (Hebrides Overture, fills the space between my ears)

Fav Dance Kit
Anything light, loose, stretchy and generally – unimaginatively – black or white.

Fav. Drink
Vary rarely overindulge now that I’ve lost my hair, but still enjoy an occasional medicinal Malt or 5

Worst Hangover
Jees, with the miss-spent youth I’ve had, where to begin!! I’ll spare you the ugly details.

Fav Holiday
Norway, Romsdal. 3 weeks of magnificent weather, magnificent mountains and magnificent climbing. Absolute bliss.

Hero
Don Whillans – a real rough diamond. Lived hard and played hard. Died of a heart attack on the walk up to one of his favourite climbs in the Lake District. Can’t think of a better way to say cheerio. Well I could, but it would involve a lot of malt whiskey and other ‘nice’ things that I couldn’t possibly post here.

Closest Brush with Death
I’ve fallen off more climbs than I care to remember, a Brush just doesn’t do it.

Most Bizarre Place had sex
You guessed, it was on a mountain, in a hanging belay on a beautiful balmy evening. And the peaks looked magnificent.

By the way, have I said I absolutely love dancing.

No, it is a fictional book after all. It has been a bit over-hyped.

Not answering for myself but the moment in "Confessions of a dangerous mind" where a woman being asked the same question looks at her husband nervously before answering "in the ass" made me laugh for a long, long time.

1. Birthplace

Newport.

2. 3 Favourite Books

I have so many I can't narrow it down to three! The Lord of the Rings and the Silmarillion feature highly, as do the Harry Potter books. So that's 10 favourite books.

3. 3 Favourite CDs

Not dance-related ones, I'm afraid. While I enjoy dancing to MJ-able tunes, my favourite music for just listening is generally quite different. So my current top three would be "Brave New World" by Iron Maiden, "The Eyes of Alice Cooper" by Alice Cooper and "The Stamping Ground" by Runrig.

4. 3 Favourite Films

The three Lord of the Rings films.

5. Most Hated Film

Star Wars episode 1: The Phantom Menace. I loved the original Star Wars films, but this one was really cr@p. Jar Jar Binks must die!!! The other two prequels weren't up to much either. Very disappointing.

6. Favourite Dance Outfit

I'm a MIB, I'm afraid.

7. Favourite drink

Guinness.

8. Worst Hangover

About 12 years ago, after a long night of drinking (at various times) red wine, sangria, mead, vodka, lager and cider. I was ill for three days, and it was a long time before I could even think about alcoholic drinks again without feeling queasy.

9. Best Holiday

Jerusalem in 2000, with an old college friend.

10. Favourite Game

Depends on what kind of game. If you mean a board game, then it's chess. If you mean computer game, Half Life 2 wins hands down.

11. Childhood dream job

Rock star. (To hear what my guitar playing sounds likethese days, click here (http://www.myspace.com/matthewscott) and listen to the track "Seven Days a Lifetime", or click here (http://www.cwmebwy.fsnet.co.uk/Overwrought.ram) to hear what I sounded like in my grunge phase back in the '90s.)

12. Real Life Hero

My parents.

13. Closest Brush with Death:tears:

Narrowly escaping being caught in the middle of a horrific 10-car pile-up on the Autobahn near Frankfurt about eight years ago. I saw horrible things that day which I will never forget. I just managed to swerve onto the hard shoulder to avoid hitting the car in front (visibility was nil due to a very low sun glaring off a wet road) and saw cars crashing and people being terribly injured and dying.

14. Most Bizarre place had sex

Ah, now that would be telling!

3? Does not compute :what:

4. 3 Favourite Films
Shawshank Redemption

Coffee!
Don't really drink alcohol, so very occasional drinks are varied

9. Best Holiday
Earthwatch (http://www.earthwatch.org/) project in Australia in 1999.

10. Favourite Game
Anything with a combination of luck (which I don't have) and strategy (which I can sometimes do quite well). If it enables me to be really Evil so much the better.

11. Childhood dream job
Didn't really have one, always too indecisive.

12. Real Life Hero
This is going to sound really sad... but my boss. He works really hard and contributes so much to charity without shouting about it like all the celebrities do.

13. Closest Brush with Death
Think I must lead a charmed life, because the nearest one I can think of was being in Kings Cross only 10 minutes before the bomb went off on 7 July - me and several tens of thousands of other people

14. Most Bizarre place had sex ( optional)

12. Real Life Hero.
George Devlin is the guy i mentioned in another thread. Every year he grows his white beard and goes around old peoples homes and schools spreading his Santa joy everywhere. He collects money for various charities at local supermarkets, and he's nearly 80  Come January he shaves off his beard and has a full body wax for Marie Curie. He used to donate this fee to his grandsons football team, but his daughter died from lung cancer aged just 39. He's a great guy and puts in 110% to all his charity work.

13. Closest brush with death
I've not had any so i'll go with one i saw earlier. When i was born.
I had the cord wrapped around my neck 3 times and was nearly strangled.

1. Birthplace
Edinburgh

2. 4 Favourite books
Enduring Love - Ian McEwan (I'm finding it difficult to find any author that measures up)
A Five Year Sentence - Bernice Rubens (kooky little story I think of often)
Silence - Shusaku Endo (would never have picked this up, was pushed into my hand)

Wes Montgomery - The Incredible Guitar of...?
Air - Moon Safari

(Fave vinyl: Tom Waits - Blue Valentine

Peter Gabriel - So)

4. 3 favourite Films
Flash Gordon, hands down winner
(the others I'm going for impact, and number of days later I'm still thinking)
Seven
Touching the Void

(The real leaning towards films with characters in tight shiny clothes isn't made clear there, or the penchant for 70s hammer horror but maybe I should keep those quiet anyway).

12. Real Life Hero.
David Attenborough (then Derren Brown)

13. Closest brush with death
The times I've had those *well it wouldn't take much to be dead here* moments have been on mountains. The crescent shaped ridge near the top of Ben Vorlich in the winter was a particular one that really gave me the heeby-jeebies as I slipped and slithered on hard packed icy snow beside a sheer drop.

14. Oops I lost that question during cut and paste! :innocent:

4. 3 Favourite Films

I do so very much enjoy games of all sorts. My favourite computer game is Final Fantasy VII though I play so many of them I could have a set of questions just on computer games.

I'm a fan of Mah-Jong (Four Winds) like Ducasi and I used to play lots of Go so I'd happily play him or anyone at that. I like little silly card and board games that you can buy. Interesting seeing these sort of common factors :D.

Ninja. Appeals to me less now though.

Strange that I'm about to share my answer to 14 but not this .
